Structure is important everywhere. been practicing Wing (Young) Chun and now Tai Chi Chuan and have to say that TCC is mostly structure, proper alignment of a whole body and relaxing (not collapsing). It is a hard and long way to understand it. Punches, kicks and other "tools" are then just the outcome of previous issues. Unfortunately most of the time people (instructors) are not teaching those basics.

How does opening your hand make the process easier? I agree it does. Just can't understand the reason why.
@myshadowkungfu2 жыл бұрын
With a clenched fist comes resistance. So it is slower.
@zyfryth2 жыл бұрын
In closed fist, your forearm muscles contort, which makes the energy distribution flow slower through the arm, that is to say it gets stuck in your arm, feeling more heavy and collapsing. Opening the palm extends the muscles stabilizing the flow of the kinetic energy and thus helping it to remain inside the structure, where ultimately you can absorb and transfer it to the legs, that can carry it with ease. In other words, the closed fists relies more on the arm, while the open palm allows for easier usage of the entire structure. That being said nothing is set and stone. One should always remember that open fingers are super dangerous, since the opponent can catch and lock them, or you might accidentally meet a fist and brake them... You can try to grab your hand with your other hand by the wrist and change open and closed fist on the grabbed hand and see the difference. I hope that helps. Forigve my bad english.

I take it a step further to demonstrate structure AND the importance of releasing tension. I resist a student’s force with just my index finger while standing on one leg. Then I will often send them backwards. Similarly, I will do chi sao against strong students with just my index fingers. To be clear, I would never fight with just my index fingers. The purpose is twofold: 1. Test the structural integrity of your stance; 2. To show students that Wing Chun is not based on muscle strength, which people inevitably default to Paradoxically, I often find it easier to resist someone’s force with just my index finger rather than my arm, because I’m less inclined to revert to brute strength when using my finger. Play around with it. Just don’t confuse it with Wing Chun can beat people with just their fingers. You’d be missing the point.

@@IzzoWingChun Hey Izzo, Just commenting at this stage. Hopefully my comment wasn't coming across critical of you. It was meant as an extension of what you were showing. I am keen to do Wing Chun videos. I know how I want to present the content, but Crohn's has meant I have had to put a lot of things on hold. I still teach and train, but it takes a lot out of me unfortunately.

My only thing with this that I don’t understand is.. this looks more like wrestling tactic than wing chun .. the cheung .. and you’ve said it yourself is way more important than our famous deflections.. but in a real fight.. there isn’t much leaning in on each other.. as you know, in boxing the ref will break it up.. in ufc you get grappled? In the street you get grabbed? I don’t think being so close without delivering pain and distraction is maybe not best? Think of hitting and recovering with your deflections.. the shapes only block and jam. The hits control by cues coming in to the opponent internally .. my only issue with this method.. it could be a structure that throws off a wrestler 🤼♀️ f you can stay detached though

@@Loyal2law no I agree.. I get his point totally.. I’m trying to get everyone, all of us who stop by, even him , to think, “Is this a smart way to bridge?” Is it the best way I mean?”
@JKDVIPER2 жыл бұрын
@@Loyal2law and the reason is.. that I’m advocating a longer bridge with the head back further .. and hitting after each contact or deflection, regardless of which one comes first.. so we wouldn’t wanna chase hands.. we would set up a hit.. if it fails, the deflection and body control like he’s showing us, comes into play suddenly.. just before grappling range (collar tie) range lets say
