What Mark has really solidified for me is that wing chun does not need to be rebuilt or changed - the training just needs to be re-prioritized. If you just want to learn the art verbatim, that's fine. Enjoy it! But if you want to be able to fight, you have to let go of ideas like tan da and bong lap in the real-world context. Those things can work, but not like you would learn in a strictly classical sense. I have spent over a decade training wing chun and several years in MMA, so I'm not just blowin' smoke.

Agreed. The concepts lead to strategy that leads to tactics. That's all that matters. It's not a style, but a way of thinking, a strategy for fighting. Of course this is only my opinion. Hope you are well Dave.

. wow, it's amazing to see the similarity between wing chun and Xing yi (which I practice). The cover and punch to the liver is basically 'Pao quan' (fire fist), but the difference is the structure you mentioned is the same but alot of force is made through that punch by pushing with the leg and 'opening' the chest rapidly so the arms are almost shot forward - to add to that the arm of the attacker is pulled towards you as you 'explode your hit into them. - also the moving of the centre is basically 'dragon body' in Xing yi

Blocking a right cross with a turning right wusao is really hard along with stepping off line fast enough to put it up Also, the pak ton switch off and pak ton lop costs a few beats, theoretically, you could just pak turning right cross the liver. Like the video, like the head cover just a few things thought I'd point out.

In my opinion that technique can be counter meassured with a hook, the stance and guards were pretty open to the sides, against frontal blow the defense seems solid but a good hook might do the work.

I notice you're using the upward tilt vertical fist bottom three knuckle landing a la Bruce Lee and Jack Dempsey. Nowadays, people are starting to use the downward tilted wrist top two knuckle configurational fist structure in their punching method as advocated by one of your fellow left side of the road drivers, Karl Eastwood. Hey, I'm not knocking either method. I'm saying be eclectic in a dogmatic philosophically entrenched static and fragmented ideological society. If your fist is traveling in approach to target mass on a downward vector trajectory use the top relatively larger two knuckle landing. If you're punching along an upward trajectory use the bottom knuckles of the three knuckle landing method in the tradition of the late Lee and Dempsey along with the school's more recent modern exponent, Teri Tom. Also not to detract from driving on the left ✋ side. I went to Trinidad and Tobago one time for vacation and with a rental car chickened out after driving a short while and brought the car right back to the car rental place. No way was I going to drive on the wrong side of the road from my perspective in a nation where driving fast and road racing were integral parts of the Island Nation's culture. Please excuse my being a little wordy. May have had a few too many bottles of Stella Atois.

It should be unison but it is not the case for you, because you need to relax your shoulder muscles to fully transfer the weight from the ground to the target. Even if you lift them just a little, like you do (your left shoulder is more prominent) it would only work if you use arm strength. Now I know this is talking into the wind because your structure is not Wing Chun, in fact I'd say your structure is completely dependent on you being taller than everyone else, because you lack the basic requirements for structure to be what it is supposed to be. Straight back, knees pointing in direction of toes (attacking side pointing at target when shifting), unlocked hips, heel-to-hip connection (you don't have that at all, it's how you transfer punches from your heels). You can see that especially when you shift but actually instead of transferring the pulling side action to your center of weight you just push or pull to the side. This is pure muscle strength (you don't lack that), but there is no art in it and it's not the efficiency wing chun is known for. It is not known for all these rules because apparently not even you know them or apply them if you know about them.
@mattevans9236 жыл бұрын
Wing Chun is for the street not for mma cage fighting, that's why Wing Chun practitioners are so rare in the ufc etc, however it's the best discipline for general self defense !
@zachfleming52976 жыл бұрын
Sniff a lot of glue today?
@BlueFang7146 жыл бұрын
I think the more common reason why it's not in things like UFC (it is in MMA, people use whatever they want there) is because a lot of people who practice either A, aren't interested, or B, don't have basic understanding of the system that actually make it work. The demonstration here shows constant reangling and pivoting for power, but almost every video you see of someone trying to use it is someone running in a straight line from 5 feet away already starting an arm only chain punch. There's too much focus on things like static posture, not enough focus on power generation, positioning, and footwork.
