This lady is doing backyard barbeques while Ariana Grande has ELEVEN of the top forty pop chart positions, including the top three - equaling the Beatles. I'm not sure if that means we're living in end times or in the idiocracy because those positions are backward. This lady is simply an incredible talent and should be a household name, a freakin' icon. Nice analysis too.

Mike Whitfield, you nailed it. Instead of allowing are appreciation for music lead us, we allow commercialization to lead us into a talentless brick wall. Ariana Grande🙄 Today’s Beatles ~ Ariana Grande We should be ashamed of ourselves! We don’t even deserve ears. Ariana Grande couldn’t clean the treads of George Harrison’s boots. I’ve heard traffic accidents that sound better than Ariana Grande. As for this lady Fil posted playing slide blues...Outstanding!!!

Joanna is a Chicago treasure. I have seen her for 30 years having put countless hours to the wee hours of the morning in the Chicago blues clubs most particularly at Kingston Mines. Many of the great Chicago players have now passed (save Buddy Guy) but Joanna carries the torch in a most legit way and she deserves to be recognized. Incidentally, Joanna has lost a great deal of the weight you see her in this video and she is a fine looking woman. The real deal friends.

Gotta comment on her character. She headlined a festival that I backlined and stage managed. A fifteen year old student of mine who was very advanced was there as a stage hand. She practically adopted him and was incredibly encouraging. Utterly gracious with our crew and played a killer show for about five thousand lucky people. Glad to see her re-emerging. Thanks Fil!

Lol. Late again. I've been watching Joanna for a lot of years and she can really get with it. I think the BIG music labels have not backed her because she don't fit the stereotype babydoll perfect ten. Personally I enjoy her slide playing and in my opinion a great blues voice. She also has a good backing band that helps bring out her strong leads. Good show Fil!

Joanna Connor, an extraordinary blues guitarist and singer, remains criminally underrated and largely unknown in today's music world. Her immense talent has captivated audiences for decades, yet she remains hidden in the shadows. Joanna's unparalleled skills on the guitar, combined with her soulful and powerful voice, create a mesmerizing musical experience. Her ability to effortlessly blend traditional blues with a modern twist is truly remarkable, yet her name remains unrecognized by many. It is a shame that such an exceptional artist has not received the recognition she deserves. Joanna Connor's music deserves to be heard by a wider audience, as she represents the true essence of the blues.

I cannot believe YOU have done an analysis of Joanna Connor. This is my absolute favorite video of her doing Walking Blues. She is beyond cool. I mean, the whole band! So excited to find this. I've been watching this particular video for years. I see you nodding your head with the music. She has learned from a nd played with the best and really is pretty well known in Chicago. PS, she's doing this backyard bbq as a favor to the guy who owns the house where the band is playing. I think he's a local club owner and he asked them to come play, so she said yes. Somebody said, "That's like having Van Halen come play for your birthday party!" I think she's played at Clapton's Crossroads and the NO Jazz Fest. She's an unsung star for sure.

I was lucky enough to see her in the 1990s when she was touring. She was one of my favorite live blues performers at the time. She is well-known in the blues world, but as you said, dreadfully overlooked in general. Just watched a video from this year's Chicago Blues Festival. She's lost some weight. There's an awesome bass solo and organ solo in the video too. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJTVm5KHpLOriMk

I saw her at Poland's biggest blues festival in 1994. She was fabulous back then and she surely still is. A living blues history! Thanks a lot for the video and your analysis.

Thanks for featuring her. Your comments about her talent were spot on - it's about the music. Imagine if someone had never recorded Mama Cass because she didn't look like someone's stereotype of a female singer? You continue to do do great justice to all the artists you feature.

Another Wonderful analysis Fil, I don't play any guitar (does air guitar count, lol) but I so enjoy your commentary. Your channel has brought a lot of artists to my attention that I otherwise would have missed... \m/

I could hear the intro time and again, if I didn't know better I would have guessed it was Johnny Winter playing. Music is an art but for the labels it's an art to be exploited to make money and If the fickle finger of fate doesn't touch you you can forget about fame and fortune. Your analysis is spot on.

You nailed it. Who cares what someone looks like, close your eyes and listen to that music. Joanna is an incredible musician. And I agree, there are thousands of immensly talented musicians out there for every one that got that break. My little brother picked a guitar for the first time at 16. Within 6 months he was shredding solos to songs he'd never heard before. Absolutely phenomenal, but never got heard by the right person at the right time and still pounds nails for a living. Thx for giving Joanna a spotlight, keep up the good work.

Her meaty guitar tone mixed with her loose slide work is so enjoyable. A player like that could give a band like Greta Van Fleet some real charisma.
