Yeah, as the commentor in the vid points out really well, the subtle chord fill ins, with the lead riffs making for a fuller sound, and the clean yet full style in the guitar playing is, heh... very good. The singer, out of this world... The drummer, wow. I like this video commentary, because it really is a good, intelligent analysis of what these guys are doing, both technical enough for us musicians to enjoy, but clear and simple enough for non-musicians to appreciate. One of my biggest complaints regarding bands is the "sound like" complaint. Even Elvis was accused of ripping off acts as was Led Zep (listen to a little Muddy Waters). I'm 64 years old and love this "Classic" Vibe music, Oh, The guitar player play's a real $30,000 1961 Gibson SG/Les Paul standard guitar, They're a big ticket guitar, Most guitar players keep switching around guitars on every other song, Not this guy. Outstanding !! :)

I’m 51 so I grew up in the 80s but I listened to music like, the Stones, Earth Wind And Fire, Bee Gees, The Doors, etc. And I fell in love with the 90s music after that for me, music took a downward spiral it’s good to hear a REAL rock band these days.

If you're going to steal everything from literally one band, at least have the decency to be a cover band. I mean, at least fantasy authors all admit everything they do is from Tolkien, but at least they try to make it their own. GVF won't even do that. I'll just stick to listening to the old bands that actually had SOME originality.

Phil I went see them in New Orleans on 12/20/2019 and take it from someone who saw Led Zep once and Robert Plant & Jimmy Page twice they are not copying Led Zep. The energy in a sold out auditorium was through the roof. Age range was from 8 to 88 it seemed and everyone sang along which was not the case seeing the before mentioned. My brother had reservations about going but after they were done I said lets go and he said no wait they should have an encore. He was sold hook line and sinker on this band. Their performance was flawless as well. They rocked a rather large house. I also think this is their best gig and should package it as a live album.

Rock has been around since the 1950's. There are a ton of talented Musicians and singers around here always has been. Problem has been bands had to go to Motown (Detroit) to break into the bigger circuit's. This area has great musical traditions. Stevie WONDER, Madonna, ? mark & the Mysterians, Grand Funk Railroad, Bob Seger (From Ann Arbor)about a 100 miles from Frankenmuth&Saginaw and many ,many more fine bands. I am 68 and have been playing and singing Rock since I was 14. Yup I'm an old guy. But I still rock, Have played all over the U.S. with many bands. I just hope the people give these guys a chance because they are the real things . We are proud of them. Rock ain't dead here in MI. I hope it is still strong in the British Isles and all of Europe. I mean they are the hottest band on the planet sure they cant play after the foo fighters or guns and roses or Alice in chains but they will be headlining festivals if nothing freakish happens. Theres a trio of sisters in Monterrey called the Warning. That is a very young band with a similar genre but a little more modern but still nothing fancy with a 16 year old drummer that you will be hearing about Paulina Villareal. But Greta is leading the pack of new generation of rock that i hope will carry the torch and give all this hip hop some competition. Theres royal blood ,rival sons . That are older but trying to keep rock alive . So we need to support all young rock bands with a classic rock genre with a splash of the 21st century blood.

Are there any unreleased tracks coming out? Then what's wrong with new material that sounds like it? It's like finding the lost albums no one heard. And correct me if I'm wrong, it seems like page and the boys borrowed and sounded a lot like other people when they first started too. Having been to the wkqx sound lounge a few times, I must say, they’re killing it for the tiny room they’re in. It’s a room off of the wkqx break-room/lunch room in the NBC building in Chicago. No security really, just radio staff. If you notice the people sitting in chairs, they have since changed it to small couches for a more intimate experience. Sound lounge performances are put on for local folks who win a chance to see and meet their favorite bands for free via a text to win system. They pretty much ask each band to play three songs, answer questions for the crowd or tell stories in between each song, and then take pictures with each guest. It’s a pretty awesome experience. Usually the band is playing this show around 11am, and usually putting on a show somewhere in the city later that evening, and wkqx often give tickets to the winners to see the evening show as well. Just an insight as to why no one was on their feet! Believe me, Chicago loves Greta Van Fleet. If it wasn’t for the decorum of a business building at 11am, I think everyone in that room would have been going nuts.

And many seem to forget "you know who" also stole/borrowed/ripped riffs and lyrics from other bands as well. It's funny how so many people use ( the band we won't mention ) stealing other people's stuff as a justification for these guy's doing it. And there's a big difference between covering a song in your own style and and making up your own songs but stealing someone else's style.

But how many styles can there be in music? You can't expect every single artist to have an original sound. It's impossible. Trends in music come and go. Thank god it sounds like real rock n roll is heading back our way, so there will be a lot of bands who sound like their influences. Every band in the 60s was influenced by musicians who came before them.

Well damn said. Not convinced that GVF is "refreshing" in any way

Brad Tomlin It’s funny how so many people use ( the band we won’t mention ) sound as a way to justify not liking this band. Also claiming there a cheap cover. So are we saying that sounding like Robert Plant or achieving a guitar tone similar to Jimmy Paige’s is easy and doesn’t require talent? You’re delusional if you think that and these kids are making it big becoming something people can look forward too. They’ll evolve they’ll change what the fuck does it matter if they sound like a good band? They write their own songs and music and they are just getting started.

Never said I didn't like them. Also never understood trying to sound like someone else or getting so n so's guitar tone. I intentionally didn't learn other people's solo's, riff's or whatever so I would develop my own sound. I also said it's great they're at least playing rock n roll with actual instruments and not this regurgitated canned music with a stage full of people jumping around that's been copied over n over for how long now? But achieving Page's tone is quite easy, but does require some talent. I think one reason they are making it is because they do sound so much like a popular band and is making it available to kids who have not had the exposure to or have grown up with Zepplin. I have to be honest, Zepplin was never one of my favorites. Them and the Stones were two of the worst bands I ever saw live. Both of them are much better now.

When you bought a record, getting home and going through the motions of putting it on the stereo for the first time was an event … you don't get that anymore :(

So glad to see you comment on Greta Van Fleet. I have only just discovered them. I am a big Zeppelin fan and saw a post about a comment Plant made. Sure there are some similarities, but they are still individual. Not a copy or tribute band. These are brilliant. It has been years and years since a band gave me this excitement. Wow 😮 incredible. Pure rock attitude, no bad press or gender reassignment,, or stupid tantrums at the press. Stay off the drugs and heavy drink and these will be a new entry into rock history. We nearly put the history book away 👍

I agree with those who say they saw them on SNL and were floored! I immediately looked for more. I do, indeed hear LZ, but I do agree that isn't a bad thing. Here's what I thought when listening to GVF the very first time: "Did I just listen to some previously unreleased LZ tracks that were found in an old WWII bomb shelter after being lost to time?" You cannot go back in time. I'd love to go back, with a more mature ear, and listen to all of those old LZ tracks again for the first time. You simply cannot do that. GVF is as close to a time machine to an alternate rock timeline (NO, not Alternative Rock) that exists today. It gives me great hope for the future! I am a fan, instantly!

On serious note, Keanu Reeves does play bass guitar in real life and formed a three piece alt/rock band called Dogstar in the 90's. They toured Europe a few times and I believe put out a couple of albums. You can check them out on KZbin.

Love Greta Van Fleet. I've gone beyond the Zeppelin comparison and into the actual awsomeness of their music. I hope they bring teenagers back to kick ass rock n roll and out of this auto tuned haze they've been hypnotized into listening to.

Fil, I just recently discovered your 'reaction' videos and I have to say that I am a fan. Your reviews are quite fun to watch! I feel that I have to defend GvF a bit - do they sound a bit like a famous band of the 60's/70's? Yes, they are clearly influenced by that era, genre, and group. However, GvF is definitely their own thing. They are young, raw, and unabashedly rock. Yes, they can be seen/heard as a bit derivative, but remember that they are still growing as musicians. Much of what creates the "LZ ripoff" reaction in people are the vocals, but really, is that a BAD thing? There are lots of worse things to emulate... I find GvF very refreshing - a young group who has clearly built an identity, are unafraid to be brutally honest and operate without pretense, and are growing musically at an astounding rate. Well done, Fil.

I completely agree about the romance for music being gone now. I remember waiting for a particular album to be released and going to the record store that day in hopes of getting it before it was sold out.
