I think it was mostly lip service. If he really was impressed he wouldn't go trying to "fix" shortcuts. I don't think that the creator should be able to update "classic" tracks, and effectively reset the leaderboard. I love seeing the record holders explain the story of speedrunning their game. There are so many amazing little details people who aren't among the elite would completely miss. Having a fuller understanding of the little tricks makes it so much better. I'd never seen Trackmania before youtube sent me here and I'm already getting interested in its speedrunning story. I also really liked the interaction between the designer and the runners here. Typically I would have thought leaving it to develop all the cuts and exploits which develop is better for the speedrun community, but in this case it really seems like both sides are having a ton of fun playing cat and mouse. Its just very wholesome to watch everyone come out happy as in this story.
