I've used Dawn Powerwash to clean my oven without warming it and have never used plastic wrap. Racks are sprayed with Powerwash and soaked in a hot bath for an hour. And yes, I wear a face mask so as not to breathe in the fumes from Dawn.

Some oven doors come off. Because when you clean your oven, you have to stand on your head!!! I’ll try the dawn power wash, but maybe not quite so much if it! The secret I found when I got a brand new stove, is not to let your oven get dirty in the first place. Take care of it as soon as your done using it. It just me who uses it now, so I can do that. But in the old days of a large family, time doesn’t always permit that. Great video, you hard working lady!! From Idaho

Hi Emmaline! I enjoyed your Dawn Powerwash Oven Cleaning video. I’ve been using Dawn Powerwash on greasy pots & pans. If I wipe the Dawn & grease off with paper towels, the rinsing out is much easier. So, I think that if you used paper towels to wipe out the oven, THEN used the sponge to rinse the residue off, you wouldn’t have to deal with so much soap. You are much better than I am at tearing off cling wrap. I read a tip saying to freeze your cling wrap first, then tearing it off is easy. So, I’ve got my wrap (in a plastic bag) in the freezer, my Powerwash, & several rolls of paper towels ready to go! Thank you for your wonderful videos!

Thanks for the tips. Also, after I wipe out the oven I spray with a little distilled vinegar and it removes any of the remaining soap residue. The combo of our tips will provide a perfect result. - Emmaline

My comment left before I could finish. As I was going to say, regardless of whether you use either of the techniques, it only works when the oven is lightly soiled, not heavily soiled. You have to repeat again on both methods. Just clean up spills after you bake. If you don't have time, put salt on it to soak up the spill and later crystallize. Clean up later.

I know I’m late on watching your video. My stove came with a steam clean option for the oven. It is basically, put one cup of hot water onto oven floor at 250 degrees for 30 minutes. Wipe clean. Then Dawn power wash for stubborn spots. I leave racks in to steam clean also. Easy and works wonderfully.

That was a clean oven before you started!!!!!! You want to see a really dirty oven, I've got one. I had been pretty lax cleaning it even though it's a self clean for quite a few years, then when I moved into this house the movers lost a box that had all the instructions for all my appliances along with some of my favourite cook books (of course) I can't remember how to do the self clean thing. I got some Dawn Power wash this week and sprayed some on my disgusting door and a bit in the two front corners of the oven which were black, left it on for maybe 15 minutes and I was amazed they came out very clean. I was excited to try it but it was 10 pm and I wasn't about to start a full clean then, I just wanted to have a quick little look. I did buy a large bottle of Dawn and I intend to try your "recipe" with that on my horrible oven but I will warm it up first, mine goes down to 100 degrees (I believe) and stays warm for at least two hours. It's convection, I must tell you it has literally years of crud in it as I only use my oven for baking and the odd casserole as I prefer my air fryer and instant Pot for most other things. So here goes but I'm confident I'll be happy. It sure is a keeper. Thanks for telling me about Dawn.

I have been thinking about cleaning the oven in my rental property and have watched several videos. This is the best I've seen and as I have Dawn Powerwash, SOS and Saran Wrap in hand, I'll use this method. As to razor blades; they are risky to use as one slip can send you to the hospital. However, a commonly used tool is a safe razor blade holder and your mate may have one in the workshop, so ask.

You made a bad assumption that you need to start with a hot oven. This isn't lye-based oven cleaner. It's actually counterproductive. The "magic ingredient" in Powerwash is denatured alcohol, the very first ingredient on the label. The rest of the ingredients are basically diluted Dawn detergent. By starting hot, you're evaporating much of the alcohol on contact, which also negates the point of covering with plastic wrap. You'll have already gotten rid of most of the cleaning power. You're better off starting with a cold oven. The alcohol will stay in the suds longer and you won't need the plastic wrap. The alcohol acts as a solvent to soften and dissolve the grease, then the surfactants keep them suspended.

Her idea is well intended. I always try to read what is used to make a cleaning product. In todays world it seems everything causes a reaction to health. I have used those strong spray oven cleaners in the past and almost lost my breath. My oven has a self cleaning option which I have used once and never again! 17:10 17:11 I am for anything that is organic and using household products and at the same time I do consider if the mixture will overwhelm the house with fumes not to mention children and pets.

You can take the same mixture of paste and except using the regular Dawn dish soap and rub it thoroughly on your dog after he's been sprayed with a skunk. I also added a 6 oz can of tomato juice. Well I actually had the spicy tomato juice but I used it anyway. I just made this up in my head because I had to wash him I just rubbed it on his dry hair rubbed it in thoroughly, let it sit for a little bit and then put him in the tub and sprayed it off. Thanks for doing these videos. I have been asking myself though, am I the only person who lines the bottom of my oven with wide heavy duty aluminum foil? I assume there is some reason you are not supposed to do it but I've been doing it for years. Just swap out the aluminum foil when it gets too bad. Makes one less hard-to-reach surface that you have to put a lot of sweat into when you do a real oven cleaning. Also, I have not seen anyone use one of those battery powered hand held power scrubbers? I have one and I love it for jobs like this.
@WisdomPreserved

A lot of the new ovens have a hidden element under the floor. If you put foil on it, it will melt and become a near permanent part of your oven. The powered scrubber sounds interesting. I may have to look into it. Thanks for sharing.

@@WisdomPreserved Thanks for the response, that makes sense re the aluminum foil. I have a very old oven with the heating element exposed. In addition to the hand held, I have a long handled power scrubber made by Bell & Howell which was branded for Hammacher Schlemmer (discontinued but the regular branded one might be as good). It is a life saver for cleaning the tub/shower, and would probably be helpful for the back of the oven if you had a separate set of brushes for kitchen/bathroom.

That is horrible! It must have gotten into some of the cracks. If you have rinsed it repeatedly I can only think you will have to burn it out. I would turn it on 450 turn the vent fans on and go for a walk. Hopefully it will burn it off quickly. Once it gets in the cracks I am not sure that you have many other options.

I don't understand why anyone would want to use that much cling wrap to use this method... why not just use easyoff.... Anyway the hardest part of any oven cleaning is getting all the soap or chemical residues out of the oven so it doesn't react with the food or heat

How can I clean between the two panes of glass in my oven door?
@WisdomPreserved
@WisdomPreserved 2 жыл бұрын
It is a little bit difficult. It is easiest if you take the door off. There is usually a releasing lock near the oven. Place it on a sturdy location and then you have to get out a screwdriver to open up the door. Use a cup to hold your screws so they don't get lost. Then, you should have access to the glass. Be very careful while it is exposed and vulnerable not to break it.

This was the first time I have used Dawn Powerwash to clean an oven. I did get a little of the spray on the elements when I sprayed the top and it did not hurt the oven. However, when I preheated my oven I could smell it burning off a little. It was not bad, but just remember that the first time you use the oven after cleaning it.

Is it bad to use the self cleaning option that comes with the oven?
@WisdomPreserved
@WisdomPreserved Жыл бұрын
The self-cleaning feature works well but the fumes smell terrible. It can result in a buildup of carbon monoxide in the air that will exacerbate asthma or respiratory disease, and negatively affect household animals. The other issue I have heard is that the high heat for a prolonged period actually decreases the lifespan of your oven.
@dzeller8995

We recently had a wall oven installed with a kitchen reno. The technician told us that the self clean function will burn out the electrical components of the oven due to the high temperature. I will definitely be purchasing Dawn Powerwash.

Why are you not using the Self Cleaning option of the oven as it is an easier and neater process?
@WisdomPreserved
@WisdomPreserved Жыл бұрын
There are two reasons: 1. The fumes created from the self-cleaning are not good for humans or their pets. 2. The sustained high temperatures reduce the lifespan of the unit. There is always a trade off. Like the saying: "Good, fast or cheap. You can only pick two."

@WisdomPreserved

While liquid dish soap has some additives and preservatives that make vapors bad to breathe in, fumes from oven cleaning can be particularly bad for someone with asthma or respiratory problems. Inhaling the fumes can cause breathing issues, sweating, coughing, and flu-like symptoms. If you have breathing issues it may be a good idea to either apply the detergent with the oven cold or allow it to just barely get warm so it doesn't vaporize the power wash when you apply it.

I wiped it down with a wet wash cloth until there wasn't any soap left. A trick would be to spray it with a little distilled vinegar and wipe out with a wet cloth. The vinegar would kill the soap very quickly.

@WisdomPreserved
@WisdomPreserved 8 ай бұрын
I have heard some people omit the cling wrap and that it still worked well. The primary reasons to not use the self cleaner is that it puts horrible fumes in the air and the extreme temperatures for long lengths of time will burn out your appliance faster. It's all about what is most important to you. These are just options.

It is hard to believe people let their ovens get so dirty. I stopped using my oven. I have a convection, toaster oven and I clean it with the Dawn Powerwash on a sponge; cook steaks on BBQ and clean with Dawn Powerwash. My BBQ is a two burner which makes it easy to clean. Use a microfiber cloth to clean off Powerwash. I wash the microfiber cloths. If very dirty soak in laundry tub with Dawn or Tide before putting in washer.
