I loved watching the return of Witchblade on this channel, you did a great job on this video! If you take recommendations, could you please try and cover the drunk Spider-Man vs Hobgoblin comic book? I have been waiting for so many years, and it was one of the times when comics tried to act as smarter PSA style books, so it would be a great way to recover this forgotten masterpiece. Please consider checking it out, it is quite interesting, and I am certain that you will enjoy reading it. :)

I never really liked Sara Pezzini, because she's a bad cop and she violates people's rights and she tortures suspects to get a confession. There's so much Copaganda in this comic series. Lucky, she started to regret her reckless actions during the last few comic runs until 2014.

It was good for as long as Christina Z was scripting, then fell off as writers would come and go for single arcs. But when Ron Marz picked up the book and ran with it for almost 11 years it got FANTASTIC! Wow, this brought back some find memories. I was one of those teenagers that never missed an issue of Witchblade especially while Michael Turner was drawing it. To my mind it is the comic book equivalent of one of the better Jerry Bruckheimer action movies: sexy, trashy, maybe even crass in parts but with real style and polish. As the series goes on the writing actually touches on some fairly thoughtful and poetic themes while still upholding the cheesecake quotient. That's a tricky balancing act. It did irk me though when Sara Pezzini wound up a love interest for the Darkness: Image's douchiest hero. Not a great match for such a kickass female character. Oh, and for the record, I love Turner's Supergirl.

I got into Witchblade--thanks Wizard--around the time Michel Turner left the book, and lasted all the way until Christina Z. stopped writing it. I recently revisited it while organizing old comics, and my main impression is that the book dithered, with a lot of plot points spinning on its wheels in a way that made me wonder if this is what post-Claremont, pre-Morrison X-Men was like. I tried other runs and the TV series, but it never stuck. Part of it is that urban fantasy has never quite been my thing, but there's just also something missing. I'm still waiting for that definitive run.

Top Cow was my second favorite Image Comics production company after McFarlane Productions. I bought everything Top Cow in the 90s. The art was vibrant and the characters were unique. Top Cow was my first exposure to Urban Fantasy, a genre that has gained more popularity since then. Sara Pezzini was a strong, beautiful, and intelligent female hero that was all too rare back then. Top Cow had a way of bringing the reader in with the cheese cake art and keeping the reader with the strong characterization. Great stuff.

I'm getting teen flashbacks. I read so much Witchblade and Darkness. It's hilarious now to think about how much of Darkness's drama came from him not being able to sleep with anyone or else he would die if his partner got pregnant. Just use protection dude... (no he would literally rather die)

Me too. I started read the Darkness first, and then started getting into Witchblade after a few crossovers with the Darkness.

Species won "Best Kiss" at the MTV movie awards when it came out. If you were old enough you remember that movie for sure!

I wasn't familiar with the comic, or the live action TV show... But the anime. In 2007, IFC was airing it the dub, so I watched the entire thing. It wasn't till YEARS later I learned of the comic and show. Two different stories, but alotta cake. Of course I saw all 4 Species movies, don't be ridiculous...(In my old X-Man comics, there was ad for the movie in it lol). I just don't remember 3 or 4 story, besides in Awakening, Star Trek 2009's Spock's Dad was in it, hanging around the new naked alien, and that's it!

As someone born in 97, I definitely shouldn't have been reading this comic when I did but I definitely recognize every frame lol

@2:10 - It looks like you're about to set out on your own 90's style "Kill Bill" type revenge flick there.

I loved it when it came out and still love it now. I have most of Witchblade and Darkness collected, a few issues that I still need to pick up to have the whole floppy collection.
