What is quite strange is a big family like theirs, no one is gay or lesbian. I doubt, not because I wanted to talk bad about them, but because it does happen. Did anyone else find it super strange that in their home schooling scene at the beginning, that they are learning bankruptcy laws? This is something that I have never heard of being taught to kids. Very very strange considering they hardly got proper basics like math, science, language arts, history etc. Off all things to teach. Most public high schools will do a basic intro to economics but I dont recall bankruptcy law being included. It was more like factoring savings and interest. Things like that. This is just weird. And knowing it has to be part of a “wisdom booklet” make me feel like it was setting them up for something like using the laws to their advantage in some way in the future.

You're absolutely right about saying that we dont have to go far to see where Josh learned his behavior. JB has definitely commited marital r-word. Michelle is definitely shamed and guilted into the position she finds herself today. Growing up in a church with similar values (maybe not as bad), Ive seen the long term effect it can have on women. Friends who have been out of the church for years now still struggle with shame and guilt. Therapy has helped a lot of them get past a lot of it. The damage these beliefs cause take far longer to recover from then it did to learn them. My heart goes out to anyone who knows this struggle.

I realized a major flaw in their core beliefs. Like the whole IBLP is problematic but I realized something (besides the whole cult thing obv) The whole Umbrella of Authority. My former church (part of The Potters House, Victory Chapel and a couple other names) had a summer camp thing that sounded like boot camp for real. I didn't send my kids for several of the same reasons you cited. Being a survivor of CSA, I wouldn't risk it...and so that's obviously why it's my fault my oldest is transgender (sarcasm). Lately some of the adult kids from my sons age group have been speaking out about how badly they were treated and basically abused while there.

Tbh, most schools only lightly touch on human anatomy and reproduction in humans. The number of young men who think women urinate out of their vaginas, is astounding. I think we had a “hygiene” class that went over the absolute basics and I was in one of the best schools in my state, lol. Lucky I was a farm kid and knew about that subject. The greed and power is what corrupts these organizations. Many are started with very altruistic beginnings and went way off the rails when money and ability to influence laws came into it.

I do have questions about how the home schooling systems are approved by states in our country. It appears to vary state to state. In arkansas for instance all they need is a notice of intent to the state. So not to hard. Then I read about certain states that require standardized testing. And there are very few shockingly. I feel naive about this. Assuming that parents have best interest for their children. In the case of IBLP not so much. It is all about control and the men in control of this cult. It needs to be stopped.

I homeschooled my kids for several years, in different states. In one, I had to send in attendance every month and keep records of grades and photos. In another I had to go through a certification course before homeschooling them (didn't matter that I had been for a few years already). In another state it was just intent to homeschool, in another, nothing. My stepson's mother sent in an intent to homeschool in my current state. She spent hundreds of dollars on a curriculum. Her son refused, so he just did his own thing. Unschooling basically. He has taught himself a lot, but unfortunately thinks he's an "expert" on everything and that everyone should heed what he says... because after all, he wasn't taught by "the system". He never got a diploma, and never went for a GED.

The first red flag that I noticed was the episode not sure which one but the episode where Josh proposed to Anna at that restaurant. At the end of the proposal the cameraman set Josh's side asking them about the proposal Josh was bragging about how he had other girls prettier than Anna and that he chose Anna anyway for some reason I can't remember the reason he he gave but I thought that was so rude that he would say that on national TV that he could have been with prettier girls than Anna that was my first red flag that something was not quite right with the Duggar family. I was always so shocked that I was the only one who caught that I never have heard anybody else mention that on TV or on the radio or any podcasts or anyting.

I’ve said this before on here and I’ll repeat it…I went to church for a while with a man that was deep into the Duggar doctrine and referred to Jim Bob as his friend. This man was hands down the biggest creep and used the Bible to blame his wandering eyes on how the ladies at church dressed so his admitted issue with young girls was the fault of women who dressed inappropriately. There was not one single woman or girl in my church that dressed provocatively at all. I am not the least bit surprised at anything that comes out of anyone tied to this IBLP stuff.

I went to a Christian camp called the Bill Rice ranch when I was a kid for years. Girls couldn’t wear pants we wore dresses or Coolauts (I legit dunno have to spell that) it was so fun and as an adult I started going to a new church and my pastor was actually one of my camp counselors lol I don’t think the concept of Bible camp is strange, the teaching are corrupt with the IBLP but Bible camp is fun lol horse back riding camping in bunks … the no swimming part is super weird though

Oh, and the children of the man I spoke of? Functionally illiterate. Homeschooled and I swear could barely read and write. He also taught his daughters that they should never go on to college, that their goal in life was to be a good wife and have a husband that provides for you. It’s heartbreaking.
