Just came across your channel at 4am today while researching budget but quality brake systems and here you are with the forks too. At 44 years old I just picked up my first mtb, an old hardtail specialized that needs some tlc and parts replaced. Looks like it's been hodgepodged together with parts from wish that aren't working. Brakes are the first project then drive train and forks. Great videos guys,even though I'm late to the game

@@mtbboy1993 I know, I picked up a very nice 4 yr old RockShox SID for $225 with shipping for a friends bike about 3 months ago. I have ridden the bike and that is a very nice fork, the only complaint I have is that it is blue!
@WOLFTICKVIDEOS2 жыл бұрын
We have considered doing something like that someday, but there will be a few snags. John you said you picked up a fork for $225 so it would have to compete in the $201-$400 category and that has some stud forks in it. If we have to put any money into the fork that would also go into the price point total. Hopefully we will get to do something soon. Thanks y'all 👍

Man, great video as usual! This week should be dubbed “Bonus Week”. I’m glad the Suntour 120mm got an honorable mention. If you upgrade the cartridge for $160, you can get the high and low speed adjustments option to replace the remote lockout. At that point, it takes you out of the $200 budget range, but there isn’t many options like that in the straight steerer fork segment.

if the fork binds up due to slack head angle, it's not good enough for the use, might be bad tolerances, bad bushings, worn out bushings, or be flex, all forks flex, but having the perfect balance is key. But more seals there are more stiction there is.

Nice top 5! X-Fusion used to be a really happening company. I bought one of their Velvet forks in 2009. What a great fork. I still run it on my Full sus bike. Based on your review, and experience with the Velvet, I almost bought an Enix. However, the frame I was going to build up didn't materialize, so I waited, and now they are gone. I finally got my old Jamis Dakar frame back, so I decided to buy the Epixon. It's the "Honorable Mention" model, for the straight steerer. I'll be using a 27.5 fork with 26" wheels. It should work fine, and slacken the geo a bit in the process. I can't wait to try it. Then the bike will go to one of my kids.

Rolling some BJJ, I see....nice. Keep rolling! And, put on an ear-muff helmet for the cauliflower. But! That's not why I'm writing... I'm writing about you a really good front fork budget review. In particular, I just bought an e-bike that has a straight tube it's not tapered. And all your forks there or tapered Fork I believe? Can you recommend a budget fork with rebound, lockout, all that, but NOT a "tapered head-tube"?? And further, I have a 26-inch wheel with 4in rubber tire on it. So the specs are weird because it's not 26 and it's not 27.5 or even 29er... how do I figure out the length the Fork should be??
@WOLFTICKVIDEOS2 жыл бұрын
Hey brother thanks for the comment and the view. Now cauliflower is hardened so no need for headgear!! LOL 😆 And as far as the fork is concerned if it's a folding ebike I believe all the forks have the same steerer tube length, but you could always cut it down. Here is an affiliate link for ya to checkout amzn.to/3aYQXxE These seem to have what your looking for
@BenjaminWasHere2 жыл бұрын
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS it's not a folding bike. It's a 26in with 4 inch tires, made by speedrid. Which is the same popular black hardtail like another 10 different companies have, they're all the same just different names. Soon as I got it, the fork bottoms out and that's pretty much it. I didn't expect anything else so all good. But, I need to put a decent shox in front. Note that - since I wrote this post, I saw your show on the tapered head "adapter". Do you think that adapter will work for the budget shock that you recommended in your budget shox review show? Or, is there a strait not tapered budget shock that you like? That would be the "best" option for this basic bike frame design. The adapter a fall bak option. By the way, I have a long history in BJJ other stuff. I used to fight with Eric Paulson, Henzo Gracie in New York, ...etc. I'm so old, that when I was a regular in fightin, it was before the name "mixed-martial-arts" was even a thing. We used to call it "hybrid fighting!" Ha

careful when buying OEM parts from third party sellers. I bought an OEM fork on Amazon (RST brand) that had the serial number removed. The dropout snapped on me about 3 miles into its first ride (thankfully not while descending so it was only scratches, bruises and a taco'd front wheel). The seller sent me another one and it also had the serial number removed. I was also talking with RST and apparently people will pull their rejected OEM products and sell them. OEM products are not sold by their manufacturers and unless you are buying a take-off from an individual seller, it's going to be super suspect.

I just subscribed to your channel👍. (What's with all the background noice🤨.) Can one of you fellas tell me if the Rock Shox Recon Silver TK 26" forks are worth $390.00🍁. I want the pair with what I believe has the 7050 aluminum steerer tube and maybe crown. Thanks

I have a 10 year old Fox Talus ($880 new) ... my Epixon ($200) is a better fork
@mtbboy19932 жыл бұрын
Fox Talus, those are the forks, Talas is just the version of the fork that let's you adjust the travel with a dial. They no longer have this option. Rockshox did this too, but not anymore.

Wow, that's impressive man. The Suntours travel is amazing and they feel so quality

Which brands of riser handle bars are on the wall, any 7075 aluminum, Thomson, or Titanium?

The Manitou Markhor is a decent fork, use to be around $200. Sadly like everything else it went up.

Is it possible to assemble it ourselves Does it come with a manual Also, does the cycle come with all the tools required to assemble it
@kennygraves4892 жыл бұрын
Tick, the little bit of price difference to cross $200 for me doesn't matter much. I'm torn between the 100mm recon rl with 9mm axle and the epixon 120mm fork with 9mm axle. It appears that the sun tour is about 2 1/2oz lighter but the rockshox claims strength with steel uppers. I'm a heavier guy and don't ride super hard but I'm leaning towards the recon rl for more strength due to my weight. What's your thoughts on my dilemma? Would be going on my medium axum dp.
@WOLFTICKVIDEOS2 жыл бұрын
Hey brother, considering the slack that the Axum has and you being a bigger guy...I would say go with the 100mm travel RockShox. It's probably a little tougher and the travel should be more than enough to suit your needs👍👍👍

I order stuff on aliexpress all the time. They are like the ebay or amazon of china. If your product doesn't show they will give you your money back. The only issue is send stuff back to china.

I had XT 739 V-brake levers and XT 760 V-brakes put on from my previous Norco bike👍👍i bought a couple pairs of Mavic 719 wheels👍👍 (which are long gone😢 lol) An XT M770 Crank, 7075 aluminum Titec H👹llBent riser bars, XT Shadow rear derailer, XT 750 front dereailer, Thomson 7000 series aluminum 140mm Elite stem, Thomson Elite 410mm post, an XTR 960 or 970 cassette (Hopefully with 6/4 Titanium cogs. This cassette cost me 💰250.00🍁 in 2011) and lastly (my apologies for "writing a book HaHa) XTM772 Rapid Fire plus shifters🤘🤘
