ROC wins women's team gold medal, ending Team USA's decade long reign. They posted a total of 169.528, while the U.S. came up short, earning 166.096. Great Britain took the bronze (164.096). It was the first time that the U.S. women have lost a world or Olympic team title since 2010.
ROC lead the standings by more than two points after vault and uneven bars. But things got tense after their first two competitors on the balance beam, Vladislava Urazova and Angelina Melnikova, fell off on their acro series and failed to break 13.000. 2021 European all-around champion Viktoria Listunova salvaged the rotation with a 14.333, giving ROC a .800 buffer heading to the final event.
By the time ROC floor anchor Melnikova saluted, she need just 10.534 to secure the gold.,she delivered an 13.966.
The 2019 world all-around bronze medallist was in tears before she even got off the mat, running to embrace her teammates. Moments later, the tears flowed as confirmation of ROC's gold flashed on the scoreboard.
“After I landed the last tumbling pass, I understood that we did it," said Melnikova afterward through translation. "I never experienced anything like this in my life, because I knew immediately that we did it, that it was possible for us.”

Viktoria Listunova and Sunisa lee stole the show. They gave their absolute 100% everywhere. Especially viktoria listunova she's just 16 in her 2nd international competition.

They literally carried their own respective teams. Suni's performance is impressive even after being left with a very heavy role after Simone's withdrawal. Listunova kept her nerve in the beam and performed magnificently to keep Russia in the lead. They were the MVP's.

Simone didn't actually do the vault she was supposed to do. A lot of people don't realise this, but she was supposed to do a two and a half and only ended up doing a one and a half. Which she didn't anticipate before hand. She's said in an interview that she got completely lost in the air, didn't know where she was, couldn't even comprehend how to twist properly and had no idea where or more importantly what she was going to land on. She was, in her own words, petrified and herself doesn't know how she even landed on her feet. Just something to keep in mind.

Wow, Kim, thanks for saying that. I did not see that either, I am not blind, I live in reality even if it pains me. I do root for the U.S., but sometimes there are foreign athletes that I root for just as well (i.e., Andrade, Melnikova, Iordache, Mustafina are some of my faves). Anyway, I would have said the team A and B thing back in 2016 for sure, but this time, no way! I kept thinking why are people (even the commentators) saying that? I did think we were going to win gold but by a small margin this time around. Even with 2nd in qualifications, I thought they were going to snap out of it and probably get gold by a few tenths. Once Simone pulled out, I knew it wasn't going to happen. Not that they were not capable w/o her, just that the sudden change of course could rattle even the best of athletes.

Russia is coming back strong again. Im sensing a 2010-2012 level of dominance from the big 3. Gelya's starting to achieve the Mustafina/Khorkina/Komova level of greatness. I'm sure she'll slay the 2022-2024 quad without injuries or retirement. She already mastered the DTY, she could pull an amanar, plus she already had a cheng. She's becoming great on beam. She even competed with a full in pike dismount 3 years ago. Her bars can outscore their strongest specialist and she's great on floor. Urazova's clearly going places. A future beam and bars champion, the height on her tumbles are high. She could do a Silivas. Listunova will be the first aa champion from Russia since Mustafina. Her flexibility and execution is unmatched, especially her double layout😭 I'm so excited! edit: listunova's execution is just magical on all apparatuses EXCEPT VAULT💀💀

Even if Jordyn won the AA in 2011, Komova's still much more remembered and celebrated because of her display from that quad. They also have Afanasyeva, literally one of the best floor workers of all time. Tatiana Nabieva who revolutionized bars with her eponymous skill, and the most beautiful gymnast to ever grace the sport-Anastasia Grishina.

Congrats to Russia for the Gold, I was rooting for them to win. They absolutely deserved it, mistakes happen as always, but they were the best team from Qualifications and it was no different in the Team Final. I expected this result but what I didn't expect was the 3.5 advantage, certainly Jordan Chiles's routine on Floor and Simone's absence, regardless of those factors, I still believe Russia had a better team and performance, also, why is nobody talking about TeamGB Bronze?? They made history, it was unexpected, many people had previously said that they couldn't get to the podium without the Downies and they proved those people wrong. I'm so proud of Great Britain and for the first time in a few years the podium positions were really open. It wasn't as tense as the MAG Team Final, maybe, but it was certainly exciting to watch

@@tineegonzales7365 I think 6.0 might be a lot for now since she is still adjusting to her growth spurt and she is stronger on bars and beam anyway. I think with some clever routine adjustments, a range of 5.4 to 5.6 isn't too bad. 6.0 is a lot, considering the stronger floor workers like Murakami and Gelya are at a 5.9, the Gadirovas are at 5.5, and I think Flavia is at around 5.6.
