I've always mounted my door so the larger barrel bung was on the bottom like that. Then make the swinging door out of a piece of thin metal to control the inlet air. I also have one in the door like that. I open both of them to start the fire then close the one on the door to control the burn (or the stove gets up to 600+ degrees) A damper in the pipe also helps to control the fire and heat output.

That Is an awesome wood burner awesome good. One question tho. I'm buying my first house soon and want one of these. Could u also put an intake in the back work or would it get to hot u think
@jimsowa851811 жыл бұрын
what parts did you use to build the new intake? I'm having same problem w/ mine, can't get any fire to back of stove, needs more air. Mine is a double barrel, complete w/ heat tubes through top barrel, and squirrel cage blower on back to blow through pipes. I'd like to modify mine like yours, think that will do the trick!

did you make the air inlet pipe that is in the lower bung, or did you buy it somewhere? Looks nice.

I made it somewhere I have a video on it If you put stove air intake in the search box on my homepage You may find it

Want more air to the back of your stove? Place a pipe that is the same size as your bung and the le length of your barrel, then drill holes in that pipe for the whole length of the pipe then place that pipe with the holes on the bottom side of it. Also you will need to put/weld a brace at the back end of the pipe to act as a brace to support it! Works great!!!

The problem I have running stove pipi horizontal is it fills up with ashes and can creasote up I have built them with a cleanout I don't like going out the roof it can give you a leak problem

Half the fun of building a wood stove is the tuning. Much like a carburetor. Gotta find Stoich!

would u put in garage thats attached to a house
@not2fast4u2c10 жыл бұрын
If you had the proper clearance around it and to the ceiling I would use fireproof board near a woodstove and make sure the house has the right fireproof stuff between the garage and house which is a building code in most areas Where I live it is very hard to get home insurance if you have a woodstove Best thing Have a pro like a furnace guy inpect it

I have noticed that when people build their 55 gallon wood burning stoves that they use the bung whole as an air inlet. Why would people take the heated air from the room and use it as combustion air why wouldn’t they put the bung in the back of the stove and pipe the cool air from outside for the combustion air and regulate the amount by using a ball valve? Any comments would be welcomed.
@not2fast4u2c10 жыл бұрын
In the workshed it does not matter to me.. ..But I agree if I made a pipe that went outside to get air for the stove it would make better heat...You could run a pipe from the back to the front of the stove for an air feed that has holes in it

@@not2fast4u2c i am going to build one but am thinking of not cutting the barrel for the vent holes and only using the bung hole to supply air from the outside. do you think this would be enough? also what about doing a duel barrel? would i be able to reduce the pipe temp that way? going to be going into a basement to heat entire house
@not2fast4u2c5 жыл бұрын
There will be times you will want all the air you can get ..so cut the hole so you can use the slide air intake part ...I have never tried a double barrel ..The problem with cooling the smoke too fast is that is how chimneys soot and creosote up so fast @@narcissistinjurygiver2932

I allways have ashes piled up in the back of the stove so it draws good I would not recomend a barrel stove in a house they can get so hot the metal is thin and it is almost like an open fire fromthe heat
