Thanks for this video I really appreciate it..All this is so confusing sometimes. I know DistroKid only distributes and for a good price as well. I want to start putting out my own music and I want to make sure I collect all possible royalties. My understanding is this: Sign up with Songtrust as an admin publisher so I can collect Mechanical. They can also sign me up with a pro as well. Then sound exchange for my non interactive royalties. Sound right to you? Thanks

I recently uploaded a song to CD Baby for the distribution and their PRO administration program for a future release. While signing up I saw that they use Sound exchange as well but not SongTrust. My question do I need to sign up for SongTrust for this particular realease?

Thank you for an excellent Presentation. Sound Exchange is difficult but a wonderful organization. But I do have a couple of questions as we are having issues at the moment with ASCAP. (please be patient for the moment I will try to keep this as brief as possible) We (my fiancee & myself) are strictly songwriters due to disabilities that preempt any live performance by us at all..But we are good and have the hardware/software to make competitive quality music. My fiancee is the lyricist period because I SUCK at lyrics.(lol!) I do 99% of all musical arrangement. If we were handling all the performance this would be a simple 50/50 split, however... We are now partnering with a third party who does vocals, occasional keyboards and his own mixing/mastering/arranging of his vocals. He is very good so I do not often need to do additional editing or mixing of his vocals Just drop in the mix and move forward. We generally (to keep it simple) do a 35/35/30 split so my fiancee & I get all our master owners rights and we deal strictly with submitting to Songtradr for hopefully commercial distribution (i.e. sync licensing) but our vocalist distributes through DistroKid. Can you clarify how we (fiancee & myself) can properly update our catalog with Sound Exchange? We have no issues at all with the way we split our portions with our vocalist. We consider him part of the family now and his contributions always improve the whole song. Because I also do a LOT of just instrumentals for Songtradr submissions a majority of our songs are strictly me so no confusion of splits. Also, ASCAP recently changed their website way of submissions and we currently are having problems getting our new originals properly categorized with them. We are self published and do not have a formal business bank account (i.e. 1099 stuff) for our publishing and ASCAP will not recognize our business name until we pay them additional $$'s for it. Songtradr doesn't seem to have an issue with this. And our vocalist through his DistroKid Account does not have issues either. As I said previously we (fianee & myself) are on fixed income due to disabilities so do not have easy throw away funds to keep paying admin fees to ASCAP and everyone else. Will Sound Exchange have problems collecting without the official (i.e. taxable business account) with ASCAP?) (Also been researching BMI and they don't seem to have this problem ASCAP does...so even more confused...) I know this is a lot to throw on your table and I apologize for that. Thanks for making this video! Quick question: I am the featured artist on a track produced by a music producer/dj duo called Primoz. I wrote and recorded/performed the vocals. Do I put "Primoz feat. Rhiannon Roze" in the Artist section or just Rhiannon Roze? Do I claim 100% (of featured artist performance royalty) or just 50% because Primoz would be the other artists? That part confuses me. They produced the beat/sounds but I am the only featured artist/vocalist on the track. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

@@wordplaytjay Thanks so much for clarifying. It's confusing, I think the first column of the form should specify "All Artists" or at least "Artist(s)" instead of just "Artist". Then, in the % column, when I think of "Featured Artist" I think of precisely that - the featured artist (not the main artist) so in my head I think that I should get 100% of the featured artist part because I am the only "featured artist". Grateful that people like you are out there!

If you’re registered with BMI as a performer Writer then your ID number is only to register your music so they can keep track of your performances. Your single should also be registered with a Digital Distribution Company then and there is where you will get your UPC code and IRSC code for SoundExchange. You can’t use your BMI ID number on SoundExchange

I'm itching to release something but I wanna wait till I copyright them first for one fee. Am I safe to release them if I put them on my Soundexchange catalog before I copyright them? Just realized that I got the ISRC codes from ASCAP probably when I went through CD Baby, so how do I get an ISRC code for each song unless I wait till they're all done and can release them all for one fee through CD Baby?
