That full-size spare takes me back to 80s/90s SUVs. All it needs is a tan upholstered cover, lol. I know people will complain about it being inside, but living in a state with heavy roadsalt, you dont want it underneath, or it will eventually become a permanent fixture. Often, when you need it most. I am really impressed with the size and usability of the cargo space in this new Passport, and I really like the exterior and interior style. The only problem I do have so far is that the second row seats are not on sliders, which is inconvenient for rear facing car seats. Its going on the consideration list for in a few years when its time for something "new" (lightly used CPO) EDIT: Alright, table shelf gimmick sold me

Thanks, Nathan! I've been waiting for Honda to do some of these things. Now to decide if it is worth the money compared to some of the competition. Also, as a 21 Ridgeline driver ( and 08 RL for the 13 years prior to that), I ma still waiting for these improvements to become available on the truck. The available full size spare is great, but I suspect you lose some net cargo space from that, despite what is gained by removing the doughnut tire. 8.3" is still about the worst among it's competitors, but I'm sure that pays off when not actually off road. Pros and cons, and trade offs. But finally, a Honda that I would not be terrified to actually take off road due to lack of ground clearance and lack of skid plates and sliders! Honda is moving on up!

Off-roaded with it and hasnt disappointed at all. The comfort is great on road and off. My cousin got the 2024 explorer timberline AWD, but the AWD system is Not as good as the Honda Pilot. When this styling reaches the Ridgeline, it will surely become a hot ticket item. I could also see an Element reboot based on this styling. Even if it came with a larger 4 cyl, it would do numbers. Because of it's transversely mounted architecture, aftermarket lifts and mods are harder to accomplish. Honda could offer some dealer installed options and clean up on them. Also, drop the H logo for the Passport script on the grille.

This thing is pretty cool, but it's only going to be as good as the aftermarket allows. The bronco sport compared to the bronco suffers from very limited parts availability. Same situation with the wrangler vs any of the baby jeeps. The bronco sport at least has options for skid plates, rock rails, and a decent coilover lift set, but they're pretty expensive and for some unknown reason still don't have cooled seats. Ford also manages poor mpg with the ecoboost lineup the way they only can. I like that this has a v6, good tow rating for it's size, and honestly looks good considering Honda's normal design they go with. And yea, I get that "It's not an off road vehicle", but at the same time, we've got the ability to have better approach, breakover, and departure angles than this has on the same size tires. Also, why 18" wheels instead of 17"? There's a ton more options for 17"s and you can get a little more sidewall. I'm sure this is going to fill a huge niche, and for Honda buyer's or those mad at Toyota with their pricing and drop in reliability, but even though I usually love weird vehicles like this I'd have to give this one a pass.

Great review as always Sir !!!! To truly tow "up to" 5k lbs, does this gen require a transmission cooler to be installed, "as a add on", like I've heard previous gens have had to for towing 5k lbs? Strange the generator storage slot and full size spare storage location is behind the driver and behind the 60 portion of the 60/40 split/folding seat. It would make more sense to have that storage location behind the 40 side of the 60/40 folding seats. If car camping, you could be sleeping on the 60 side of the 40/60 split folding seats and leave the other seat, infront of the spare, upright.

Knowing how good the old school crv’s were at a overland style vehicle this is good to see coming from Honda. Hopefully it keeps that same overland style capability the first gen crv’s once had. It’s definitely not a off-road vehicle, but great for someone who wants to go camping in some more remote places.
Nice enough looking rig, and a V6 is a welcome thing in today's automotive world. Not sure I would call it much of an off roader, though. 8 inches of ground clearance and the body sits below the centerline of the wheels. Approach and departure angles are actually pretty good looking, but it's gonna need a significant lift to overcome that breakover problem! You say it isn't meant for off roading, but it is specc'd with AT tires, has a bunch of off road modes, etc. So... I drove an HPD passport a year or so ago as a rental. I hated it so much. It had so many driving nannies that couldn't be turned off it was obnoxious. Continually threw a fit (flashing dashboard and shaking steering wheel) when I drove through roundabouts thinking a head on collision was about to happen. Wouldn't back up over a 2 inch curb that was 10 feet from a fence because it thought it would hit the fence or something.

The commentary on the ground clearance of "only" 8.3 inches is amusing, since I could take (for example) my father's 2021 Silverado 1500 RST Crew Cab 4x4 (with Z71 package) and according to Chevy (and other sources like motor trend and edmunds), it has a ground clearance of 8.09 inches. Funny how that works. Or my buddy's 2022 Colorado Crew Cab Z71 (short box), which has a clearance of....8.2 inches. Yeah, if you compare this to something like a ZR2 or a Raptor with 10+ inches, it comes up short, but if you compare it to the most commonly sold trims of mid and full-size pickups, it is right there in line while providing better MPG and daily driving. I would say it is the perfect blend of daily driver and mild off-road capabilities. Comparing the max off-road trim of a unibody crossover to the max off-road trims of body on frame vehicle regarding the clearance is disingenuous at best, apples and oranges.
