Jingles, you give tanks like the T-34-3 a bad rap for having terrible gun depression, but there is a lot more to a tank than gun depression. The T-34-3 is one of my favorite tanks to play because it's maneuverable, has well sloped armor, and tons of alpha damage. I don't drive strait up slopes and try to point the gun straight down at tanks who have their guns pointed at me, I use the maneuverability to get around the sides and use the terrain to point the gun down. It's a great brawler because you don't have to expose yourself very much with that great alpha, and backing around corners after taking a shot and angling your armor produces a lot of bounces off the hull. I just that your play style doesn't allow the T-34-3 to use it's strengths and protect it's weaknesses (and neither does that guy's who you decimated.)

Jingles I have a question. On Xbox WoT there is an in-game indicator system that uses ribbons to let you know when you damage an enemy, crit an enemy, spot or earn spotter damage, or get a kill. This allows people to know if they are hitting an enemy and damaging them without needing to actually spot them. The ribbons will keep popping up upon successive hits, and remain at the top right of the screen until the end of the game. Do you think a similar system should be used on pc?

I don't know if the T34 in the first vid specifically loaded HE just for you. I have seen quite a number of tanks, in higher tiers, firing HE when they shouldn't have been (like at my IS-6) I'm chalking it up to somebody went up the tech tree WAY too fast and doesn't know what HE IS good for. Jingles, you're complaining about the grind on this tank, take a look at the Chinese WZ-120; to get the best gun on this tank you need: Tracks: 22 400 Gun #1: 45 000 Turret: 23 500 Gun #2: 59 000 Gun #3: 59 000 that's over 200 000 xp grind just to get the best gun! And then you need the best engine as well. And after that you'll need another 180 000 for the next tier. It's effectivly the/one of the most expensive tier 10s in the game.

Actually Jingles, the STA-1 was more base off of the Patton series tank, not the Pershing. The STA-1 was a late 50s, early 60s design if I remember correctly.

I've stopped using XVM for a number of reasons, 1. I couldn't be bothered to log in once every two weeks to keep XVM working, 2. I really only used it for the damage panel, and 3. Being a Captain in WGLNA Bronze League with the changes to the rules for our summer season, we aren't allowed to use any mods that affect the in battle screen.

For those players who don't have unlimited funds or earned free xp, don't bother with the radio or engine upgrade. You get those for free once you unlock the Type 61. You will need the tracks to mount the turret and top tier gun, I think, or maybe equiping the "improved suspension" module will allow it. I'm still working my way up this line. I love watching Jingles videos for his commentary/enthusiasm and his style which I think is similar to my own. But he has the luxury of doing this for a "living" which means he plays more and can afford gold to convert free xp. Paying free xp to radio and engine on this tank will improve the tank but not enough to notice. Instead save that xp for the turret/gun and then get the Type 61 unlocked sooner. It will make the grind a little more manageable IMO.

I do like my STA-1 - I re-bought it for the NA server STB-1 On Track event as I also have the Type 61, and the STA-1 is the only other decent Japanese tank lower in the tree. Funny thing is, on the Type 61 that same top gun from the STA-1 has an even better RoF which makes it a joy to grind - I got four Ace Mastery badges in one day using that gun (granted, I was playing it and the STA-1 exclusively).

The 90 mm gun on the STA-1 is pretty much identical to the 90 mm on the french FCM 50t. Only difference is 6 higher penetration. Just noticed, damn nice gun to say the least.

I don't think the T34 in the first replay loaded HE because he knew your tank had no armor. Judging from his stats, he doesn't know HE from AP at all. 0,2 kills per battle in his T34... I think he just uses HE. Unsurprisingly, the mle 48 is the same. Horribad stats and 0,2 kill per battle in the TD. I think they shoot HE at everyone tbh.. The damage numbers are higher on the HE, you know, so why wouldn't they? ;D

You just beat me to the STA-1 since I lost internet for a month, but now I finally got the STA-1. :) Now I'm broke though, and have no free exp for any modules. Jingles, they are NOT firing HE at you because of the tank you are driving. They shoot HE at you because fuck knows why. Just look at their stats, they are DEEP red, those are the kind of mouthbreathers that read raw dmg of the HE shell and have no clue what penetration means. You can watch this on the AMX48. The T34 might be completely new cos you can just buy one and jump into a game. But the AMX48 had HE loaded before he could even see you! You pop up, he turns and shoots HE. They have this preloaded, most likely using the suggested preload that WoT gives them. I see this on alot of IS8, god knows why.

I have my STA-1 for a couple of months now (and I unlocked the Type 61 already) and I can't remember to waste a lot of free exp into the top turret and the Type 61 90mm gun. I actually unlocked the 90mm Rifled gun first. Playing the STA-1 gave me even more pleasure after unlocking the Type 61 90mm, but it was by no means terrible with the other two guns. I just played like I always do: passive, until I see an opening in the enemy defences.

I love the STA-1 As a stock grind, it isnt bad, i scored a levaslaiho medal with a stock gun along with a dozen high caliber, now that its fully upgraded its so amazing. Although it has no armor, it has great camo rating. I love this more than the centurion(which is saying a lot since the centurion 1 and 7/1 are my precious lil brits). Give it more time uncle jingles, youll love it. I have 63%wr with 140+ battles in it and still grinding for type 61

Jingles you can disable the statistics, just go to your xvm configs folder and open the .xc files with notepad++ and when you see lines like showChances:true just overwrite it to showChances:false, you can to the same with showPlayerStatisticts etc.

It was tough as you said when initially getting the STA-1. But once the tank was fully upgraded after suffering through grinding with the stock gun, mitigated by the 90mm Rifled Gun, but once it was fully kitted out, i think i may struggle to let this go and move on to the Type 61

Jingles, Emile can dig trenches with its gun depression. It is unrivaled in the game with 15 degrees of gun depression. But only 10 elevation.

I quite liked the Japanese tanks tiers I-IV. Then things got rough with the Chi-Nu, Chi-To and Chi-Ri, which is where I'm stuck now. Good to know things get better again at tier VIII

Grind isn't really that bad compared to other tier 8 mediums. Stock gun is decent - comparable to what Pershing gets from T20 but Pershing moves like a heavy tank without upgraded suspension and engine. After ~44k xp you get the top gun (+tracks and engine) while STA-1 gets it for 19k xp... It's a way more painful grind than STA-1, even with premium ammo. Then, there is a Centurion on which you have to spend 15k xp on middle gun because stock gun sucks and then 48k xp to get the 20pdr if you don't play heavy tanks (IMO grind on both Churchills is even worse so it's actually better to get mediums first). Also, don't forget T-44. You get gun from T-43 which is horrible on tier 8. Then you need to research tracks and turret to put anything better... and what you get after 40k XP is a derpy D-10T 100 mm gun. Then you spend another 20k (so 60k xp in total) just to LB-1 100mm which is still worse than middle gun on STA-1 which you get for 19k xp. It's not easy grind but it's not that bad at all. You can get a decent gun pretty fast and mount it without researching anything else while some other tier 8 meds need twice or three times more XP to get comparable gun.

Jingles -- I had this tank and sold it after getting the Type 61 and the fantastic STB-1. The STA-1 is an 'okay' tank, but personally I would rather play my Centurian at Tier 8. The problem with the STA-1 is that it starts really showing its' weaknesses in a Tier X battle. The Cent is better in high-tier battles, imo, with better AP pen and at least some turret armour.

Well Jingles I'm not sure if you have ever noticed but even the weak spots on the KV-4 are extremely hard to penetrate. I never use gold on them but I do get tired of my Tiger 2 bouncing off of all of its weakspots.

Nice review Jingles, I'm rather surprised you didn't compare it's gun to the Indien Pz. It's kinda the same thing only better :). Got two replays for you with the Ace Tanker badge at the end, proof that people should really prioritize this tank if they can :). What you will notice once you get 6th sense is that the thing has somewhat of a good cammo ability so it can also be played like a hellkitty

So the grind is about like the Hellcat as far as the guns go. That is very, very painful. I remember trying to fight with the stock gun on the Hellcat. Not fun. Ended up quitting the tank, leaving it in the garage, until I had money to burn and used free xp for everything but the T25/2.

I loved my STA-1 when I was playing it, but I'm gonna say because you had only played 12 games in this tank before this video that you didn't get to notice how terrible that first engine is. It catches fire and breaks a lot and the upgrade makes a huge difference. Get the engine first if you're grinding this tank the old fashioned way.

Btw, i think you ammo racked him because reload is ~11 seconds with 100% crew, and that means you shoot 2 times for every one shot he does, and if he had planted all 3 shots you would have died.
