If you'd asked me 3 weeks ago if I would have kept up with the Candidates tournament I'd have said "no". But Levy's commentary is just that good. Truly impressive how he knows which parts to speed through, which parts to focus on, and how to bring excitement into the telling.

I recommend checking in on the games while they’re live, especially towards the end, because it gets really intense as you wait to see if they make the right moves. I still watch these recaps because they’re fun but watching the game live and seeing all the variations is awesome when you have a close high-stakes tournament like this one with decisive games

I dont comment on KZbin videos normally, but I gotta say, this is one of the best recaps I have ever watched. Its not just the games played, its how you put them in order, how you make a story line to present out of them, and how enthusiastically you talk about every position. Gukesh is the only player with the luxury of playing for a draw - but Hikaru with the white pieces should be fully capable of making damn well sure that's a decisive game, one way or another. Meanwhile Ian and Fabi are both in a must win situation. So we should expect two extremely exciting games.
@indianfan1029
@indianfan1029 7 ай бұрын
Not a good pairing for Hikaru. Gukesh will spot all his tactics. It would have been better for Hikaru to play some other player. Also, he shouldn't have drawn today. There was chance to play. Tomorrow he may not even get a chance to play for a win.

@@indianfan1029 I mean he didn't know Gukesh would beat Firouzja. What he said was he may turn out in hindsight to regret taking the draw but that it made more sense to him to have to take massive risk in the last round where he knows the situation perfectly, than in round 13 where it may turn out to cost him the tournament and a draw would have been fine.

@@sreejitde3351 I don't even play chess but it seems fabi and ian will definitely end in 1 win and 1 loss because if they draw they lose. so gukesh will go in final round with hikaru knowing he can play for a draw to go into a tie break. everyone else has to go for a win which puts pressure of gukesh. As fans, we couldn't ask for anything more. This is so great for chess, the 4 leaders play eachother and all but Gukesh need to win while Gukesh needs a draw to guarantee at least an armageddon. If you're Hikaru, you can't really ask for much more to be facing off with the 17 year old inexperienced leader of the candidates tournament only down half a point. Fabi and Nepo's game should be nuts, a tactical slugfest. Gukesh should probably play for the draw knowing hikaru has to press. Minimize risk and just try to guarantee at least one more winner take all game. Will his inexperience lead him to stumble into tactical positions that pose complications even if they are still evaluated by engines as equal. Hikaru is especially adept at understanding lines and moves that pose complications so it could still go either way! Cannot wait for it!

Ever since I started playing again I improved from 600-1300 and started playing again with my grandpa. I also joined a local chess club and have started playing in person tournaments.
