Lows will drain the PS more than mids and highs. So if you feed both lows and the mid/highs into one amp the PS will be drained more when lows are needed and that can affect the mids/highs. Where if one amp only sees mid/highs, that PS will be more stable all the time. Then any PS sag will only affect the lows in the low amp.

Live where Jay is going. Back to the future in late 90's audiophile retail dealer floor dreamz. And bringing it back to today and the "online" era. Jay would have been the $1 million plus salesman of the year and setup your home.

A very pretty amplifier. It seems that Jay does not consider it as revealing as the Boulder amplifier, which is somewhat controversial. Looking forward to Jay's honest review and hoping it can be compared with other products.

Things are never dull in the lab. I’m really looking forward to finding out about the sonic differences between very different amplifiers, and thanks Jay, for your hard work. The visuals of the Dan D’Agostino electronics can be tricky, IMHO. The amps look very classy in the chrome finish, but a whole room of the watch dials seems a bit much. The black is very cool, but I can see many spouses banishing it from the living room 😏 / 😕
@matthewbarrow3727Ай бұрын
The reason for one amp for the lows and one amp for the highs is so that you can go active using an active cross-over, with one type of power amp for the highs and one type of power amp for the lows. e.g. I use internal class-D modules for my active Legacy Audio Valor speakers, and a 20 watt tube integrated amp for the highs (above 800Hz). The class-D can control the bass very well. The tubes in the pre-amp section very nicely handle the highs. The change in sound with the high frequency section can be very dramatic when switching from one type of amp to another. You can also go with lower wattage and so get better quality for the price. Very good high powered tube amps can get very expensive.

Well done! Jay, this is the type of video we like to see (in addition to equipment review, show reports, interview). I am not interested in clips where there is a defensive aspect("hater" type monologues) to what you do, what you review, where you get the equipment from and what you pay for them. I'm here for the positive aspects: education, enjoyment, and living audio life vicariously through you! All the best!

You asked about why sonus faber speakers wanted you to use one amplifier for the mids and highs and another for the base. back in the day we would put tubes sweet sweet tubes on the mid and high and solid state for big bass, that’s going back to the early 80s. Maybe they’re just thinking old-school.

Extremely beautyfull amplifier! I just don’t get one thing, if you are not going to convert them to monoblocks, how are you going to connect one amplifier to each speaker? They should be running in mono for that, shouldn’t them?

jay having owned the m400 with the momentum had pre i can say the following. i moved on to a stereo msb s202 with the same premier dac that i used with the d’agostino gear. I can say that i find the msb amp to be cleaner and faster than the D’Agostino. i want to upgrade to a pair of m200 and see where that will take my sound.

Hi Jay! Hoping you’ll eventually get the $200,000 D’Agostino Relentless 800’s (which, IMHO, in black, are the best-looking power amps in the world). Adrian Low, over on Audio Excellence Canada, described their sound as being the most evocative and emotional that he had yet heard. And some day…….drumroll…….the matching $157,000 Relentless Preamp, which, in black, is one of the most beautiful objects ever created by a human being in all of history. I wonder how it sounds…….

Should be interesting! I've owned a Dan designed integrated Krell amp that I loved it. Listened to the older 200wpc ( if I recall the power correctly) version of what you have now. A little disappointed although it could have been the set up. The Relentless were off the chain!

JAY! With all due respect to you and our (sometimes expensive:-) hobby, which BTW I participate in, I do have to wonder about the "wisdom" of promulgating stereo gear that SOMETIMES is comparable in price to some modest houses. The AIM of high end gear, it might me argued, is to get as close to the illusion of live sound in our homes. I'm sure all your gear that you either own or revue is stupendous in that regard BUT no matter HOW esoteric or expensive, it will never be the real thing which of course is musicians playing live. It might come CLOSE but no cigar :-) The point I"m attempting to make is that if we really want the real thing, then let us spend less on ultra expensive gear and more on the real thing which is attending live events which BTW, in my experience, is way more rewarding in many aspects - sound and societal just to mention a couple - as well as the fantastic VISUAL treat of watching musicians ply their craft. This is NOT to say that we shouldn't have a good system at home! But I know from experience that no matter HOW much we spend on gear, it will never measure up to live music ... so we end up spending sometimes REAL money chasing the unattainable and our tails. I LOVE this beautiful gear you are showing and HIGHLY respect the creators of it but I love live music even more :-) All the best with your quest :-)

“Massive amplifiers, heavy power supplies, bags of power”. Personally, when choosing an amp I look for resolution, tonality, dynamics, fluidity and linearity. I can get all that for far less than 44000. Vut if size, weight and power are what floats your boat? and it costs you 44000 to achieve that, then you’re a very different audiophile to me!

Audio is all about sound and not about looks. Based on the DNA of the products D'Agostino makes, they are not the best. It lacks stage depth, width, and height compared ot the best ones. It also lacks layering in sound. The other limitation I auditioned was that these amps were not able the build a very tangible focus of the voices and instruments.
