Thank you RMRS. "What's on the inside is all that matters" is the demise of style in North America 😔. How did we go from pre-1970s crisp style to shlupmy? 🤔 Being put together is a responsibility for each and every person. I once saw in a comment section that a way of making a more formal style seem more casual is like having cuffs unbuttoned, and having a large gap between your neck and the tie knot. They were going for that sprezzatura feel but just looking actually un-kept and sloppy doesn't really accomplish that style goal.

Great advice, especially the first one about not having a woman pick out your clothes. You don’t want to be like the guy my wife works with; his wife picks everything he wears to work except socks. A lot of the women in the office make fun of him about that.

Once again you are spot on. Your SNCO's trained you well ...lol.. continue to do what you do, it's always well said and well done. Also you are always looking for topics, ideas for topics. .. Leadership Traits and Principles. ... and adapting them to civilian management and thinking. Creighton brand shirts are they available in civilian, not khaki, colors ? I do still cross lace my dress shoes, left over right and the bridge goes under, to to many years in the Corps to change. ..so I break that style rule lol. I'm also guilty of wearing the "horrible" cargo pocket shorts. But I iron them flat and creased. Which lends to my first statement. In the Corps you taught relentlessly, you have to look as good in your civilian attire off duty, as you do on duty in uniform. In other words, if pay the same attention to how you look in a pair of jeans or shorts and a shirt be it on the golf course or whatever your leisure activities. As you do when you go to work, be it the construction site or in a office. Not to mention dress your age ! Well then your style and confidence and respect and outlook will improve.
@petrospavlidis77475 жыл бұрын
I used to wear suits a lot earlier, and as you said, it is not always a good idea. People can feel like you are distancing your self, and feel uncomfortable. On that topic, I think it is important to think about your vocabulary. We have a saying:"Talk with the learned in Latin, and with farmers in the farmers way." A really unstylish thing is people who use "big" words just to keep others down and belittle them. A gentleman should be able to make everyone relaxed. A lot of government agencies and companies here in Sweden use the dress code "intact and clean". Which is basically just what it sounds like. Usually with the addage of no political stances and the like. I would like it to be a bit more conservative and formal, but I guess it makes people more comfortable than meeting people in suits when they are in a bad place.
@05Rudey3 жыл бұрын
I used to be that guy "Wear what you want to wear, as long as you are happy with yourself and comfortable etc" Then I hit 35, still wearing sneakers, cargopants, hoodies, baggy graphic T-Shirts still thinking I'm 21 and where I was working at the time, sure I was down with the kids, they thought I was cool but people my age and older didn't want to know me, or take me seriously. Then I was shamed in a few ways, cut a long story short, I met up with some old Uni friends and they turned up looking their best and dressed to impress I means they had looked after themselves, they looked gym fit, smelling great hair on point turned up in smart casual, polished expensive looking boots, crisp shirts, Perfectly fitted jeans/chinos, Tweed/sports jackets, watches that made the heart miss a beat, brands like Omega, Longines, IWC. I had my battered old G-Shock. I turned up wearing the same style clothes as when we used to meet up in the Computer Science Lab to write Code for the project that we were working on 15 years ago. They were happy to see me, but you can tell... They were disappointed, it's not like they left me behind in the game, we had similar jobs, careers, similar money but they seemed to care more about what they looked like than I did. After a few other situations that made me question my outward image. I decided to make a real effort to dress better. I started of small with items I already had but just didn't wear. That was the real crime, I had all the gear, like the nice Brown Chukka Boots, the dark 501's that fit well, the crisp shirt, the Swiss Army Knife Blue Blazer and the Tag Heuer pro 2000 Automatic my dad got me for graduation, just not the desire (or confidence) to wear them. After the obvious work, like trimming up a bit at the gym, regular hair cut(s) and facial hair trim and making the effort after a few months my boss was inviting me to his house for Cigars and Scotch with the older lot. What really annoys me, I used to be a snappy dresser in my teens Then something malfunctioned in my 20's and I just looked like a tramp most of the time.

I thought I was decently versed in style but the point about the cuff links is new to me. I never really liked cuff links with casual outfits because I thought it kinda stuck out for being out of place in a casual outfit because I typically associate it with formal outfits.

You and I live in two very different worlds. I like to tell people I am a commodity Mobility engineer. Truth is I drive a truck over the road. People have a tendency to judge my kind. However another truth is that without guys like me the rest of you would have nothing. Whatever you have or own that is necessary for you to live your lives was brought to you on a truck like mine. So quite a bit of your advice is irrelevant to me. This being said I still get quite a bit out of your videos. The reality is people really do make judgments about all of us in the first few seconds they see us. These judgments will be reflected in the way they deal with us. So I do find many of your videos and advise very useful. Keep up the good work.

You should never manipulate watch crown while on the wrist. It may result in angular forces that may break the stem of the watch. In fact wearing the watch on the RIGHT wrist has 2 advantages: it keeps water away from the crown in case it wasn't fully secured and avoid friction of the crown with back of the hand when doing dorsiflexion of the wrist especially wh6case size is large

There's no reason to avoid glued shoes. In my experience, the soles are going to last until you want to replace them anyway. In some shoes I've had, the leather failed before the glued sole did. Like my service boots from the military, for example: glued rubber soles. Now, these particular boots (the M77) are not fantastic boots for hiking in the mountains or wherever, though perfectly serviceable - most people find the rubber of the soles is the first thing that fails (if it fails). Never had a problem with the glue. Nor with any other glued shoe.
