The general arc of this show is that: It starts out as a comedy with some good drama, but then by the end, it’s a drama with some good comedy.

The show doesn’t truly reveal itself until episodes 7 & 8. Those are the episodes that reveal what this show is REALLY going for. And the later seasons have a truly unparalleled level of emotional depth to them.

This is a very level-headed review of those episodes and hopefully you make more videos about BoJack if you continue watching. I think the show really hits its stride closer to the end of season 1 and mostly stays good from there. In some ways, it departs from the stereotypical adult animated sitcom feeling at that point too, but still retains its silly sense of humor throughout. If you're not already aware, be prepared for a lot of "wow, that's messed up" and "whoa, that got dark/heavy" moments.

Bojack's actually famous for making a number of reviewers who only looked at the first few episodes of a show change their review metrics because of how much it changes from those first few episodes! Good luck!

This is literally my favorite American Animated show, and it's that kind of show that the people that love it and the people that hate it do so for the same reasons. It's a show that is downright depressing and can be hard to watch more than one episode at a time for people that struggle with some of the same things the characters do. Despite being animals, they're all so human.

The idea behind the first season is to trick you into thinking it's just another adult cartoon, in the same vein as Family Guy. No depth, just laughs. The further you go, the more you realize that couldn't be farther from the truth. So the first few episodes are kind of subpar compared to the rest of the show, on purpose. It gets good at episode 7 and it gets REALLY good at episode 8. Without spoiling anything, I can say that Bojack and Sarah Lynn's relationship gets taken much more seriously in later seasons, and the next few episodes are dedicated to exploring each member of the supporting cast. Also, the gross-out humor dies out pretty quickly. BoJack Horseman is my favorite show of all time, so I'm super excited for you to keep watching!

One thing you SHOULD know before you continue: this show is really good at using the F word when it counts. It usually limits it to once per season, so I recommend paying attention to who says it, when, and why. Makes for some pretty raw moments!

The show gets funnier and more darker. Quite dark in some spots about nihilism and depression. So it's definitely not a show for everyone. But it nails what it's trying to say. I hope you enjoy your watch!

This show gets pretty brutal. Hope you like it! But I'd advise looking up content warnings if you think you'll need them.

I loved BJH during 99% of its run, but the second to last episode triggered my mental health stuff HARD. I can't think of anything else about this show anymore without thinking about that. Just one little content warning that it was going to deal with themes of suicide would've saved me a lot of anguish and depression shit, tbh. So. Be warned.

If you do end up watching it, I'd love to get occasional update videos as you go to hear your thoughts. As a lover of character-driven dramas, Bojack is one of my all-time favourites, and getting to vicariously experience your first-time viewing is as close as I can get to watching it for the first time again myself.

Bojack Horseman is my favorite show of all time, but I kinda hate season 1. Especially the first few episodes. Very unfunny. It gets so much better in late season 1/season 2
