Great conversation. Nice Kai that you went to see Kelly during his rocovery process I bet he appreciate you stopping by to talk surfing. The reason why I think people dont like this new world title format is the simple fact that the Van's Triple Crown was PERFECTION. It was something I looked forward to literally all year long. Nothing captures the energy & excitement as the Triple Crown on tour. Yes, Tahiti, Fiji, J-bay are great but, nothing like the Triple Crown. I hope they bring back the Triple Crown. And, still hope that Van's will sponsor it. They did a fantastic job for so many years. I feel like Griff did not surf how he usually surfed with fast long line carves. I feel like maybe the pressure or nerves got to him. There was a vid that dropped just days prior to the final with raw waves from Toledo, Ethan & Griffin. And, Filipe was the winner. He was top form & was like Kelly state fast & very technical with every turn & aries he did. Kelly, Eat the carnivore diet to heal your body up faster (seriously look into this see yt Shawn Baker Md Podcast, Dr Ken Berry, Dr Mindy Pelz) and eat raw sauerkraut after surgery to rebuild your good gut bacteria flora (aka your immune system). You can buy RAW sauerkraut at health food store/joe traders/big box store in the frig section near yogurt/cheese). Must be RAW not pasterized aka cooked. Ps Peter king Molokai channel crossing is NOT boring. Keep talking Kai.

The best surfer of all time surfing at chopes for the gold medal would be legendary. If there’s a way for him to get in that would be fantastic as a Slater fan. I love these guys perspective on surfing and breaking down the the dynamics of heat strategy and the technical aspects of the top surfers. Kai and Kelly should do these regularly if they don’t already.

Doc Locked it back together with 5 screws and a titanium plate. Always working on rehabbing it but after 16 yrs , im 53 now, I think my legs just overall weaker and a bit uncoordinated. I hear it's very painful when the hip joint rubs bone to bone with deterioration of labrum. Good luck and God Bless , You are the Surf Goat!

@kailenny maybe felipe has his arm high at start of carve because it helps him ingage the part of his rail he wants to. 1st part of the carve/wrap is interesting. Mick's head leans ear to shoulder and helps him start the roll on rail for example.. what kelly said is on point (of course), so good to hear him brake down technique/ this is what a real coach should do.

"its the format that allows us to do it professionally" - but the trade off is entertainment value to the spectators watching abroad. They are ultimately the reason this keeps going. You could go on all day about this debate with the current tour.

If Barron gets the wildcard, he should refuse it, and let Slater get in. Separately, I had nearly the same surgery with the same doc. Just want to note - all my pain "felt" like it was in the back, and strangely, also in the knee but with no radiation from the hip. It felt like a knee injury because the brain literally mixes up the nerve signal, which was hard to believe. Surgery, for me, helped for a few years but I ended up needing a hip resurfacing, which is vastly superior to a traditional hip replacement. I have zero restrictions and can surf like normal. Do not get a traditional hip replacement without first deeply researching *modern* hip resurfacing.

Pipe should be the final contest like it always has been. It’s the proving ground of surfing. Carissa and trestles is like oil and water, they don’t mix. She’s a traditional Hawaiian surfer. The fact is if pipe was the final decider, Toledo would still have no titles and Carissa would’ve added 2 more. With the new format, for Toledo, not having to clinch the title at pipe has been a God send.

For the WSL world champion discussion, I’ve always thought they should do something like the tennis scene does. Have the world #1 crowned each season end based on points, and then have the world tour finals event held where the top 5 go into a shootout like the WSL does now. That event could have big prize money and gives spectators the stage to get together and watch, but doesn’t take away the efforts of the world #1 over the year. Seems like a good balance and both the finals and #1 spots offer up big career highlights for the athletes.
@aaronjosephs6233
@aaronjosephs6233 Жыл бұрын
Tennis has majors which are considered more valuable than the ATP finals event, in fact most casual tennis fans probably don't even know about the ATP finals but they definitely know about the majors (which was one of the ideas they suggested, to have standout events)
@philip-field
@philip-field Жыл бұрын
I agree that the majors are deemed more valuable than the ATP Finals, but that’s not necessarily the point I was making. Putting a aside the majors, a tennis player could technically end up World #1 at the end of the year without winning a single major. Granted, it would be quite unlikely but they could certainly be the most consistent and best performing player over a range of surfaces (I.e. say getting to semi final or losing in all finals on clay, grass, hard court). However, the ranking points for their wins would still reward their all round performance, much like Carissa did this year and last in surfing, being noticeably better across all conditions. Having a separate finals day with a massive prize purse, a different cup (it could actually be the Duke) and still a shoot out style event would still pull big crowds, create a great season end finale and provide any top 5 surfer with the ability to stamp their mark - it would just though honour the most consistent surfer that year by not losing their #1 status. It’s just an idea. I love in surfing how we have stories like Kelly’s 11 world champion wins, JJF doubling up, Steph winning 8. I just wonder if they’d be asked to win all of those on one shoot out event rather than on year round performances if we’d have these awesome stories that live on in the history of surfing (though Steph winning her last on the shootout was all time!). It’s a tough one.

@@Giggle-ing I wasn't sure, thanks for the info. I just ckd a slow motion air from the event and he was on a thruster. That being said, riding a quad for so long is probably the reason he can take the same feel/style to a thruster. I know doing a rebound/round house etc. on a quad is way different feel than a thruster as you carry a lot of speed through the maneuvers. I could definitely see how he could bring that back to the thruster just from muscle memory and make it somewhat work the same way. I've definitely been able to use what I feel on a quad and bring some of it over to a thruster.

I think he does also have those weird bones growth or calcified tissue bumps on his elbows... His entering in the Matt Hofmann theritoty but looks like Kelly is doing one of those others many out of water healing rehab and mental preparation: But he is clearly not ready to retire completely, AND I LOVE IT ❤🎉🦿🦾👏
