I met him several years ago at a comedy show at a casino in Northern Wisconsin, nicest guy...they said he had an hour after the show for pictures, at the hour mark there was still 40 people in line, he refused to leave until everyone got a picture and a handshake or hug. Then later that night he was in the hotel lobby chatting at the front desk and invited me over to listen to his stories, it was awesome hearing what he would tell about Adam, Chris and David especially.

Rob Schneider is best when he doesn't try so hard. He played Deuce Bigalow pretty straightforward and it worked really well. His small role as the landlord in Grandma's Boy is always one I think of, too. Just easy-going and actually seeming like he understood the role. Coming from where I come from I didn't see Schneider on SNL until years after I'd seen him in stuff like Dredd. And on SNL his copy-room/coffee room guy was sweet, even making lines about Sting looking for coffee. Then, suddenly he was trying to be the leading man in crap Sandler passed on. Oh, what a far cry from complaining he couldn't be on the field with Kathy Ireland and Scott Bakula. Also, he was flawless in Down Periscope. Then, many years later, I read about how his feud with Roger Ebert was actually more like an intervention and allowed him to step back and re-evaluate some of the decisions he had been making. Until I saw the films he had been appearing in. Dude seriously needed to break ties with Sandler. Nothing from that collaboration has reviewed well. Guy is way better than that shit.
