Back then we’d get teasers, 2-3 pre release singles that were all well promoted and given a music video, playlisting, and radio play, we’d also get an album announcement/trailer and tour announcement a couple months after the album. Nowadays it’s just a lead single announcement, album release 2-3 weeks later and MAYBE a tour and that’s it, we all move in the span of 2 months if that. We need to make album eras longer again

Kpop is having the same issues!! I used to be able to look at a photo of a group and tell you exactly what era it was from just by the member's hair/styling. Now they only promote each comeback for 2 weeks and then release the next comeback just within a few months. Groups are even dropping comebacks mid tour which is so confusing cuz you don't even have an idea of what the setlist is gunna be then. It's like we've hit the over consumption era of music, companies are pushing for quantity over quality and it's back firing cuz everyone is just content fatigued. I used to use music as a way to cope about working a shitty 9-5 but now keeping up with my favorite artists feels like a chore.

No offense but K-Pop has never been about quality or artistry, I don't remember his name but a few months ago one of the CEOs of one of those companies literally said that K-Pop is a business model and not so much a music thing, the fact that they usually have a "visual" in a group whose only job is to look pretty but barely can't sing says everything about that industry. The mass release of multiple albums during a year is also not a new thing, that has been happening since forever. I won't deny that there are talented idols that may create some actual good music but that's always the exception and not the rule.

absolutely, which translates to people being fake. They fake love something to appear a certain way. They do this with artists that are acclaimed too, they pretend to support because they want to be seen as music connoisseurs but they dont actually listen to their music more than once and sometimes not at all, what they do instead is tweet/comment about it, then you wonder why they are so loved online but the numbers are not reflecting the massive "love" online. Its all about appearances. The worst part is this fake love hurts the artists the most, cause they have a false sense of what the actual fans like and gives them false hopes. its cruel. i think with normani it was all rooted in what she went through with 5h and the discrimination, which also explains the camilla situation and your comment about the hate being reflected on streams and sales but not the love. They say they wanted normanis album but they didnt want her music deep down, they just used her pain as a way to victimize her so that they could tweet about how much they will support her cause shes a black woman and how much they will not support CC in return. In the end they lead on normani with the false idea that she would be received with love and excitement whenever she returned, only to realized people moved on to someone else

While I definitely concur that stan culture plays a part it’s also due to the artists themselves as well. Nobody promotes their music seriously anymore. Normani took 6 years to drop her album and then left it for dead. Not a talk show- hell not even a tweet. Ariana gave eternal sunshine a little bit of steam with the singles and remixes but it’s well known that wicked is her primary focus and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future. Beyoncé too, she’s well past the point of needing to do shows and performances for people to want to listen to her- but she did it too for Cowboy Carter. Just a tweet of the cover and a launch date. Charli is fr the only one not letting her album go to waste. She hops on tiktok and dances to the sound as soon as there’s an inkling it’ll become popular. Same with guess, now we have a Billie remix. Overall it’s a combo of things imo. Also part of the reason Ariana is who she is today is because of how that label made her work, you couldn’t walk 5 minutes without hearing problem or break free when they came out. They had her singing on stairs in Tokyo to Jimmy Fallon, no one does that anymore.

Cxoxo is honestly a really good album and Charli could’ve supported her and it could’ve been a moment for both of them, but she chose to cause just another hate train for Camila
@AdamZugone5 ай бұрын
To be fair tho the first information about Camila's new era was all very reminiscent of Charli. I was actually surprised when I listened to the album that it was very different from what I expected, because everything about I luv it - the name, the chorus lyrics, the font style used, the fact that it's such a different vibe comparing to Camila's previous work - it was all giving Charli, and then the album name C,XOXO, you read it and it just looks like Charli xcx. I get the meaning, but at a time where Charli is getting really mainstream it was on everyone's minds. I honestly think either it was on purpose to garner some attention or it was poor choices that made her look like she was trying to copy Charli's style.

Honestly I miss when albums actually felt like ERAS, with their teasers, promos, tours and everything. When artists released 1-2 maybe even 3 singles then the whole album and release another 1-2 singles after that, idk in a certain way it almost like it injected life into the album and made it feel ALIVE, think about albums like Dangerous Woman, 1989, Prism or Born This Way, they felt like true eras in the artists' career and today I feel they closest we've gotten is with Brat (Possibly with Short n Sweet too)

@@winkkplightit is an era but I feel like since Olivia isn’t as chart crazy or media crazy as other artists, she doesn’t really promote her music as much, like besides a couple performance on Kimmel and here and tehre, she doesn’t really promote as much, she just releases the album + a few mvs, and then just goes on tour and lets the music speak for itself. So like you don’t really see her like performing at award shows (besides the Grammys) like the vmas, or like on pap walks that often, she’s naturally a quiet person so I think she just stays to herself a lot.

SAME. as a swiftie, my biggest gripe with the new ‘eras era’ that Taylor is going through is that I feel like we really lost a crucial part of the previous album cycles which was the actual era, like remember during reputation or lover when she would change her whole instagram set up, hint teasers of what’s upcoming, even with midnight when she did midnights mayhem with me. I feel like we got NOTHIGN with ttpd besides the music and 1 mv, and that sucks bc I feel like ttpd is such an interesting album lore wise and even concept wise, and I would love to hear her thoughts about it, see the live performances, etc.

@thomashavard-morgan81815 ай бұрын
Streaming is really what killed ''the era'', if we go back to an album like Teenage Dream, you had two legitimate options physical or digital . It meant for the most part songs weren't heard before they were announced as singles, which gave time for them to rise organically. You would then need to also need to create a video and promote to sell that single. Now the whole album is available immediately and songs will go viral, or be heard, before they would ever have been considered for single treatment, so why spend money on a video or bother promoting, that costs money and time and the album is doing it's thing. Now also with streaming it's harder to get a hit post album, so we get like 3 singles beforehand, all the promo and videos and the album and the era ends, because music doesn't make money and it costs to promote and touring is where the money is and that's why era's like Charli are an exception not a rule.

@@parnianpalangbod Agreed, but I feel like there are a bunch of factors to this. One is that there are just too many releases and people can’t focus properly. Also, I think there’s been a major change in how YT filters “bot views”. Maybe they implemented this after the pandemic? And this is just from my observations, I’m not a massive streamer, I look at the video just the amount of times I need to process everything (song, choreo, visuals, looks, lyrics, etc,), so about 4 times more or less. And what I’ve noticed is that numbers fall just as fast as they rise. I remember watching Jimin’s Like Crazy and the views were dropping drastically to the point where his interview released after the MV had more views that the music video the fandom was waiting for for weeks. It was just nonsensical, that doesn’t happen like ever. It’s just sad because you know that both artists and everyone included in making the MV work so hard for it, they deserve recognition :(
