Some basic lore for you guys: The Targaryens belong to race of people known as Valyrians. They were an ancient superpower in this world (basically like Ancient Rome but with dragons), with silver hair, magical blood and an ability to ride dragons. But their entire civilization was destroyed in a mysterious disaster known as the Doom (volcanic eruption, like what happened in Pompeii) The Targaryens were the only dragon riding family to escape the Doom, because Daenys the Dreamer had a prophetic dream about it 10 years before it happened. So she told her dad, he believed her, and they decided to move their entire house to Dragonstone, an island near Westeros. When the Doom happened, the Targaryens were the only Valyrian dragon riding family left alive. The Velaryons are also Valyrians, but unlike the Targaryens, they weren't dragon riders (Valyrian society was divided into several classes, with drgaonriders at the top, and those who cant ride dragons in lower positions). The Velaryons were sailors, and after the Doom, they swore fealty to the Targaryens to gain more power. 100 years after the Doom, Aegon the Conqueror, had a prophetic dream about an upcoming apocalypse that is going to destroy the world of men. So he decided to invade Westeros, which was, at the time split into 7 kingdoms, to unite it and stop this future apocalypse. He was able to conquer the land with his two sisters, who were also his wives, Rhaenys and Visenya. All three of them were dragon riders. Targaryens pratice incestuous marriages, like the pharaohs of Egypt. Sometimes, they also pratice polygamy (multiple wives) but this is much rarer. The books imply this is because they want to keep their blood pure and maintain control over their dragons. As I mentioned, Valyrian blood is magical and gives the Targaryens the ability to ride dragons. Nobody else can do that and this why they've stayed ruling as kings for over 100 years-nobody is willing to mess with what is basically a medieval nuke. In this world, incest and polygamy are massive sins in the eyes of the Faith. So after Aegon the Conqueror died, the Targaryens got into serious trouble over it with the show's version of the catholic church. The Targaryens spent decades being at war with the faith until finally Jaehaerys I (the old king we saw in the opening of he first ep) made peace with them. He basically promised that the Targaryens would stop practicing polygamy, but managed to convince the faith to let them keep the incest. This is why Daemon asking to marry Rhaenyra is bad-it could start another war with the church.

I think daemons plan in the brothel was mostly to be seen together being intimate with rhaenyra so she would look undesirable to other suitors. Everything he did this episode was calculated to increase his chances of marrying her.

Daemon is an opportunist! Rhaenyra wasn’t supposed to return when she did so she wouldn’t have been there. I think he came back to be closer to his brother, without Rhaenyra around and finesse his plan. She was seen by enough people before he took her to the brothel but she said she wanted a night off from her destiny and then he took her there. I think Daemon is impulsive but he loves his family. We haven’t seen him so disheveled after a night of revelry I think he regretted going so far because his feelings are genuine for her. Viserys messed up though, you can’t be letting Hightower loose to do what he wants with all the information he has. Viserys should have made sure he couldn’t GOT style 🗡

The reason Daemon keeps calling his wife "Bronze B*tch" is because her house wears Bronze as their colors. I believe Daemon took her hat off so someone would recognize her, mess with her reputation a little so other lord would be hesitant to to ask for her hand, and in a way have Viserys forced to marry her off to him. And by doing that he would be able to rule thru Rhaenyra. I also believe that he cares deeply about Rhaenyra and it kind of messes with his little plan, and he actually really doesn't want to ruin her reputation, so he didn't go all the way with her.

The best thing Viserys could do is actually letting Daemon to marry Rhaenyra cause agree with it or not but Targaryens rulers could only work well if they were married into family members. The only issue here was that Daemon was already married but given his personality, I’m pretty sure he would’ve gotten rid of his bronze bitch anyway as long as it was benefiting him.

Just a curiosity from the books about the statment "a targaryen leadership should be a fighter": Some of the best Targaryen kings, wern't fighters. Among them: - Viserys II; - Daeron II, the Good; - Jaehaerys II; Some of the worst Targaryen kings, on the other hand, were fighters. Among them: - Maegor, the Cruel; - Aegon II; - Aerys II - the mad King (he wasn't such an acomplished warrior, but nonetheless he was a warrior that actually fought a war, when a young prince); There were good Targaryen warrior kings too (Aegon I, the conquereror, Jaehaerys I, not single combat fighter, but dragonrider fighter, or Maekar I, for instance).

Y’all were mostly right. Otto wasn’t spying on Rhaenyra, he was on Daemon. Daemon knew it and saw the opportunity to screw Otto with his own weapon while getting a dig at his brother. When Otto is looking up before he gives the news, he’s actually distraught. He knows delivering this particular message is going to be bad for him. Otto would never willingly over play his hand like this but because he’s hand he had to say something. If that news got to the king another way, still bad news for him. Daemon boxed him in nice.

It was all Daemon's plan. Notice how the boy who told Otto handed the money to Mysaria? Mysaria is also known in the novels as the White Wyrm. Daemon knew that now that Viserys has a son, his chances to be king is next to zero. Now, the only way for him to be king, or atleast King Consort is for him to marry Rhaenyra. Daemon knew Otto has spies everywhere, and that if he takes Rhaenyra to the pleasure house and have her virtue compromised, Viserys would allow him to marry her, at the same time exposed Otto's scheming against Rhaenyra in order to out his grandson Aegon to the throne. Daemon failed to wed Rhaenyra, but at least he managed to have Otto removed from office.

1:17 A lot of people interpret Rhaenyra and Daemon being the only ones covered in blood in the last episode as a symbol of them being worthy of the throne, which is quite easy to think of since the show is really building Daemon and Rhaenyra to be the "good side" right now. But it could easily be interpreted in another way that is negative to them. Like, with Rhaenyra and Daemon, the realm will be a lot more bloody because they are too unpredictable, hot blooded, and don't know anything about political maneuvering. Robert Baratheon was one of the greatest fighters of his time. Ned Stark was a great general. But look at what happened to them when they ruled.

For example, Rhaenyra was named as an heir, sure, but she doesn't do anything to get the high lords and ladies to her side. In ep 3 she trash talked a high lady, and instead of treating the high lords and gain more allies, she ran off to the woods. In this episode, the girl in the middle of rocklee and director is right, those suitors are still her subjects, and they're lords of their households. Being rude to them won't earn their support. She's too impulsive and hot headed, which is a sign of not being a good ruler. No amount of blood covering her face can change that. If prince Aegon's faction makes a move for the throne, who do you think they will support, him or the princess who was so rude to them?

But I disagree on daemon being the best person to have on the throne. he also doesn't have a good mind for political maneuvering. viserys so far have been the best king we saw after jaehaerys. aegon was strong but also knew how to compromise since he did offer rhaenyra very generous terms to avoid the civil war, so that tells me he has a good mind for politics and his queen-sister was beloved by the people. daemon has made too many enemies in his past, even though he did mature during the dance, those who he has spurned could not be appeased anymore, just like what happened to him when he tried to get resources from his dead first wife.

I like all 3 Targaryens. In Damon's position, it would be easier to kill his wife and then come to Viserys with a marriage proposal. And not after he dragged her into the city and left her on the street without guards, where she could easily be killed or raped. Viserys is not the best king, but far from the worst of the Targaryens. He's not a manipulative genius like Otto, but he's not an idiot either. He has reasons to keep his brother away from the throne and away from his daughter.

*Daemon's* *Revenge* *On* *Otto* *Over* *FAKE* *NEWS* People need to rewatch the scene when Daemon takes Rhaenyra to the public street orgies. It was planned by Daemon to get caught. You can see a brief scene with Daemon thinking by himself with his hoodie off. The next scene with him since the scenes are intercut with Alicent, Daemon takes off the beanie that Rhaenyra is wearing. This location is probably close to where Mysaria (White Worm) works or used to work. Then you see Daemon walk away from the sex with Rhaenyra. Then Rhaenyra walks out. A little kid is sitting there who works for Mysaria. How would the kid know Daemon and Rhaenyra had sex? He didn't see it. He sat near the stairs and recognized Rhaenyra walking out and then follows her. Then we see a scene between Daemon and Mysaria and Daemon spills out the drink immediately that Mysaria gives him. He probably assumes it's poison or unsafe since he is aware Mysaria is pissed at him. We see the same kid give Mysaria money that's likely from Otto. Daemon is slick. This was all planned to get Otto fired. This was revenge from Ep 1's "heir for a day" that got Daemon banished from King's Landing for 4 years. It's like a magic trick. The incest scene was our misdirection when what Daemon was really doing was wanting to get caught so Otto would get fired which he did. Viserys does listen to Rhaenyra and the rumor came from Otto's own mouth. So Rhaenyra points out about Otto's self-interests. Nobody witnessed Daemon and Rhaenyra having sex because it never happened! By firing Otto, he's trying to protect his and his daughter's public perception and showing that Otto is an unreliable source who is trying to slander their family. Blood is still thicker than water here. It's not like Viserys can fire his daughter. "The truth does not matter. Only perception." Even if Viserys believed Otto more, he'll support his daughter more. If Rhaenyra looks bad, then Viserys will look bad. Daemon didn't deny the accusations because he figured Viserys wouldn't believe him any way. And Daemon really doesn't care how others think of him and perhaps he really does want to marry her since the assumptions are that he did deflower her? The kid's false eyewitness claims got him fired. Otto needs to hire more accurate reporters. Not some kid "assuming" they did something that never happened while sitting near some stairs. I bet Mysaria got jealous hearing about it. Hence, the drink she was making to "cut the fog", Daemon made sure to spill it out. That used to be her MAN: "Daemon Targaryen. Rider of Caraxes. Daemon vs. Otto's Chess Matches Ep 1: Otto wins Ep 4: Daemon wins Score: 1-1 _ I think it's a good episode showing Daemon's weaker side. Ep 3 showed his bad*ss side. This is his vulnerable side. We can't expect Daemon to be bad*ss every episode. Like he's walking around and killing people left and right. He has layers to him. He's a human being. He has different sides to his character. This was Daemon's simp episode. He's a simp to his niece and he went limp to her as well. I think it's ok to show this side because Matt Smith has said Daemon is a fragile creature. There's this weird sensitivity about him and Matt wants to explore this. Not just show a bad boy who is also a great warrior. Not some dumb brute. If all it showed was Daemon being a bad*ss, then he's basically one-dimensional. The Hound is physically bigger than Daemon but he still showed a sensitive side to him. The more I rewatch this, the more I find this brilliant. We finally see Viserys showing his power and fearlessness. If Daemon wasn't hungover and if this was a different person like a non-relative, Daemon would fight back. This time, he doesn't. The tables are turned. It's Viserys showing his power and why he's the king while Daemon is on the ground completely helpless. Viserys, Daemon, and Rhaenyra all showed different sides to them here. Viserys showed more power. Controlled the room in every scene talking with Daemon, Rhaenyra, and Otto alone. Daemon showed vulnerability which is compassion to his family. Rhaenyra showed her wild side and pursuit for liberation as a female. Even saw growth from Alicent and Criston. These aren't cardboard cutouts. All made mistakes. All with different layers to their personalities. All this while Daemon still got Otto fired by finally playing the same game he played on him in Ep 1 by proving *third-party* *witnesses* *aren't* *always* *reliable.* _ *Is* *Daemon* *the* *Johnny* *Lawrence* *of* *HOT* *D?* I'm thinking he kinda is. I said kinda. They both can act like dicks full of insults and still be the most entertaining characters in their respective shows. Scene stealers. But with Johnny, he doesn't do enough evil stuff to make viewers hate him. Cobra Kai doesn't kill characters. Maybe flashbacks of Kreese in Vietnam, but that's it. Johnny is extremely flawed. Says the most inappropriate things to people. Un-PC. Stuck in the 1980s. Technologically inept. But he's still easily the most entertaining character in Cobra Kai since the very first episode. And you can see him trying to get better. I wouldn't watch the show if Johnny Lawrence wasn't so likeable. With Daemon, he's going to do things that will make you question your fandom towards him. You still haven't seen the worst of him. It's going to get much, much, much worse. By Sunday, he's going to sin again. Just wait. But at the same time, you still haven't seen the very best of Daemon either. This is how some fans might feel about Daemon after each episode... Fans: I love Daemon! Fans: I hate Daemon! Fans: I love Daemon again! Fans: I hate Daemon again! Fans: Ok, I love and hate Daemon! This is basically how he's written. I'm already seeing it in the comments. "Daemon was my favorite character. After this episode, he no longer is. LOL.” In one episode, you think what a despicable POS he is. How he could do such an awful thing? In the next episode, you'll be chanting his name, calling him such a bad*ss, and wanting to buy merchandise of him proclaiming he's your favorite character again. Love. Hate. Love. Hate. Love AND Hate. It seems Daemon's greatest weakness so far is anything to do with his niece and older brother. He would slay anybody else but he would balk if Rhaenyra shows up at Dragonstone or he would let his older brother kick him on the ground with a dagger held against his neck. And this might surprise some fans because Daemon can be so arrogant and fearless, but he does view himself as an underdog. He's a younger brother like a Prince Harry and Michael Jordan. Everything to him can be personal even from the pettiest slights. He's a walking contradiction. I never read Fire & Blood although I should since it's on my phone. I do know how it ends for all the major characters. All I can say is wait for The Battle Above The Gods Eye. Just keep watching and stop judging them after every episode. Too early. We haven't got to the good stuff yet. I promise you at the end of this series, you will once again say Daemon is your favorite character. What he does at the end is so BAD*SS!!! He will remind us all that he's the G.O.A.T. of ASOIAF like Michael Jordan 🐐 hitting that last shot in Utah back in 1998. The greatest final moments for a character you will ever see. Truly epic, heroic, and BAD*SS! _ I can't wait when Aemond shows up. Will be my 2nd fav ASOIAF character ever because he looks like a bad*ss like his uncle. I like the BAD MFERS of these shows. The killers and fearless warriors. The series finale should feature Daemon vs. Aemond, Caraxes vs. Vhagar to the death. It's going to be so epic. Will be Daemon's 1998 Michael Jordan moment. He's going to end the series proving he's the Greatest Of All-Time. Doesn't matter if you like Daemon or not. What he's going to do to a bad*ss MFer like Aemond is going to be legendary. It's like Michael Jordan beating a younger Kobe Bryant or LeBron James 1-on-1 with a final shot and waving goodbye while reminding us he's still the GOAT. Newbie like Akasan: I hate Daemon!
