Fun Fact: This thing is technically the first Soviet Jet irl, but Mikoyan had a better relationship with the Gov so they allowed him to fly out their jet "MiG-9" first. Thus, the MiG-9 became the first jet for the Soviet officially. But unofficially the Yak-15 is legit the first jet for the Soviets.
@TimsVariety7 ай бұрын
There are variations on the story ("coin flip at the airport" , etc) , but thats basically correct - the Mig-9 prototype flew first, but the Yak-15 entered service first.

IIRC the Yak-15P was also my first jet unlocked. Once I realized, or I think another great WT YTber (Long5hot, who unfortunately is no longer making videos) pointed out, that the Yak-15P is a great trainer not just as a jet trainer, but also as a trigger discipline trainer, I have become a fan of it and would recommend the Yak-15P to anyone actually wanting to get better at trigger discipline as well as learning how to fly a jet. Though granted compared to years ago, there are way higher tiered opponents.

The strategy of climbing to mid-altitude and engaging ground pounders or low enemy fighters is a good one, I usually either do that or just head straight in at low alt/high speed and try to kill the first few low flyers that show up, then once ammo is gone head back to reload and return at whatever altitude is needed for remaining enemies. Planes like this do teach you trigger discipline though, if enemies realise you've run out of ammo it's pretty hard to disengage and get back to base to reload.

1:55 While the type wasn’t ever used as a front-line fighter, there is some anecdotal data that suggests that some of these were deployed North of the Yalu River during the Korean War, and that UN pilots did (unofficially) shoot down a few that could not be credited because of strict rules of engagement forbidding combat over China’s side of the river. 2:31 Basically everything about this jet can also be translated to the Yak-17 (which is foldered with the Yak-15s), as it is a later derivative of this airframe. 8:27 This plane is like a mullet: jet business in front, Yak-3 party in the back!
@miquelescribanoivars50495 ай бұрын
IIRC the Yak-17 was often used as a conversion trainer, chances are that it was those, not 15's the one that UN pilots may had encountered.

I've found this jet to be nigh-unbeatable as a prop plane in Ground RB. The gamemode basically requires you to stay low for either doing CAS or intercepting CAS, which makes this thing's energy and speed issues fairly negligible. Even other jets tend to lose if the Yak-15 doesn't take head-ons. It's very good as an anti-CAS pick.

After going through the suffering that is the Japanese tree after WW2, I went through the Russian one next and the Yak15 was one of the worst jets to fly. I was not having any fun using it with the absurd single gun and was rushing to get to something else. The only saving grace for it was its insane turn and loop-rate in arcade. There you'll have slightly more fun with it, but i'd recommend getting the pilot upgrades to make reloading faster.

Gotta do a 360 no scope shot professional gamer mode with this thing cause its such a let down in the gun section so hopefully whoever you are that plays this plane is a crack shot and hits the target on the first shot every time cause holding down the trigger won't be an answer for you. The next Yak17 hmmm a tiny bit better but expect similar things from it. All though I thought this was the first Yak15 the SP for a minute in the video. That first Yak15SP is a tough one compared to this Yak-15 and that SP is where the real fun begins to get to warm ya up for this Yak15 and then 17 and talk about real LOW ammo count HaHa that's rough on the Yak15SP.

I showed a little VR in a vid I posted about "How I make my aircraft reviews" and I also have a full VR sortie up somewhere, but the TLDR is that my capture setup doesn't grab the VR footage very well, and it comes out looking REALLY shakey and low-quality. I also included some VR footage in my Mig-29 review (discussing the HMD), and you can see what I mean that it records like shit.
