They made it a point to let the audience hear them say Aang instead of Ong, they do care lol. Avatar the last air bender and legend of kora have one of these best super power/magic systems in modern story telling. It’s simple, but can expand to include so many extra abilities. Visually, it leaves so much room for dynamic scenes (with darkrooms being only lit by fire strikes, like a horror movie almost. Or have an earth bender just rotate a town square like in inception).

Omg Jay actually mentioning One Piece and indicating that they've watched it. It's pretty wild that the bar everyone keeps bringing up as the standard live action anime adaptations should aim for is the show with the animatronic snail phones and wacky themed pirate costumes.

If you see a Guillermo Del Toro class or a movie with director’s commentary, there’s this thing he does that’s filling you with the textures of the world, and putting a lot of effort into making more than half of the things you see real and the rest CGI, so you can meet half way with scenography props and and, in that case, animatronics. I’m not saying it’s the only way, but they did it with this trailer. Have you seen the gigantic moving sets for Pacific Rim? The actors said it was super tiring, but he cared for them all the way. ❤

I think what made the OG Avatar special was how they laid the foundation and managed to tie everything together at the end and mixed it with memorable episodic moments like the tales of Ba Sing Se. If they manage to keep that formula whilst condensing it and making it a little darker when necessary (as most of the fan base are much older now) it’ll be amazing.

So… the anime, season (book) one, was 20 episodes, roughly 24 minutes each, which works out to about eight hours in total. Netflix live action is eight episodes, one hour long each… Are we about to get a frame for frame remake here? Cuz it could be a frame for frame remake! That’s nuts and I’m so excited.
@mrsfahrenheit10 ай бұрын
sadly not from what I've heard they will have completely new story elements as well. Like the show will start differently and show the genocide of the airbenders and they will allegedly have a new Ozai and Azula plot which I'm honestly not too hyped about because it's unnecessary to have them both in the first book anyways in my honest opinion. I don't know but to me story telling wise the animated show was perfect but I also understand that a live action adaption will never be a 1 to 1 because they for one want to include own creative elements and two because many would say a 1 to 1 adaption is a bad adaption because that way its existence in the first place feels useless. I will give it a chance, maybe the changes will make sense for the story they want to tell in the live action. I just hope we won't be getting too much from the second book in that first season, there definitely is enough material in the first book to be adapted

After this trailer I’m hyped. When I heard that the creators walked away from the show to form Avatar Studios, I was a little worried. My relationship with Avatar is interesting; I stayed away from it for a long time because of the Shyamalan film (even as a kid I wasn’t interested) and my inability to distinguish it from James Cameron’s Avatar which I also don’t care for. When I did see the show I was blown away and it is now in a large as one of my favorite shows of all time.

@@chazo1367 I think it was the Netflix show's director who recently stated in an interview that they're not adapting the story 1:1, meaning the story isn't going to follow the exact story beats in the animated show, except the most important ones. So it sounds to me more like the creators left because *Netflix* wanted to change things and they didn't, not the other way around. (Which is especially crappy after Netflix publicly announced how they were going to "honor the creators' visions.") We don't know exactly why they left beyond what each said in their public statements about it. So any rumors are just conjecture
@Dilligff10 ай бұрын
There was an interview with, I believe it was Konietzko, a while back that either got buried or overlooked explaining what happened. The departure was almost strictly a business related one as they were promised full creative control, or essentially final cut, and a few months in they learned otherwise. This meant that the potential for interference was there, and with other projects in the fire they didn't want to risk tainting those should something go amiss. It doesn't mean that it had or it would, but it was a risk they were unwilling to take. Kim had been working with them already and after their departure he still consulted with them despite their 'unofficial' involvement. I trust Kim in this case because he felt intimidated by the task. I'd rather place my bets on someone who is afraid of getting it wrong, than somebody that is confident it will be good because it shows that he actually cares for what has come before. And from what I've seen and heard so far it is looking really damn good.

Previously you guys mentioned that this series would likely have the fat trimmed out of it. Regardless of whether you agree or disagree about any of ATLA being “fat”, if they do 8 1-hour episodes that would be more content than the first season of the animated show. So if anything they would need to add fat to the show in order to stretch it out to 8hours of content.

This show lives or dies on the skills of young actors, and from what I’m seeing in this trailer, I have hope for this. Sokka, Aang, and Zuco feel good in this trailer, but I’m going to need to see more Katara to form an opinion on her actor. She looked a little stiff in the scenes they showed, but that’s pretty limited. The choreography of the fights and bending look great, the cgi looks solid, especially with closeups though some of the wide shots look a little unfinished as of yet. Overall, I’m excited to see how this plays out.

@uosdwiSrdewoH10 ай бұрын
OK, so, I read that they were going to cut some stuff out of the live action version so it can fit the 8 episodes. But with 8 hour long episodes that's 480 minutes. Let's say 10 minutes of credits for each episode. That's 420 minutes. The total runtime for the animated series with 20 episodes running 21 minutes each (runtime minus opening narration and closing credits) is 420 minutes. They have enough time to put everything in if they want unless they're planning on doing something different. If they have any sense they won't. So are we just getting a shot for shot remake?

Since it looks like they’re nailing the plot and characters the only thing I can think is that they had thematic difference. I hope they don’t lean hard into the “chosen one” stuff or western dominance nonsense that tends to end up in Hollywood movies instead of the very eastern kindness-based themes of the series. We’ll see, I suppose, but this does look fantastic.
