Okay so, a few things to clear this up (hope you'll read this; also strap in, this got rather long): First of all, the pokemon ranger games play pretty much in a different universe from the normal pokemon games (there's a few crossovers, but meh). This means basically: no gyms, no league structure. No pokeballs. No pokemon-on-pokemon fights. Pokemon are usually all wild, only hanging out with humans in a friendship- or petlike realtionship. This leads us to the following: the rangers. They are like a peacekeeper unit for the regions. They use their stilus ("friendship circles") to channel/send their emotions to other pokemon to calm them or befriend them. That's why there is a system where you can only use each captured mon once (either to clear an obstacle in the overworld or to assist you in battle with their friendship) and then they are released back into the wild. Also, not everyone can become a ranger, you need a special amount of kindness and emphaty to connect with the different mons. It's kinda like the jedi, just not with force but THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP. The only exception to this rule are the evil teams (team dim sun in this case). They usually have some special devices to just hypnotize or override the pokemon's brains, making them slaves to their bidding. Rangers can then undo this with their FRIENDSHIP to free them from their enslavement and release them back into the wild. So that's how that works. No stealing pokemon, only freeing them or taking them with you for a short time for their help (btw you also can't remove pokemon from their original habitat). Also "battling against dim sun members" really means that they send their pokemon slaves to attack you, the player character, directly. You then have to "catch" them (the mons) with your stylus to calm them down and stop the from literally harming you. Yeah, the ranger games are a little darker from time to time. Just wanted to give a bit of inside into the lore as a huge fan of all of those games. Ps. Yes, all of my ds' bottom screens have a severe case of circle markings.

@@YoBGS The stylers actually don't work (as well, I should say) on Pokémon caught in standard issue Pokéballs. 90% of the time, a Ranger's job is to prevent large scale damage from rampaging wild Pokémon, stop PokéPoachers from illegally stealing truckloads of Pokémon from their natural habitats (basically, prevent them from disrupting ecosystems. Even if a group of 5 kids all came through a forest and caught three Pokémon each, they'd have to encounter those 'mon, and Pokémon SPECIFICALLY challenge Trainers if they WANT TO BE CAUGHT. So scooping up a hundred Slowpoke is bad, but a Slowpoke being caught is alright). Dim Sun is poaching via hypnosis. Therefore, the friendship loops work. If a Ranger tried to friendship loop a legitimately caught Trainer's Pokémon, the loops would fail. A good way to think of it is like this: Pokéballs require a certain level of willingness from both sides (that moment when Random Encounters are supposed to be taken as implicit consent from the Pokémon, oof). Friendship Loops supercede consent because they're not asking "be mine so I can train you", they're saying "calm down and gimme a hand for a second, then we can go our separate ways."

So, the "friendship loops," as Jaiden calls them, are less energy ropes and more... actual energy; each completed loop sends friendship energy to the Pokémon within it. Capturing an enemy Pokémon basically releases them from the enemy's control. So it's less bondage and more... convincing them to help you/not be with the bad guys.

In the world of Pokémon Ranger, no one owns Pokémon, so no, you're not stealing anyone's Pokémon. Nor are you keeping any, anyway - Pokémon Rangers are trained to be, well, rangers - which means they're responsible for keeping nature stable and healthy. They're looking after the wild Pokémon, but they're also trying to disturb them as little as possible. Rangers have a special device called the Capture Styler - however, it doesn't 'capture' Pokémon in the way you're used to from the main line games. With the styler, you spin circles around the Pokémon you wish to capture - and Aiden was right to call them "friendship loops", because they make the Pokémon friendly towards you. It will stick around for a while, maybe do one simple task for you, but after that, it will disappear back into the wild. Team Dim Sun, on the other hand, uses the Shadow Crystals to brainwash the Pokémon and make them obey their command. By capturing them with your styler though, you can break the mind control, which allows those wild Pokémon to escape back into their natural habitats. The only Pokémon that sticks with you throughout the game is your partner-Pokémon (Plusle or Minun), and that's simply because it's your friend and it wants to stay with you, not because you caught it in a Pokéball or anything like that. No one is forcing it to be here. Here's a little fun fact, btw: Back in the Gen 4 days (Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, to be specific), if you wanted to get that elusive Manaphy egg, you had to first complete a quest on Pokémon Ranger to get it (I'm pretty sure that was only on the first Ranger game though, not the sequels), and then transfer it over to your main line game! ,,,well, that's the non-action replay way to do it, anyway. ;D (And yes, my lower DS screen is _very_ circle-y. It's been years since I've played a Pokémon Ranger game, but they definitely left their imprint on my poor DS, haha😂 Even when you're trying to be careful not to press too hard, some capture missions are easier said than done, and you only make it through with gritted teeth and _very_ quick loops (especially the first game had some brutal captures), which means you can't really afford to go easy on your screen at the same time. :'D)
@BenMaguireLONEWOLF99893 жыл бұрын
Plusle or minun is only the first game. Shadows of Almia allows fro a lot more potential partners such that by the end of the game, I think there's a partner for every type. Guardian signs only has one, which is known as "Ukelele Pichu" Manaphy was available from all the ranger games, it was one of the incentives Nintendo gave to get them. The only caveat is that at least in Shadows of Almia, it was a limited time access mission.

If I remember correctly, all of the Pokemon in the game are wild and thus you’re not really stealing them or anything. No one necessarily owns the pokemon, it’s just that they either decide to help you (because of the loops) or decide to help the people you’re against (due to being hypnotised). The crystal and devices are honestly similar to the shadow ball in the movie ‘Celebi: The Voice of the Forest’ without capturing the pokemon and changing their level. With Minecraft KZbinrs, I highly recommend Fundy and Skeppy. Both are on the Dream SMP (though, Fundy’s more involved in the story). I recommend any of Fundy’s videos (especially ‘I made every block extremely slippery (ft Wilbur Soot)’) as long as it’s not ‘I went on a date with Dream...’ and ‘So I hunted Dream...’ because those are part of a side plot in the Dream SMP called The Dreamon Hunters. For Skeppy, I recommend the videos showing how he and Bad became friends. (In order: I applied for staff on a server and this was the interview..., BadBoyHalo Banned Me For Ping Spoofing..., I went undercover to get in a call with the owner... he was so mad, he cried when we got him to 100,000 subscribers) or the newest one (I donated $50,000 to BadBoyHalo). Their friendship is just the most wholesome thing ever and well worth a watch (even if it’s not in a reaction video). If you’d like a new game to react to, DisguisedToast makes really good Among Us videos showcasing big-brain plays. Speedruns in Among Us don’t really exist since speedrun.com rejected the game but some people like to ‘speedrun’ tasks/finding the impostor and the basis would be how many meetings they went into as opposed to the time.

I'm wondering why people seem to have more patience for 2D cutscenes than the cutscenes in sun and moon or sword and shield? In the older games you still get stopped to look at dialogue and the sprites moving around doing things. So I don't really get it? I don't get bothered by any cutscenes though.
@krystaloftheshores4 жыл бұрын
Same. I really liked the cutscenes in Sun and Moon (and Ultra), because I liked seeing more of the story besides just scrolling through text. It makes the game feel more real. Although I kind of preferred the story in Sun and Moon than in Ultra, just because the evil Lusamine arc was a lot deeper than what i was used to in previous games. I guess some people prefer gameplay over story. Makes me kinda sad though, cuz the story makes sense of a lot of things that happen in a game. HOWEVER, for those trying to soft reset for a shiny starter or a particular gender, it’s agony to go through the starter Pokémon cutscene every time.

Rangers dont capture pokemon. Unlike trainers the partners they have arent bound to them and they are only allowed 1 or 2 partner pokemon. so. the capture mechanics are actually very much canon. the pokemon rangers are kind of like the police and the national animal foundation combined. they look out for the wild and do police stuff. most of them also have an uncaptured partner pokemon. what the stylers do is subdue a pokemon without actually capturing it, what probably enables them to control captured pokemons (though i don't think they can, the evil team very well might be using wild pokemon).

Friendship loops make Pokémon friendly and/or bring them back to their senses. They’ll help you out a bit before returning to their natural habitat. Contrast that with pokeballs which are essentially indefinite servitude. Actually, if you want to talk game mechanics, befriending a pokemon normally causes them to help you out (follow you around a while, clear obstacles, break things if you want). But, iirc, if they’re under the control of a Gigaremo, they’re no longer aggressive, but they immediately run off. This makes breaking gigaremos pretty tricky, and makes your encounters with Dim Sun more like pokemon trainer battles compared to wild battles. But Dim Sun didn’t catch their pokemon either, they’re all hypnotized with gigaremos.

Your DS screen should be fine even after 100 runs of Ranger. The screen was BUILT for that kind of abuse, assuming you don't press down into the screen with the might of Zeus 24/7. Also, Jaiden really undersold the battle system in her video. The pokemon you (temporarily) capture in each area can affect both your styler loops and the pokemon you're trying to capture in various ways, as well as those same pokemon having field effects (i.e. Cut/Strength type stuff). You don't "catch" pokemon so much as you use your Styler to recruit them temporarily (up to a certain limit), and have to release them when you leave that area (since you're a ranger, you're basically a warden of nature and have to keep the natural balance). For the evil team's pokemon, you typically just use your Styler to make the pokemon break free from the control of the evil team, I don't recall ever being able to keep those pokemon. I do wish Jaiden had touched a lot more on gameplay because, well... it's incredibly different from a mainline game, and I think anyone who hasn't played a Ranger game before might get some very wrong ideas from the video about how the game plays.

I'm guessing she meant it as a running joke and didn't realize people would take it seriously.

About the magic mcguffins.. 3 and 7 are magic/lucky numbers so they are the most familiar. 4,5, 6, 8, 9 are also pretty common in games, though. .But mostly they give a clear sense of progression and indication of how far along you are in the games story (like chapters). There are no gym leaders in this context! And none of the pokemon were captured or kept the loops of friendship on, that was just a funny visual gag for the animation. The loops shared feelings of friendship and calmness basically, which is how you either broke pokemon free from Dimsun's gigaremo-induced control... or you recruited wild pokemon to (temporarily) help you out! Once they help you, they go back home. Partner pokemon are exceptions to that though. They're ones that bond closer to you than others and stick by your side. You can switch between them at home. 7:45 yes this actually happens. My dad used to be a dean for a boarding school dormitory and the first year we lived there a bunch of kids busted into his office with hockey gear on. (Yes I live in Canada) and dragged him out of there (he put up a really good fight), down the hall to the boys bathroom, and tossed him in the shower.

7:50 I think it was originally a thing at colleges with fraternities and sororities but if they do do it anymore it’s much more stupid prank junk, and that trope just kinda seeped into “school you live at in general”

I like to think of the “friendship loops” as being line how Aquaman’s powers are traditionally shown. Energy pulse-looking things fly out from Aquaman (representation of him telepathically communicating with marine life), the creature/creatures perform an action and then they leave. Similarly, Pokémon you loop can perform actions and are then released immediately if I remember correctly. You don’t catch them so much as form temporary bonds.
@JJ-ml7pq3 жыл бұрын
Oh, also- the bad guys aren’t catching Pokémon, either. Those “Gigaremo” doodads just mind-control local Pokémon. They want to build the massive tower thing to boost the area of effect.

Hey I got a recommendation for you if you like or are interested in Tabletop RPGs. JoCat’s Crap Guide to D&D videos. There are longer videos for things like Alignments, Races, etc., but the videos for the classes are like 2 and a half minutes each, so you could plow through all of them in one go!

I heard you were thinking of making an SMP (survival multi player) . There are two types of SMP’s. One where it’s “friends only” or it has a specific theme (like SMPearth is a recreation of planet earth) or a public SMP, it’s pretty much an SMP anyone can play like fans.
@wesleypatterson29893 жыл бұрын
These are definitely great games! To answer your question about the catching, from what I remember, once you capture a Pokemon, it will follow you around until you beat whatever mission your currently doing. You can use them to do certain things, like I remember one mission where you use a Wartortle to help put out a forest fire.

It is weird how the last 3 Gens made their story's edgy, yet the game mechanics are clearly made for kids. With the attacks labled as effective, none or very effective. Like, dude, those weren't there in 1999 and the kids back than still managed! Just once I want a game with both an adult story and game mechanics on the same level as "legends of Zelda"! {Assassines Creed might be asking for to much}

I never thought of it that way but you’re so right. It’s a kids game still but the plot has matured a bunch

Hiw the friendleness loops work is it calms pokemon down. And in the game, you only own 1 pokemon. It the pokemon at the start which bonds with you. The other pokemon you loop and they help you out, but its againced ranger code to take those pokemon out of the the area you caught them in

I played Pokémon Guardian Signs as one of my first Pokémon games as well as Pokémon Heart Gold. There’s something about the way Guardian signs is told reminds me the closest of the cartoons. Also you can summon Entei and Raiku and stuff and you have a Ukulele Pichu as your partner

If it's wild Pokémon, you can take up to 7 Pokémon with you, until you use them either in a capture or to destroy an obstacle. If they are controlled, they will simply go back into the wild.

I have a theory that the Pokemon Ranger stylus does exist in the same world as capture balls and represents technology/government authority to override the control of pokemon and free pokemon. It's presented in a cute way because kids game, but it makes sense that there would be a government authority that could remove pokemon from criminals.

In pokemon rangers, you can't actually catch the pokemon permanently. There are apparently no gyms in the region and the rangers are kinda the police force. The player can make friends with them and is able to keep them for a temporary amount of time. They can only use a pokemon once for their special skill and after that they are released. The only exception is a partner pokemon. Which is kinda like your best friend and is permanent. Oh yea, stylers (the friendship loop thingy) are only issued exclusively to rangers. So they are not sold openly like guns.

The scratching of the touchscreen is due to the 'rate of loops made' to 'paying attention to stylus pressure' balancing each other out in favor of the former. It's not too bad, though.
