The hit cartoon makes it to the big screen, and we're so glad? Nostalgia Critic looks over the "live action" version of Yogi Bear.
Yogi Bear is a 2010 American 3D live-action/computer-animated family comedy film directed by Eric Brevig, produced by Donald De Line and Karen Rosenfelt, written by Brad Copeland, Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia and based on the animated television series The Yogi Bear Show and the character created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. The film stars Dan Aykroyd, Justin Timberlake, Anna Faris, Tom Cavanagh, T.J. Miller, Nate Corddry and Andrew Daly with narration by Josh Robert Thompson.

Thats the Problem with Celebrities, a lot of them don't take animation seriously. People Assume it's a good idea because of the Genie in Aladdin, but the truth is most celebrities don't have the passion of Robin Willams, James Woods, or even Justin Timberlake in this film.

So the reason Justin Timberlake did such a good Booboo voice is because he’s an animation enthusiast and so really wanted to get that voice right. Dan Ackroyd on the other hand couldn’t care less about the Yogi character and thus just barely phoned it in. Some of Daws Butler’s former students of his voice acting school sent Mr. Ackroyd an old recording of Daws explaining how he approached doing Yogi’s voice. Sadly, Dan completely ignored that and just half heartedly gave that performance of his. I avoided this movie for that reason alone.

This is pretty much why it's going to be a LONG time until we get good live action anime movies. Because making a good movie requires passion and and a desire to do the original justice. And it's going to be about another 20 years before the people running Hollywood are made of people who even know what anime is.

Eevee Ikr? It's like they forgot she's Yogi's girlfriend like Arlene is Garfield's girlfriend and it felt like they forgot about that in the live action movies of that, I mean she was in the first one but she didn't have much of a role or any proper moments with Garfield where they kiss plus I didn't know at first she was in there but she didn't look like her like they didn't bother making her pink and for sure they basically focused on the relationship of Jon and Liz which is now already a thing in the later comic strips which simply came outta nowhere since Liz was never interested in Jon back in the past while Arlene ALWAYS loves Garfield.

I just realized, almost every live-action movie based classic cartoon characters has, in some way, involved the characters losing their home or generally having their way of life threatened by a real world problem. Instead of "a fucking witch in the woods" or something as equally fantastical as a goddamn talking bear/moose/cat/whatever, it's just the threat of deforestation or big business buying out the area. Hell, even Space Jam had BOTH threats, what with the alien tycoon wanting to destroy the land of the Looney Tunes and enslaving Bugs and the gang. I think only one of the Casper films involved the threat of home destruction, though that at least kind of made sense given how ghosts have to be tied to a physical location or whatever. Meanwhile, the first film had silly nonsense like bottles of fucking Ecto-Cooler Hi-C that could turn ghosts back into flesh and blood people. Oh, and it's been said that Justin Timberlake was a pretty big fan of Yogi and Booboo, so he worked his ass off on the impression. Danny boy, like Bill with Garfield, just did the bare minimum to sound like their assigned character. Shame, considering the two had plenty of successes outside of Ghostbusters, yet can't seem to deliver a good performance for a kid's flick. Meanwhile Raul Julia, Frank Langella, and even Christopher Lee each did a kid film at some point and KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK with their performances.

To be fair, the Transformers films always have the Decepticons (evil shape-shifting robots from a metal planet) as the main threat, and both Scooby Doo films had some kind of fantastical element (Scrappy Doo replacing people's souls with demons and costumes from the cartoon given life by an unexplained science thing).
@Darkman9000
@Darkman9000 6 жыл бұрын
That's different though, those are the core essence of both franchises (warring bots and mystery solving teens). When it comes to just about every other cartoon adaption, it's just some boring stop the evil business man. Likely, it's just the film writers giving the supporting live-action characters a believable situation they can take part in, even though they're teaming up with a CG abomination that barely resembles the actual animals they're based on.

DalekTheSupreme True, but thing is, since I realized this trend, I just see it everywhere now! Not only in bad live action movies(fuck, even the Flinstones, Rocky and Bullwinkle and this "thing" did it!) but in almost every kids or environment friendly flicks like Nines Lives and yeah, it's terrible but why in the fuck we have business men talking for twenty minutes again? About who have the tallest di... Hem! The tallest building? Kids don't care, I don't care, NO CARES ANYMORE! Its been done to death... I didn't put Mr. Magoo but rethinking the plot it has diplomatic shenanigans so yeah, another real problem with guys in suits but we just don't see them much and it's technically a heist movie. Garfield did the business man stealing Odie(of course, why would it be about Garfield being cynic it's too close to the source material or what?) There's also another movie that came to my mind but I forgot due to my ADD being triggered by my very long comment... 😑

+anik monette Like I said, it's probably some idiotic logic of "Well, we may have a CGI talking cat/bear that still looks like a cartoon with creepy realistic fur. Surely we can't have the human characters get into hijinks like them, now can we? No, let's throw in the corrupt politician/businessman looking to ruin the lives of the beloved cartoon character we just butchered by giving puketastic fur textures and a celebrity voice that's more phoned in than phone sex! WE'LL BE RICH!" I mean heck, Who Framed Roger Rabbit? is probably the only instance of having iconic cartoon characters (even if the Disney/Looney Tunes ones were just cameos for the most part) teaming up with real people and they actually toyed with how the two kinds interacted. Some humans were just palling around with toons and having good times, and then there's those like Hoskin's character who just can't stand them but tries to get work done regardless. Of course, I really just don't get the interest in taking cartoon characters and trying to make them pseudo-realistic beings. Either just do a damned cartoon, or make the characters completely real like they did in Flintstones and Fat Albert. Making the cartoons seem sort of real while everything else isn't is just jarring.

He was growing into middle age, and was living then in a studio on Chicago IL. He installed himself in a executive chair and smoked a cigar down in the evenings as his brother Rob wiped his hands on an apron and reported happily on their two children Tamara and Malcom. His children knew his winy voice, the sting of his critiques against their ears. They knew how their father made his living, and why they so often moved locations. They even know their father's name. He was listed on the internet as Nostalgia Critic. And he went everywhere recognized and lunched with shopkeepers and merchants, calling himself a critic or comedian, someone somewhat rich and leisured who had the common touch. He had two incompletely healed bullet holes in his chest and another in his thigh. He was missing the top of his hair and was cautious, lest that mutilation be seen. He also had a condition that was referred to as "granulated eyelids" and it caused him to blink more than usual as if he found creation slightly more than he could accept. Rooms seemed louder when he was in them. Rains fell straighter. Clocks slowed. Sounds were amplified. He considered himself a mid-western loyalist and guerrilla in an internet film Civil War that never ended. He regretted neither his Barts nightmare, nor the seventeen murders of good taste that he laid claim to. He had seen another summer under in Chicago City, IL and on February 30th in the year 2018, he was thirty-six-years-old...

Paul Mulkey what is the story behind that scream
@TheWookiee89
@TheWookiee89 6 жыл бұрын
The Wilhelm scream is a stock sound effect of a man screaming that has been used in 372 movies and countless television series, beginning in 1951 for the film Distant Drums. from wikipedia not sure if the total number of films is accurate could need updating

Paul Mulkey The worst movies I can recall the scream being used is The Star Wars Holiday Special and I don't remember it by full name but it's the last Twilight... Apparently even vampires needs the Willhelm screams for their craptastic fight scenes... Yet I'm sure I've heard it in even crappier movies!

The funniest use of the scream was in Sing, due to the context of the joke. There is a bull named Richard who is asked to leave because he is farting too much. Then, we hear a sound that could be interpeted as the bull pooping his pants, but cue the scream, and we find out he actually stepped on a snail named Ray. The bull is so shocked at what he did, he runs out of the theater, farting! I know it was mostly toilet humor, but I found how they averted the “he pooped his pants” joke by making it something more unexpected!

I was dismayed that Critic didn't point out how the park could have made money off Yogi and Booboo being walking talking bears instead of hiding them. They could be fed with picnic food in exchange for performing for the public. Also Yogi and Booboo were going to leave the festivities alone until Assistant Ranger told them that Ranger Smith was depressed about the park losing money and "shoveling dirt into his apartment'. Unlike other instances, Yogi and Boo boo were genuinely trying to help the park and Ranger Smith. It made me mad watching the film and no one name drops the Assistant Ranger's involvement or if Ranger Smith even suspected foul play. That would have made the film more interesting and have Ranger Smith fight government corruption head on. If anything, Assistant Ranger should have gotten more flak for the fireworks fiasco since he did directly think of and go to Yogi to ruin the event and was sabotaging the event outright.The park going south since he obviously wasn't prepared to run it and believes he's a cop in a forest doesn't ever get brought up. Putting the blame solely on Yogi for everything that went wrong was uncalled for but standard kid movie behavior. There is no way one bear is costing the park $33,000 in debt. Something else is happening that no one is acknowledging.

Yes. Rare. I.E. They could have done this plot with Yogi and Booboo instead of the contrived frog mouth turtle
@animeotaku307

Yeah. And then the movie could be the villains trying to capture Yogi and Boo Boo so that the park would lose its main source of revenue. And have that be alongside Anna Farris trying to film the documentary. And have a bunch of slapstick for the villains' attempts. It's not original at all, but it's better than this film.

Y'know, Yogi and Booboo look quite good in this. The realistic CG seems to work well with their designs, much like the Chipmunks. However, the Smurfs looked awful... I would say maybe furry cartoon characters are best for this look, but then there's Garfield...
