My wife, daughter, and I were at the Ramesey live recording of this show today. Finally got to shake Dave's hand today and also met his daughter Rachel in the back. My wife and I have completed baby step 6 and paid off our house a year ago. His teachings 100% work and we are near millionaire status now (I'm 34 and my wife is 35). I would recommend listening and working through the baby steps and NOT being arrogant enough to think you can outsmart this plan. It works and my wife and I are proof of this. Thank you Dave for your Biblical wisdom stated practically.

I love the concept of paycheck to purpose. I work in the mental health field. I couldn't imagine doing anything different. Within the field there are a variety of roles. I started out working with adults in group homes, and my whole day was watching TV, cooking, and helping them with ADLs. It was boring and I longed to be more than just a body, but it paid well. Then I worked with folks with developmental disabilities, which was more rewarding but the pay and the hours left me broke and eating peanut butter sandwiches for all my meals. The financial stress wasn't worth the passion I had for the job. Now I work with kids at a crisis unit. I work 40 hours in 3 days, have 4 days off a week, and make enough to live on my own with a cat, do recreational hobbies and still save some money each month. The job is challenging, but I have plenty of moments, at least one a shift, when I am reminded why I love my job. It's a goldilocks job. I could get paid 5 bucks more an hour if I wanted to work with higher acuity kids inpatient and do hands on restraints all day. But instead we are hands off, do really intentional work, and I get paid to bake, play, and teach skills that will make a difference.

I bought a 1400sqft fixer upper for $38,000 with a personal loan form lending tree. My payment was $850 at 5 yrs and i was also paying extra to the principle. I later I got my credit score up and transferred the loan to a teachers credit union personal loan at a lower interest rate,, now $950. Now i have $12,400 to go on my mortgage or personal loan. Didn't mess with mortgage companies or banks! I have the deed to my home and thats the best part! What others have done in 15 or 30yrs, I was able to do it in 3.8 or something! 6 motorcycles and 5 vehicles, all paid for with $70k before taxes. Never loose hope, just keep going and you'll get there!

"after finding out that my ex girlfriend was untruthful"...dude...how tf are you blaming her for your violence?! This is a once and future abuser given his victim blaming mentality. I could never hire someone who blames a woman for lying as a reason to beat her/verbally abuse her/financially abuse her....what a terrible approach to life. Ken gave excellent advice.

I never understood why some people can't accept that some people have a different investing philosophy. Dave has his and a lot of people have theirs. It all gets you to the same place. The thing is, I'm a big indexer. But I adhere to having some in aggressive growth indexes. I have a total market index, An OTC index, and a growth index. The OTC and growth indexes have absolutely obliterated the total market index the past 10 years. They have average 20% while the total market was 15%. Still all great returns. But I'm glad I have been more aggressive in my investing.

The caller didn't have any tact---but in all fairness Dave has had his share of calling people who DIY investing "stupid" for going without help from one of his SmartVestors. I listen to almost every single episode on podcast and he has done it often enough... and I'm in agreement with the caller. It's pretty easy and cheap to buy the whole market thru index funds on your own without paying someone 1% cut of your earnings through life and Dave's arguments are easily shut down. He has entire rant videos from 2-3 years ago making bad arguments against those of us who don't need to hire someone to help us invest our own money. He's welcome to do what he wants on his show though---there's plenty of times I thought about doing a similar call in the last couple years, and this is about how I figured it would go. So glad I never wasted my time.

Rude caller wasn't wrong necessarily. However, Dave has never told people NOT to buy index-funds. He simply prefers actively-traded funds and whenever a caller says they have money in index-funds, he says, "cool, that works too". For the average caller, an actively-traded fund is going to give them more peace of mind. They will be less likely to buy-high sell-low or do stupid timing strategies.

I believe, according to tax current tax law (2022), if the mother gives her son and his wife $100K she and they will end up having to pay a substantial gift tax. Currently a person can only give another person $13K annually without triggering the gift tax. She could give her son $13K and also his wife $13K. Either that or it'd be a one lifetime gift of $100K which won't trigger the tax. The mother would then not be able to give any more monetary gifts to them again unless she and her son and wife are willing to pay the gift tax. If the woman is married both she and her husband can each give the son and wife $13K for a total of $52K. Because of this, the woman would be better off to give them the $100K over two years.

That rude guy was a valuable call as it shows the extra reach Dave could have. The first videos I found a little bit to what he said and did not like the Democrat bashing. I hear much less of that now and hear any government. I see Dave as ultimately helpful and so great. Follow the steps and you 100% cannot go wrong. 100% that's a record and stat for ya.
