I have a question, can you draw the frames in callipeg and then import it to procreate to colour i? That way you can do better animations in ipad right??
@TamaraKane Жыл бұрын
I guess my question is: which animation software ISN’T frustrating? I have whole movies inside my head that I want to create, but sometimes it feels like I’m spinning my wheels. Blender is way too convoluted and slow for me. And I want to animate in 2D, not 3D unless it’s for VR. Procreate would be easier and faster for me than Blender. But Maya is insanely expensive, right? And I’ve got an iPad Pro and a PC with a Wacom intuos 3. I love painting on my iPad more than anything. It’s the most user friendly art process to me. My intuos was nice enough, but it feels like painting with a pen mouse rather than actually painting. Am I going to need a Cintiq and a subscription to something?
@cmyknoise2 жыл бұрын
I just wanted to add, that you get more 'frames' depending on the size of your canvas! Procreate limits how many layers you have depending on the size of your canvas for file size reasons. The bigger the canvas, the less layers, and therefore less frames to use. For example, a 1000 x 1000 size canvas lets you have 263 layers, and therefore 263 frames. Plus, if you did want to make longer animations, you could simply make a full animation with all the frames you have available, create a new canvas with the same dimensions, import in the previous background or foreground layers if you need to, the last frame you had drawn, and continue on from there. You can then combine them together outside the program.

A bit of a tip about Procreate's layer/Frame Cap. It's dependent on the tablet size (GB vs TB) and the size of file. If the file is huge on say a 125 GB tablet (the one I have) It sometimes only do 6 layers. But if I have the sized file on a TB tablet, I can actually do more layers with it. That was probably the biggest learning curve for me when using Procreate to make more professional stuff that I've been making.

@x_pogboy50822 жыл бұрын
It’s based on ram. (For iPads at least)
@sloppynyuszi2 жыл бұрын
It’s based on RAM. You can see that in the iPad Pro’s. The layer limit on the 128,256 and 512gb are on 8 and the 1 and 2 Tb have 16. Seeing as that’s the only differentiating factor, it’s an easy deduction. Also it’s even reported by procreate that the layer limit is RAM dependant.
@ellespoonies2 жыл бұрын
To clarify the layer limitation thing, Procreate has that even on regular artworks. It’s not a hard limit on animation itself. It’s a limit regarding canvas size. So, smaller canvases get more layers / frames, and larger canvases get less layers / frames. Most people won’t be animating a full 4k show on Procreate, so you can get more length in your animations by making sure your canvas size is optimized to what you’re making rather than drawing on an overly large canvas like we’re taught to do on other traditional PC programs.

To add to your realization around frame/ layer limits, it actually all depend on your canvas size. If you reduced the canvas size and or resolution, you can gain many more frames/ layers. When it comes to animation in procreate it is best to think animated gifs with a defined style or clean look, and or short mp4 clips. The biggest limitation is the RAM of the iPad you are using. If they ever get around to making available on desktop, then it has serious potential as a pro-level, hand-drawn animation tool. Also, if you go Wrench > Canvas Information > Layers, it will tell you how many layers your document is limited to.
