This was pretty easy! Its my first real kit guitar. It was pretty simple. I'm working on another acoustic at the moment though. No kit, just an old front door that I'm turning into a guitar.

For a low end guitar it sounds great. I’m definitely ordering one on payday

What is that color of that stain, Danny? I love the green tone!!

Hi, awesome build! Mine is on the way. Hopefully will get to it soon. One question, do you know what the scale length of this kit is? I can't find it anywhere. Thanks
@dannylewisguitars2 ай бұрын
I think it’s a standard Gibson 24.75 inches.

Excellent! What are you using for the finish and the top coat?

I used Osmo Polyx

Was the hardware the typical Chinese kit stuff? Some of it is amazingly good and some is ugggggg. Nice build, very different color! 👏🏼

The pickups are decent! The plastic parts feel a little cheap. (Tone knobs, pickup rings, electronics covers) but it’s really amazing that they can sell this for this price.

The top looks a sort of greenish….is it Danny? BTW…..great build.🎸🎶👍✅
@dannylewisguitars3 ай бұрын
Yes it is! It started black. When I wiped off the black stain it had a little yellow underneath and I kind of like it so I kept wiping. It was entirely by accident. But its greenish.

Thoughts on the electronics for that price? A lot of low end electronics like that can be jut horrible with feedback and buzz, etc. Also, no finishing on the (what seems to be) raw mahogany body blank?
@johndoe-lr9if3 ай бұрын
You could upgrade the pickups? Doing the finish seems like part of the fun, though he makes it look easy 😅
@Ted_James3 ай бұрын
Many cheap kits come with cheap electronics. The same goes for the unfinished bodies. They're not meant to be high end guitars. Instead, they're great if you are interested in learning how to build guitars. That's part of why the electronics are all plug-and-play and do not require soldering. As you get more confident, you can replace the cheap electronics with something better. It's also fun to put your own finish on it. Some of these kits come with generic paddle-style headstocks that you can customize to whatever shape you want.
@robdamanii3 ай бұрын
you could, but you’d likely need to replace the pots and switch as well (it’s a plug in system). Any pickups will only really be as good as the rest of the electronics around them. Either way it’s a cheap way to learn to do a finish, which isn’t really that hard if you’re patient and careful.

I think it sounds pretty good. The pickups have just a little bit of hum when you're not playing if you have the tone knobs cranked. They're definitely not the highest quality but overall, I'm pretty happy with the quality of everything. Other than the strings.

@@dannylewisguitars That's awesome! Glad to see there are some decent sounding pieces in there. Did you end up having to shim the neck at all? Fretboard material? I've built a couple guitars, but never a LP model.

What was the dye/paint you used? I saw another video on the same guitar but was not accepting the dye.

It was just minwax stain! It wouldn’t have worked if I didn’t sand off the previous finish!

Did you have to level and crown the frets?
@dannylewisguitars3 ай бұрын
I actually didn’t! The neck was surprisingly well done.
@ralphdrees44132 ай бұрын
The frets on the Fesley kits I have had were all great and the necks were all already a satin finish. The only real downside I have seen from their kits is that they don’t take stain well, because they have a sealer on the veneer. You’d have to sand the flame off just to get through it and that would defeat the purpose for my needs. The guitar itself is excellent for what you paid though.

They did yoy have a problem with the neck being bent a bit on the body do I jsut have to adjust my action?
@RILODLOАй бұрын
wait paint did you use?
@ralphdrees44132 ай бұрын
By far the worst part of this kit is the sealer on the maple veneer, so you can’t do a flame burst or something like that. Very upsetting. Otherwise would be an absolutely amazing platform. Their kits are extremely well produced in my experience.

at first I thought what a cool idea and learning experience.... but then after looking at the ads I realize these guitars can be purchased already assembled with an amp and carrying bag for less than the diy kit... which is kind of lame...
@dannylewisguitars23 күн бұрын
Yeah. You have to pay for that learning experience I guess. Or you could just build one out of an old pallet from scratch like I did! It's practically free! kzbin.info/www/bejne/mn3JaKOCoqiDqpI

@@dannylewisguitars yea already saw that one, that's why YT suggested this one. but still, to do it yourself (and not know how to set it up properly) vs getting one already setup AND AN AMP AND BAG... for the same price... kind of silly.
@pawpatina23 күн бұрын
@@dannylewisguitars my point is the DIY kit without amp and bag should be ~$100.
