There is a turn off that takes you to a wide river. This is or was a counting spot for bald eagles. The ministry fellow was there the day we were, counting and we got to take part. We counted over 140 eagles in roughly 1 hour. I say well over, because it's impossible to keep track if you are counting the same ones sometimes. Well worth the visit but I can't remember the name of the river area.

"Brackendale is perhaps the most well known eagle viewing area in the Vancouver area. Located just a few minutes north of Squamish on the Sea-to-Sky Highway, Brackendale is home to several thousand eagles that spend their day by the Squamish River searching for food."

Beautiful video! In the 1970s, my mother drove the family to all the falls and at that time, it was a one lane gravel logging road with steep drops at one side. If you met someone going up, you'd have to back down until the road was wide enough to pass. Thankfully we didn't meet anyone, especially logging trucks, going up or down because mom JUST got her license and we were in a big boat of a car. But at one point there was a wooden bridge with a few missing boards on the deck that had a sign "cross at your own risk", since we couldn't turn around, my mom closed her eyes and gunned it. Lol, dad was terrified in the front and in the back seat, so was my brother and i. I was very young and i will never forget it. We lived to tell the tale lol. The beauty of that area was so wild and was outstanding. I'm so glad you experienced that beautiful park.

Hunters in Ontario do the same thing with the tree connected horizontally between 2 sturdy trees for field dressing animals. Looks like you're going to go through Kamloops. That area will be much different than the Ancient Forest. It's a semi-arid area. Last time I was out there was to visit an uncle. Some people joked about tumbleweed crossing the road. 20:32. Those open areas at the end of roads are the landing areas of logging operations. It's where the skidders drag the fallen trees to, and where the trees get limbed and bucked to length. The logging trucks turn around in that clearing, get loaded, and haul the raw trunks to the mill. I love when world travelling youtubers travel through what is essentially my back yard. It makes me proud of where I live and want to share. I suppose that's true no matter where you go. And yes, that's a bear cache.

You keep upping the excitement ! I'll have to watch again and maybe again ! The ancient forest blew me away. Just thinking of the age of those massive trees is mind blowing and so very different to see that environment after I've been to the California redwoods. Did I catch a glimpse of Spanish Moss on some of the trees? The waterfalls were epic and it's as if Ben went through a very strong car wash 🤣 Chesca, I get vertigo so it was very smart of you to watch and film Ben ! I am envious of the lack of machine age environmental noise. Most don't realize what truly being in the wild is like. Heck, we wear headphones to cancel out noise. Sending you four big hugs and lots of love, Ellen.

Thanks so much Annie! Yeah it looked a bit too narrow for my liking. I don’t think anything bad would happen if you fell. Maybe slide down the scree and get even more soaking wet than you already are 😅🧡

Great scenery and video work. Yes the cross log in trees is for hoisting up your food to keep from bears and critters reach.

Thanks so much guys! Apparently it’s for hunters to hang and dress big game like deer and moose. Probably comes in handy for other things too 🐻 xx

Have been watching your vids from the beginning just love them you guys are great. I believe the horizontal branch you showed us is for dressing deer or moose in hunting season. Enjoy your trip ---- we certainly are. Cheers Ed&Joan

So amazing to hear you’ve been watching from the beginning, makes us feel all warm inside! And yep, think you’re right as loads of people have commented saying it’s for the hunters to dress big game 🧡✨

Love your videos. I have lived and worked in most of the areas you’ve travelled thru and it’s easy to take it for granted until you see it thru someone else’s viewpoint (Dease Lake, Whitehorse, Prince George, and now Kamloops). You’re probably already gone by, but if not, Sun Peaks is a nice quick stop just outside of Kamloops. It’s a ski hill but you can take the chair lift up the mountain to do some day hiking. Safe travels.

Wow we really have been in your neck of the woods on this trip! It’s a really special place up here. I think no matter where you are in the world it’s easy to lose sight of the beauty sometimes. Thanks for the Sun Peaks tip! 🧡

The horizontal log between the trees is to throw a rope over and hang your food so bears don't get it. They will break into vehicles, tents, whatever to get at food.

I just spent 19 days between BC and Alberta (Banff) and I feel your pain about the miles between grocery stores and trying to find what you need. BUT, the scenery is stunning! I loved the drives. So much beautiful nature! The drive between Whistler and Banff is stunning, so was Icefields Parkway in Banff.

I live in this area and haven’t been to some of the places you’ve been. Wonderful to follow along. I agree that the horizontal pole can be used to get food caches up off the ground, but my family has a similar set up to hang moose haunches after a successful hunt.
@OverlandingSophia Жыл бұрын
I hope you get to make it to some of them. The ancient forest and waterfalls were out of this world! And yep, I think general consensus is that the pole is for hanging game like moose!

That waterfall is absolutely gorgeous, although I must admit I was freaking out when Ben went behind them. I was so afraid he'd slip and never come out. I'm guessing it was very slippery. I live in Nova Scotia and love it here and my kids are here, but if I didn't have kids or grandchildren, I'd definitely live in BC. I miss it, and there's nothing like those mountains. ❤
@OverlandingSophia Жыл бұрын
Neither of us knew how intense it would be to go behind the waterfall! Much narrower and slippery than we expected, but thankfully he was fine. Something to get the blood pumping! 😂 💛

You will see this log on a tree thing everywhere. It is either for keeping your food from the bear or for a rope swing. There are many uses for doing that. My neighbor just put one up to hang bird feeders on.
@OverlandingSophia Жыл бұрын
We've had loads of comments saying it's used for hanging big game like deer and moose! Makes sense as we've only seen them in wild camps that hunters would use. Much prefer their use as bird feeders though! 💛

Can’t believe those water falls especially the big one I had no idea. It’s my dream to someday see those giant ancient cedars and hemlocks of BC. Another crazy interesting video, thanks so much. Take care and safe travels guys.
@OverlandingSophia Жыл бұрын
Back home there might be one or two trees that are ancient in a forest. But to walk amongst an ENTIRE forest of them was like being in a film. So beyond magical and timeless in there. The waterfalls were pretty crazy eh! So awesome to be so up close too 😂💦💦 Hope you’re doing well Russell!

I lived in BC from 1974 until 1997 and I’m ashamed to say I haven’t seen all the amazing places you two have been. It’s fabulous to see all these places from your perspective. Considering all the travelling and mikes you’ve done in your van it’s impressive how few issues you’ve add with things like a binged up sink.
@OverlandingSophia Жыл бұрын
It’s a big place Lyn! Don’t blame you for not getting chance to see it all. I think the ancient forest was only designated a park in 2017! And yep, we’re very surprised more hasn’t shaken apart 😅 xx
