ls talks about draft in a way where his thought make sense if all players are all equally good at the game and all play their draft optimally. draft isnt the only deciding factor though. there was the 100 t vs ggs fiesta where ggs had a massive draft advantage and they still struggled to end because their players sucked
@josefehling11343 жыл бұрын
I get why you perceive it that way but he also states that champions like renekton can be a tool for better teams to defeat weaker teams. Most of the times he talks about draft in the sense that a different comb would help the team with the weaker players to get an edge over the other team and the combs he talks about aren't that difficult to execute for players on pro lvl. The next thing that goes into it is that he doesn't like how players play out the lane and the mistakes they make on a micro and macro lvl of fundamentals. Wich he also stated in context to how a draft should work and why teams aren't able to get better results, but he doesn't repeat himself so it is hard to find those clips of him stating those things.

Lemme be of the first then. Thorin is actually right, there's a vid where LS and Nemesis did a tier list for the best champs for the meta, and most of them I disagree with, because they mostly brush over the synergy between certain champs with others, like the ADC section of the vid, most of the good champs ended up being low.

Think the most recent examples i can think of to really show what Thorin was talking about was game one of C9 vs TL for spring finals 2021. TL had urgot and supposedly other great picks and I remember a lot of the casters and even LS thinking that TL won draft. Didn't matter TL ended up get thrashed game 1. I also remember for I think game 4 Jensen picked Sylas and the C9 players were so happy about it. They basically baited TL into the Sylas. Really just shows there really is more to the "They won draft" phrase. Back in the day when impact was still with TL. If impact got Shen it would usually end up a win for TL. Didnt really matter what the other team drafted nor what the rest of TL drafted. Impact on shen usually meant a win. In those games i would definitely call it a TL won draft with just one champ.

Everyone (very much including LS) is aware of the fact that winning draft isn't the same as winning the game. You don't even need to play perfectly, you just need to be as good as your opponents. If you are worse than your opponents, a better draft won't win you the game but it might give you a chance to beat a better team. Even if they lose, they still had a better draft. And another, worse draft wouldn't have saved them. There are drafts which have certain win conditions (Like Nidalee, Renekton etc what Damwon did in MSI Finals had to hard win early) and their opponents need to prevent that win condition from becoming true. If they don't do that, the worse draft wins due to reaching their win conditions. LS proved in the scrims he and his friends did against T1 Academy that winning draft in the sense he uses that phrase is actually incredibly useful.
@mxgoh19973 жыл бұрын
Markz made very fantastic point abt this in 2017 after Freesm lost in grps again. And that is most fans like to blame to draft because its way easier to say they should have picked x instead of y, then to spend time and effort to think abt what goes on in each game, and how the team failed to execute on their drafts win conditions. In short fans are just dumb xD. So I'm finnaly glad that you debunked this stuff
@alexanderschwarz2423 жыл бұрын
One point about Ls's way of thinking about draft that I think is not expandet upon in this video is, that he believes humans are capable of playing is type of drafts and style and thus they should draft in that way even if they are currently not skilled enogh to pull it off consistently because it is an overall higer level to play the game people should aim thowards. Its like if 20 years ago some NBA Coach came up with the idea, that they should shoot more threes because it is humanly possible to get the succes rate high enough where it is worth to go for. Somebody had to prove that it was possible to get an accuracy of around 40% reliably in order for people to start trowing more threes. Ls is saying: " here is what you have to prove to be possible to beat everybody else and force them to adapt."
@joe_robloxgameing3 жыл бұрын
As a dota player/watcher I think the concept of "winning draft" comes from dota. In dota teams can 100% win draft because the heroes in dota 2 specifically counter winning conditions from other heroes with their own win conditions. Because of this it is a lot easier as a dota analyst to look at a draft before a game of dota and say, these heroes in combination with each other have an easier win condition than the other teams heroes and therefore the game is going to be easier for team A to win so therefore team A won the draft. In league of legends I have no idea but if you watch a dota tournament analysis after the end of every draft will tell you who they think won the draft and it is just generally really common.
@gmnr13363 жыл бұрын
So here’s the thing about the robot angle, he takes into account the players making mistakes, if you have no insurance policies in the game you have to play more like a robot aka the early game comps you have to play well. Look at the Renekton game perkz played, he flash stunned a ward and the game was over. I can agree with the premise that LS does not take into account team strength which is a missing avenue in his style of drafting, but it’s understandable, because a player can learn anything from game to game, a team’s “strength” can change from game to game sometimes. Look at how much better Fudge got, not even Fudge even, look at how many players got better over the split. If you reduced them to a single strategy, basing your draft off that seems, shortsighted.
@gmnr13363 жыл бұрын
Also, I think the concept drafting for comfort has been pretty much come under scrutiny. Before 2020, the only way people ever drafted was comfort. Whether or not it’s correct or not, I don’t know I’m a random. What I do know is that LS had a bunch of scrims against T1 academy, his players were ex-pro but the t1 academy players were challenger 1000 lp on korea, so very respectable players and noticeably better than LS’s players. One game, the enemy team picked Kalista and Irelia, and LS responded with Nasus support, and by all metrics, the enemy could NOT play the game. Even if that was the best irelia and the best kalista, they literally, I don’t think at least, do anything. So drafting is a very complicated concept indeed, one that fascinates me a lot.

@Riokaii3 жыл бұрын
Its not that player mistakes invalidate winning draft. WInning draft means you can make more mistakes and they are going to be less punishing. They mean you can win, while playing comparatively "worse" than your opponents. The comps add some aspect of "playing themselves".
@Iukeeey3 жыл бұрын
It depends how much the players' mistakes impact the win condition. If a team builds a wombo comp that counters an enemy team's comp and the players miss their ults in the teamfights because they aren't used to playing those specific champions, what might be the "winning draft" in that context becomes the losing draft because the players didn't have the skillset or playstyles to execute that comp.
@nakedSnæke3 жыл бұрын
@@Iukeeey If you constantly miss your ult in every teamfight, you are the worse team hence you should lose. But it's not the point. The point is win draft so you are more comfortable in game. Ultimately winning draft is not equal to winning the game, you have a game to play in the first place.

U know, philosophical preparation, at least a bit, is something everybody should have, but no one does, and it puts you way above the regular content makers. Will elaborate on it a bit if it interests you (might be relevant positive feedback) or anyone else. What you're treating here is really easily generalizible, also. A "concept" only makes sense when you consider its determinate totality; taking an absolute away from its interior concreteness and trying to "glue" it back to any given arbitrary particular phenomena could almost be the most general definition of "dogma", and some very bad ones. Ure teaching some dialectics here, though. U begin with the abstract idea of what the "best draft" is; then you show all the determinate relations interior to that idea, making the concept concrete; then we can return to the simple idea of what's best, but understanding it is correspondent to those concrete interior relations you spoke about, which ends up being "whats best for a determinate team". If you only said the last part, as abstractly as the idea of an absolute best, it'd still be mediocre and not meaningful; your power is you know how to think and develop the concept, bringing it alive. I rly do appreciate it, mate, it's really soothing, since most content there is about league (or anything, really, even science and philophy) is simple and meager thoughts without depth, or mindless repetition. It's what makes LS interesting too, but I do think he is a bit too dogmatic and for sure less able to articulate the content and communicate it the way u make it. Congrats! Will keep following, thanks for the content. Btw, great intro and ads, as others said LOL
