Tbh, he could just say she went crazy and attacked him and he couldn't call for help because she had his phone. Smash everyone else's phone including your own. Find a way to get the phone back from her, kill her, delete the video then put on your best acting skills and call for help saying, "this girl, she went crazy and killed my friends. My friend had an emergency so I shut my house party down, but she stayed and hid till everyone else was gone and got the jump on us. She.....she wanted me to tell my dad to write her a recommendation and......when I said no she killed [whoever that girl is]. (Make sure you kill the best friend too there is no guarantee she won't talk) Her friend knew this had gone too far after that and tried to reason with her, but she didn't listen and she killed her. (If the best friend isn't dead, you're going to have to bargain with her and convince her to stay silent). Anyway there's more to this, but the point is he definitely could finesse the situation. Remember the people alive are the ones that tell the story. Dead people talk, but you can make them say whatever you want them to.

The *entire* movie hinges on the stupid phone, which could've been tucked away anywhere, and the main girl could've gone straight to the police.

That is usually a thing with characters in horror movies. Even without a guide book "what to do if you're in a horror movie", common sense should help a lot. Like don't split up in that ruined old villa, don't yell up the stairs "is someone there" if you know you're alone. If you've met the villain halfway through the story, and 5 hits don't keep the monster down, assume that hasn't changed and be extra sure in disposal.

Just an initial thought, they could've solved the phone issue easily. She could have left the party, taken it home, felt safe making a good decision, then the goon platoon could've use Find My Phone and showed up at her house knowing the phone was there. It would have given the main character intelligence, and added suspense that we thought she was safe, but suddenly she's not. Lazy writing.

Fun fact, most regions have building codes that require bathroom electrical outlets be GFCI protected. If you drop a hairdryer into a sink that is full of water, a GFCI electrical outlet will immediately stop electricity from being supplied to the hairdryer. Of course, don't try this at home, but most likely scenario of this scene 24:41 would have resulted in the hairdryer turning off and basically nothing happening.

So much dumb shit happened that by the time 23:20 came up and he said "college of her dreams" I had entirely forgotten about that being a motivation at the start. On top of that... the fact that they think they are going to have blood all over the yard, blood in the bathroom, 2 missing highschool girls, another missing girl from a week prior, a broken door, signs of struggle everywhere, no allaby, about 1000 witnesses that can put them at the scene of crime, etc. They think that without the phone their son will be fine. That is the most hilarious part to me.

Okay so I know that when you’re in a fight or flight, you don’t always make good decisions. It always feels easier to hide when in an unfamiliar environment, because it’s more common to be overlooked than to survive being cornered. HOWEVER, This isn’t dumb in the realm of possibility. A movie that does this type of concept but better in my opinion is “Bodies, Bodies, Bodies”. They’re all stupid still, but within the realm of “we’re stupid 20 something year olds”. These guys remind me of writers that come up with the ending first and goes “how the hell do we get here”, and can’t find a plausible reason. Then instead of changing the ending, they force bad choices to get there. Although one or two bad decisions are okay, it gets to the point where the entire thing feels like “I’m not changing the finale, these people are doing what I want for that to exist, instead of making the characters believable or interesting”.

there's an issue that Rotten Tomatoes has where sometimes it'll look like a movie is highly rated, when it really just doesn't have a lot of rotten reviews. They're either "fresh" or "rotten" and nothing in between. The 'positive' reviews on this by critics, on RT, are like "it's predictable but good performances" or like "well this thing was bad but this thing was good" and no praise seems particularly strong. For whatever reason, they like something about it and are willing to write a middling review, write off some of the bad stuff, but the 86% fresh rating is deceptive.

Gooch is his god given Christian name. Gooch Goochy Goocherson the 3rd. He can trace his family back to the 1400's in England where his distant relative worked for the king by flashing his taint, or gooch, on command. Henry VI just really loved glaring at gooch and taking in the taint, hence the family sir name was born. the long line of gooches lead to this fine specimen. The coat of arms for the family is fantastic. it is just a large flesh colored shield, sparsely covered in hair, with a pair of testicles at the bottom.

One of my biggest turnoffs for a movie is a really simple, and generic concept that's fluffed out into a full length film. Like bow much better would this movie have been if she gets to like a halloween party, and they're reenacting scenes from iconic horror films, and killing people at the party. You could do this neat thing of trying to figure out who's actually being killed, while also trying to figure out who in the audience is knowingly killing people and who's just oblivious and going along for the ride.

This feels like this is the Illumination's _Super Mario Bros. Movie_ situation all over again, where the movie got praised by the audience, but the critics loathed it for invalid reasons. The current state of online critics is killing me. *Edit:* The people in the replies who agree with the critics really proved my point even further.

The Closer Look made a great point about critic and audience perceptions; audiences who rate a movie are almost always those who seek the movies out, but critics are often forced to watch these movies which they have no interest in. So on Rotten Tomatoes, the audience score is the target demographic, and the critics’ consensus is a miscellany of people who may or may not have wanted to watch it

I could give a few arguments about why some characters made such dumb decisions, though the movie does seem to kinda debunk one of them. 1. Zarza isnt stumbiling drunk because the shock of the situation scared her out of her stupor. She didnt notice the barricaded door because she was too focused on throwing up. She thought Gooch locked himself out so him going through extremes for the window didnt make her think anything. 2. Protagonist ran for the ladder because she felt more safe being by her friend / strength in numbers. Though i do agree with Elvis 99.9% of people would see trying to climb the ladder as a big hazard in such a situation.

I would argue that taking the gamble on being on the roof before the guy gets to the ladder seems better than trying to simply outrun him on flat ground. Also the higher she is on the ladder the harder it would be for him to tip it over. Seems like a decision that definitely more than 0.01% of people could make. Aside from just running onto the street and screaming on top of your lungs, which probably would be a better gamble.

I feel half of the bad desisions the characters make in this movie where made because the film crew didn't had access to another locations. Why didn't Eden ran away when Onision kicked everybody out of his house? Why didn't Onision took Kendra to the hospital ans tried to get the phone back the next day? Because the filmakers didn't have the permits to shoot a chase scene throught the woods, or in the highway, or Eden's neighborhood, or anywhere else besides the mansion and its lawn... that's my theory

Maybe true, but I think the script comes first and it was just written like this so they didn't even try to get access to more locations bc the script was focused on one location anyway. They wanted so badly to have this "everything goes crazy in one location" horror trope. Probably they asked the writer/s to write the story in this way, bc it would be cheaper to execute. A lazy production from start to finish.

Why are we still getting writers who refuse to make realistic and believable characters and motivations. It's the first thing you learn in a writing class that characters who make unrealistic and bad choices are immediately unlikable unless they want everyone to hate the characters.
