@personwhohasnoname10 ай бұрын
I too find the shelves too unbroken horizontally. Because the shelves are a single straight line with nothing vertical you need some sort of knackery to break it up and allow the eyes to focus. Nothing too heavy, but a nice extra large funko between some of the sets would make a huge difference. I also don't really like the typewriters. In theory they are good, but I think the spacing is weird and they look like they are just sat there rather than being a display piece.
@marocat474910 ай бұрын
And in a weird order too, the black and brown would look so much better at the ends of the typewriter line. in a by hight, would look better. And why is the tacky pink malazan in the middle, and why not at the left like all the other collections. the grounded colours is fine , but the pink cover world first fit way more with the grand collections left, and lets the grounded covers less use their grounded colours charme. Ok ant its in the higher 2, too clean, a few funkopops and at least detective picachu funkopop would set a good finish at the higher board. Also the right book covers in the middle, were they trhe right finisher, way better ok the tacky is fine, it just soesnt belong in the middle but to the left boarder. It would look way better over wheel of time. And kayla , does he feat kaylas could notice your precious wheel of time?! put her above it :P also all strong reddish book left xcould look eary :O

Gonna be honest and it might sound brutal. The threeshelves, to me, they scream soulless. It gives the same vibe as fairy lights just for booktubers. It looks good but it tells us nothing about you. As many have pointed out the lack of knick-knacks. I can see 2 things in the background that tells me a little about why you are different. 1) The custom Wheel of Time 2) The type writers. The rest honestly feel soulless and like if you were any other youtuber. I am not saying what you've made looks bad and that is VERY important to keep in mind. and if you like how this looks - DON'T FUCKING CHANGE A THING. But to me it doesn't scream you it screams generic booktuber number 68.

They are very pretty! My main aesthetic critique is that the visual weight of the Beserks would be more balanced if they were more towards the right side of the shelf rather than above the custom WoT omnibus. But I do appreciate that others in your 'cord had pointed out that the absence of 'well-loved' books makes it lack a certain...soul. You know how some ebay sellers will sell books 'by the yard' or by color, for set designers and home stagers? It kinda looks like one of those 😅Like the shelf of someone who doesn't actually read. But hey! It's a camera backdrop, so that's valid. Maybe you can post a picture of your 'schlubby' shelves later and redeem yourself of the accusation of hiding them out of shame ;) Always enjoy a good bookshelf roast!

The thing about non fiction books, especially say science nonfiction books which lend themselves to non narrative structures, is that they are not as daunting as people make out. They are in fact the opposite because they are perfect dip in and out of books, unlike novels which require an investment into following through on plot spanning journey. Its like the difference between visiting a lake for a swim (nonfiction) or kayaking down a river midflood (fiction) - not always but it often felt that way. TLDR when brain tired, non fiction good, needs less investment.

If you’re just getting into nonfiction books, I’d love to recommend some history ones: King Leopold’s Ghost by Adam Hochschild which is about King Leopold II and his horrific plunder of the Congo during the 19th century. In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson which is about the American ambassador (and his family) in Germany during the rise of the Nazis. The Black Count by Tom Reiss is about the life of Alexandre Dumas’s (yes, THAT Alexandre Dumas) very famous father.

This is more of a curated backdrop than your bookshelves proper, a bookshelf tour would be cool, including a run-down of your digital library. I feel like there would have been just enough space for an extra shelf if you had dropped them down a bit, maybe you were worried about it looking too cramped, maybe the top shelf would have turned out too high, but it has gone far enough in the other direction people are demanding more knackage. I think though, there could have been more books, one of the key things that I think makes bookshelves look cosy and interesting, is their packed in nature, maintaining a look of balance while working with the reality that books aren't all exactly the same size. Minimalism with books is a thing too, that's more about having a few, presumably well-loved books you like to keep around. But this isn't that, and you are fighting between your urges for it to look cool, sleek even, and to fit in your dragon hoard of books, because they are all precious. I have formed a parasocial relationship with Valazan now, it's a nice little story to remember, I vote for keeping it.

Glad the shelf brackets are no longer down. Still frustrated that I can see the brackets (was this an artistic choice? Hidden floating brackets ARE a thing). Because you're centre on shelves, book height choice in sections does cause visual illusion of shelf bending. Used minimal length level to prove long shelf isn't level, what fallacy is this! I like your books, can't argue. Def hide that cable. Would prefer fourth shelf with more spread out books and different homes for the type writers.

And it’s the same story.

Worst than that they created the entire world and characters together and Erikson acknowledges none of it could or would exist without Esslemont. Esslemont's books are as valid and part of the "original" series as anything Erikson has done. He's treating it like it's Erikson's series and Esslemont has written in Erikson's world. If Esslemont is bonuses then to me that means the Sanderson Wheel of Time books are even more so as he just used Robert Jordan's work to write the books he wrote for that series. (Note: I don't think Sanderson's are bonuses as I don't think Esslemont's are just saying if they are then so must Sanderson's).

Daniel stop acting like the living room has anything to do with a book roast! Make the damn bookshelf cozy and more knackage, don't be lazy and stack them on the books though, buy some book ends and space them in between. Even the cheap library ones, or splurge for fancy ones that would contribute to the knackage. Also, are these only books you have already read? I personally prefer having a shelf with a lil preview of TBR so I can drool all over them and make the pages run so I have to get more books
