Dope tut as always! Just one thing to min. 1:48: You could also map the volume control to one of your faders and then hit the MIDI button on the top right an click the arrow on the top left corner. There you can set the max. amount of your specific fader for instance to -6db. Then you could turn the fader on your MIDI controller all the way up and it won't pass that line. Just to let you know!

You actually map the faders to the volume of your tracks and set the max to nominal instead of +6 , however this does look like a super sweet config for live looping.
@colinag66 жыл бұрын
Hey just so you know instead of using the sends to control the volumes you can just map your faders to the regular faders and in the midi mapping you can set your faders to only go from negative infinity to 0db or whatever you want

I’m sorry I’m so late to the parry, but the thing that is setting me back, is, how at 5:54, you managed to que up and start recording one later down? Is that a specific midi map you’ve set up? Or is it a feature in the Akai controller you have? I want to be able to record live and loop and transition to other rows without clicking the master play button over to the right. Do you have to have a 4x4 pad for the red box to show up?
@dandvoracek86925 жыл бұрын
You can easily assign exact values for your midi mappings just by pressing cmd m. That way you don’t need to use send levels to controll volume of individual tracks. Ableton is excellent for this, much faster (workflow-wise) than logic pro.
@iveno_5 жыл бұрын
I use an RC505 for loops looking into other ways of looping my synth/ acoustic instruments, love your video makes me think of other ways of looping, this AKAI device only works with software?! Can I just use it as a loop machine? If not any other recommendations for loop machines? I really like how you just add FX to the track I can do that with the RC as well. Thanks again!

Uhm, rather than using sends for each channel, you can instead set the range that the software fader will travel over the full range of your controller slider. It can max out at 0 dB if you want, -6 dB, -20 dB, whatever you want. It's in the MIDI mapping details. Maybe annoying that the default carries the software fader to +6, but if you ever used an analog mixer (less likely these days) you would have experienced that allowance for a little boost over unity gain, which may come in handy. Great video!

question, it seems you only use volumes to mix or glue the instruments when live looping. did you pre-mix/compress anything prior to live looping? any suggestions on basic mixing & mastering using only free vsts/ ableton plug ins? should there be any of these processes going on throughout performing live? thanks in advance underbelly!
@yousuckatproducing7 жыл бұрын
very light compression/limiting on master to glue everything together. However 90% of the sound is just listening and making sure the volume of each track is good from the get go.
