To a lot of people, "mumble rap" fell off back in 2018/2019. But, that doesn’t mean that the concept of “mumble rap” is over. Because in reality, it’s alive and flourishing more than ever. The thing is that nowadays, we're just desensitized to it to the point that we didn’t realize it’s still here.

Eh not really, it's just that most of the SoundCloud rappers are either slowly retiring or dead. There's just not many fresh bloods these days that are good in terms of sound. Lyrics are w.e. when it comes to music the most important thing is the sound. And there's just nothing that sounds good right now. The idea of mumble rapper to me is an oxymoron. The MC had the ability to spit a rhyme that big up their DJ. That evolved to the rapper having the ability to spit a rhyme about whatever. But a mumble rapper mumbles their bars, but it's melodic and on beat, so you don't pay attention to it. At that point, you're not even rapping your just mumbling words over a beat, and your producer is making sonicly nice. And I'm saying this as someone who use to hate mumble rap lol a part of me still does but I can listen to Die Lit but Carti and early Uzi and bump my head to it. But I won't deny that mumble rap has definitely muddy the water of rap which is crazy because all the big major mumble rapper claimed Lil Wayne was their biggest rap inspiration. Wayne is one of the best lyricists ever, so its crazy how mumble rappers only took surface level Wayne and didn't actually study his bars, but that's my opinion on mumble rappers.

People used to say "Rap was only cool in the 90's" But that changed when XXXtentacion and others like him emerged. Don't get me wrong, I think hiphop is still cool now. It's almost cooler now than it was in 2015. And people get mad about the lack of articulate lyrics. But I argue that they don't need it. Modern rap is like hip-hop noise. It's a sound. It's like punk rock. Some punk rock songs are just people screaming and it's cool because it is a certain noise...kind of like Jazz too. Articulate rappers like Kendrick and J Cole are the exception not the rule. There, I said it. And for the record, FE!N is a good song! I get hype every time I listen to it.

I agree, we all got tricked. You can't listen to artists like Sexyy Red or even Ice Spice and not say its a form of Mumble Rap. Sexyy Red got lyrics that sound like they were written by a 12 year old who just learned genital and curse words and she can't even stay on point with an instrumental.Sukihana can probably rival Lil Xan as the worst rapper of all time. Sure, its not like Cardi B or Megan Thee Stallion can do anything else than rap about being a gold digger and a sex freak but at least they have some form of technical skill and wordplay when doing so (due to their extremely limited range I'm surprised they've even stuck around for a decade).

2016 was a good era though, the sounds were sonically good. Even if the lyrics didn't have substance, it doesn't matter, music has to sound and flow good. The current era just doesn't sound good in general. Ice spice and Sexy redd are carrying this terrible era on their backs because their music is actually good when stacked against this sea of dog shit.😂 I've been listening to all kinds of music all my life, rap, hiphop, pop, japanese,Korean you name it. And the common trend of these last 2 years is that music have fallen off. We were in a music boom during 2013-2019 believe it or not. I used to have to make a new Playlist every year, but now I'm lucky if I get 5 new songs that I enjoy in a year.😂 I haven't had to make a new Playlist in 4 years.

The only thing that I didn't like about true mumble rappers is that I always felt like mumbling through songs the way that they did was not good for an entire career of songs, but better used as an aesthetic for 1 or 2 songs where you are trying to portray a more drowsy Drugged up feel Or even just a boozy intoxicated feeling to it but because So many rappers did it as just their baseline style at kind of ruined being able to do that aesthetically

I think it won’t matter in 10 years with ai. People probably be able to record their own voices and use that as an ai voice changer thing ya know? Like: ‘hey Alexa, create a song for me that is about my cat Lexington’ As well as people uploading their own music that they’ve created (not necessarily musicians). Like for example - the ai covers or songs of popular influencers. It’s gonna be that; but personal.
