The bassist finally admits that even he can’t hear the behs, I think it’s a win for humanity

I'm surprised so many people say they can't hear or didn't notice the bass in ABBA records. To me the bass always sounds really present in the mix (love most of their mixes)... I'm not trying to be a special snowflake, I'm just surprised by the lack of critical listening of some bass players. Or maybe it's because people listen to music through their laptop/phone speakers? Even then the sound of Rutger is often pretty audible in the mix. His tone has plenty of midrange to be audible

Funnily enough, the first time I actually noticed the bass playing in ABBA was when I heard my neighbor play "Dancing Queen". Listening to it from the other side of a wall seemed to emphasize the bass.

@@vincentkoster6291 Most people hear music trough cheap phone speakers or bluetooth, compressed sound and not equalized (most in ear headphone sound really bright and too in the highs for me, and the bass mushed or absent) I use the good old Sennheiser hd202 when listening on the bus, and even with that you can really hear bass notes (Samson SR850 for home, I don't have that much money (Argentina)) If not, go to night clubs. I went to them a lot, most of the time it's cachengue and regueton, but sometimes they play a fraction of an old classic like MJ, ABBA, Britney spears, or even Eminem, lady gaga. Songs at the style of billie elish have good bass riff too that play on night clubs

Ye most bass players simplify ABBA lines heavily to the point when they’re not really playing the line at all. It completely changes the groove unfortunately. I think the easiest line I’ve played, though I’m no ABBA scholar, is the bassline to “Does Your Mother Know” though it still grooves solidly.
