Imagine if Toyota still built trucks like this! Simple, reliable, but quality everywhere. I think Toyota is still riding on this era's reputation but the new Tacomas don't hold a candle to the flame. That interior looks amazing.

I have the 1995 base 4x4 and I love it but most today would not. They're too spoiled. My truck has a 5-speed manual and only 116 HP. It never had A/C. It has a two speaker AM/FM stereo with no clock and you can't hear it when it's hot and you're at speed with the windows open. Strangely it has tilt steering and I never use it, and it carries a lot of weight for a small truck but the bed is small. Everyone wants a bigger truck. Most cars are bigger than my 3250 lb pickup and you can't play CDs or tapes or plug into the wimpy stereo without an FM transmitter. It's also geared for 55 MPH America not 70.

I'm an original owner toying with selling my manual transmission 1990 Toyo 4X4 X-tracab SR5 with 131,000 miles _as is._ Much of what you describe regarding paint and stripes is similar...paint wearing thin, body decal stripes drying out, nick in front bumper, however the bed's like new, there's no rust and very little body dings. Non-smoking interior next thing to new. Did A/C conversion in summer 2021. Just had timing belt, water pump and hoses replaced last week. Will need new radio, though. Alignment is straight on. Rides quiet, no rattles. Have tried to keep it as close to stock as possible, including stock aluminum rims, original chrome rear bumper. Truck's been babied all it's life...never off road. Every year I get at least fifteen offers....four, just last week alone. It's spent much of it's life parked in a driveway...after almost 34 years I hate to see it go, but it might be time.

It really comes down to how well you take care of your vehicle too, as I have seen some pretty trashed one's out there as well. I took very good care of my 20 yr 4Runner until I got in accident last year, and most people who didn't know model years, thought my car was less than 5 years old it was so clean inside and out. How much effort you put into keeping in clean and up on maintenance is 100% key.

The best vehicle that I have ever owned was a 1996 Tacoma regular cab 4x4 with a 2.7 four-cylinder and 5-speed manual. Unfortunately NYS Salt eats them up eventually, the only thing that kills them as long as you do regular maintenance especially oil changes they'll run forever. I saw an 87 one 4 cyl 5 speed up here a couple months ago in Western NYS that owner drove up here from Texas with 340,000 miles, still looked quite good, never been drove in winter, no rust on it. I was so jealous! My 2000 with 225,000+ miles still runs great but NYS Salt is rusting the body, so far frame is still solid on it. Can't beat them!
