Same for my DH who is 74 and recovering from prostate cancer. I'm a 73 y/o nurse and want to know what the heck is going on with medicine. Had not had an incident of atrial fib for 22 mos (only on episode previously). and finally had a small episode and they wanted to put me on a bunch of stuff......NOPE. I offered the solution of "pill in a pocket". My initial episode was treated with lot "junk" and my heart rate went down into the 30's, hair fell out and they say you are now hypertensive; sick the 6 mos I was on the "junk". They would not listen and I stopped it all. I don't have Bp problems after going off all that junk, no cholesterol problems and am not diabetic???????

I live in a retirement park so I see old ppl daily. I also take care of my 87 yr old mother who lives with me. I notice when feet don’t work, the mobility decreases fast so as health. There are many tiny bones and joints. When toes can’t grab the floor (or insole), the stability goes out the window. They tend to fall more often, too. Part of the foot stiffing is circulation. Exercising feet and hands is important to daily life. Do things to keep those tiny joints moving so that you can walk and stand and use fingers and hands to do chores.

Important message on Nitrates rich foods I have a diet high in nitrates and it has helped my blood pressure so greatly. But , I actually had an excess of nitrates covert to nitrites and when I made corned beef and cabbage (cabbage high in nitrates) ( corned beef has added nitrates) as a side dish over a 2 week period , cooked at high temperature , boiled , it converts nitrites into dangerous Nitrosamines that can cause cancer. I was shocked I had never heard it till I read it in a medical publication ! I've been eating this my whole life ! Do not heat nitrates at high temps and avoid processed meats please.. Vegetables with high nitrates can improve your heart health, but cured meats may increase your risk of cancer. Nitrates are also added to some foods, such as meats and certain varieties of cheese, to prevent the growth of bacteria and improve the food's taste and color. Why You Should Avoid Lots of Foods High in Nitrates.. Experts think that the antioxidants (such as vitamin C) in vegetables with high nitrates help prevent their breakdown into nitrosamines. When your body breaks down the nitrates from vegetables, it makes nitric oxide instead of nitrosamines. Nitric oxide increases your blood flow and blood pressure, keeps your heart healthy, and helps your body make hormones and other signaling molecules. Foods high in added nitrates, such as cured meat, aren't high enough in antioxidants to keep them from breaking down into nitrosamines. Eating a lot of foods with added nitrates can increase your health risks for: Methemoglobinemia in infants (blue baby syndrome) Development of cancer, especially digestive cancers, such as colorectal, stomach, and esophagus cancer Complications during pregnancy Foods With Added Nitrates Some cured meats have nitrates added to preserve them and improve their color and taste. Examples include: Bacon Bologna Canned meat Corned beef Deli meat Ham Hot dogs Pepperoni Salami Sausage 😬Yikes !

I get a bacon called naked which is just salt ..sometimes I buy pork chops and I put it in a bowl with salt and yoghurt over night. The yoghurt makes it tender and the salt makes it like bacon! I am not sure what the legit process is for making bacon but I had a recipe years ago that did this and realised it turned pink like bacon! The recipe had whole limes in it and cream! The first time I made it was amazing but I've lost the recipe so I have tried to make it and never been as nice as the first time. The limes kinda go soft anyway. Maybe you could buy pork and salt it yourself with sea salt at home!

@@Padraigp Nice. I'm trying my best to avoid all processed meats and those with GMO or meat additives to preserve it. I buy fruits veggies coop farms and I am looking for local farm raised natural meats. So expensive though to eat healthy. But we have to try right 👍 The government should reward natural food providers and tax the bad food corporations to pay for it IMHO.
@PadraigpАй бұрын
@sgalla1328 absolutely unfortunately the government doesn't work for us right now. They work for the corporations. Id say a smaller amount of better food costs the same as a larger amount and doesn your body more favours at the end of the day. I im really lucky my co op works on donations so when I'm broke I can get food for 20 cent and when I have money I pay it back. I try to give the going rate for organic food and sometimes I give more and sometimes I take more. I also live in that area where there is an eco village no pesticides so I gather fallen apples and nettles and herbs and weeds and make nettle soup and freeze the apples to make juice or pies. Make tonics with weeds for ailments and that. Nettles I figure are better than any of those powders in the " wholefood" shop. And free! Meat id say is the most expensive. I'm also lucky that my rent is not insane. Its still half my income but there ya go. Not a penny to spare. When people have the tokens of exchange they can live and do and make when somone is hoarding it things stands still. Its so aweful a situation. For want of tokens ..that you can't take with you to the grave. Good luck to you! Nice chatting.🙂

Electrolyte imbalance..? I am struggling badly with my legs/feet feeling heavy and burning (could barely walk) I think I had some type of Acidisis as well as low potassium/magnesium. I had regular cramping and developed shortness of breath. It was scary. I used 1/2 teaspoon Cream of Tartar (Potassium) in a large cup of water along with a tiny bit of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). I have been sipping this each day for a week as well as eating potassium and magnesium rich foods (carefully keeping track of numbers)and using my oxygen machine while being very easy on my muscles. I noticed pain relief from the first cup within several minutes..must be careful though. You don't want too much or too little in your system. But this is same type treatment hospitals use for Hypokalemia* (low potassium levels), they just do it intravenously.. I am slowly getting better. So much better than I was. That’s is counter productive as banana is pure carb and sugar which contributes to heart disease and fatty liver. Get daily need 4700mg of potassium by eating a big bowl of green salad with olive oil and lemon. I sometimes add electrolyte that has potassium.

Thanks Dr. Li. I have PAD and is experiencing swollen feet presently. Your lecture is an eye opener this morning. U are a God send this morning. Your lecture was very informative and detailed. Much learned and will be shared and practiced. Have had four surgeries by the Vascular Dr. but often wonder how effective they are to my health. Now I fully understand what may be happening in my body and will surely pursue Health Care to correct same. VELRINE PALMER.

My mother trusted the vascular surgeon that inserted a graft. I asked him about sepsis and he said low infection graft - it killed her!! He gave her iloprost in the ward which I thought made her sweaty and agitated and she had that sepsis going around her body I am sure. They rushed her to theatre and she died 2 days later. She was 92 and very strong and had a great brain. They operated from afternoon to late at night on a very elderly lady? Said she held her own for the first 4 hours!!! I feel when she went to see Miss De Vriens and was told you have no pain I will discharge you that was a huge mistake. Bless her she tried everything to relieve the discomfort at night and made socks and sat in a chair in order to get some sleep. Why when she was on a ward for 2 weeks did they let my sister clean the wounds? I found out too late that she was doing that. Awful time and has made me wary of surgery. Angioplasty would have been safer as the anaesthetist recommended. Surgery was not safe.

My current Primary Doctor dont make in person appointment, he seems to be satisfactory by making telephone appointment. He never asked me whether I am healthy or any complaints (nobody want to hear complaint I know) but isn't that his job to find out the well being of the patient under his care. What he did would always be I'll order blood test for you.

@@Sumayya538 I know, it's not easy to find Doctors who truly care about their patients. Most are just any other folks who work M-F and take a lot of vacation. I dont know where you are but that's the reality of Health care system in the US. So sad but true, So Expensive for less care.

The lecture is interesting. Interestingly, the functioning of nerves is dependent on angiogenesis. I once saw a video of an assistant professor at a well-known university describing how a leg injury takes place. Stem cells are distributed around the wound. These are trapped in the extracellular matrix. These cells then transmit signals to each other that activate these stem cells and repair the injury. Thus, if the extracellular matrix cannot pick up these stem cells, or the stem cells are unable to receive signals to initiate repair, for example, due to nerve damage or an impermeable extracellular matrix, the cells are unable to initiate injury repair. Maybe it would be good to add some pictures. I don't think there to put photos of rotting diabetic feet. But instead of a long explanation, it would be appropriate to indicate on the blackboard how veins transport blood back and other phenomena associated with description.

Thank you! Excellent education! I got some nerve damage in both feet by the toes 8 months ago when I got a fungal infection. I used Sangre de drago (from Ecuador to heal that) which worked but still ended up with that weird feeling in my feet of nerve damage. I since majorly cleaned up my diet...eliminated fat, meat, and dairy and lost 20 lbs. ER doctors and podiatrist says circulation in feet is great but I'm thinking maybe I was pre diabetic but even though I'm way healthier I still have this nerve damage. I'm 75 but doctors say my health is outstanding.... people think I'm 55 as I've been eating brown rice and tofu since I was in my 30''s. But now I'm getting tingling in my left hand at night when sleeping but if I wear wrist guard at night and B vitamins (naicin) then no problems so they are thinking carpel tunnel syndrome as I play guitar 3 hours at gigs every weekend. So possibly that but still worried about circulation issues as I lost some hearing and sone near vision as well. I know heart disease can be reversed with diet so I'm majorly doing that! Cholesterol and BP going down as a result! Just worried but don't have any symptoms you describe...wounds on feet heal fast. No swelling! Doctor checked my hand today had me make a fist and pushed on an artery in wrist then let it go.... blood returned in less than 3 seconds. She said circulation is good. All blood work came back normal! Your thoughts Dr. Li??
