Knowing that hair can be silky, wiry, cottony, spongy and semi silky hair made me realise that even though someone also has type 4 hair means that its not going to look the same on me. Seeing these youtubers who have silky type 4 hair and realising my type 4 hair is coarse and wiry has given me more realistic goals

My hard truth is simplicity. I no longer watch naturals making diys for 20 inches overnight.I believe in process that leads to progress.I want my 1/2 an inch a month not 36 inches overnight. If it'll grow 36 inches overnight it'll fall overnight.I love learning from my mistakes and if I make it a learning process it'll work for me. Just like we women give birth to babies and not 50-year-olds So I don't think I'll try rice water, diy growth oils, and masks for"extreme hair growth" *not meant to discourage anyone*

A good lesson I've learned is to not be too dependent on hair tools like a comb or brush. Finger detangling has been a game changer for me in terms of less shedding as well as "knowing" my hair better since I'm able to touch it more. Great video!

Happy New Year to YOU!! 🥳🥳🥳 I remember back in the day when I had Jheri Curls, my hair grew long effortlessly and realize because you had to keep it moisturized, so I apply that same concept now, except it does get hard in the cold seasons, and I'm older and lazier now, but yes...MOISTURE IS KEY!! 🙌🏾

I’ve learned that our hair is going to grow regardless but how you manage it will determine how you retain that length! I love low manipulation styles and when I do my hair, I’ll twist it back and leave it all week for work! It’s worked so much for me

Hey! The front section of my hair acts like it’s a stranger on my head. Lol. I recently started treating it different than the rest of my hair. I multi-mask or multi-product(?) and have recently started to separate that section while styling. It shrinks the most which leaves me with a mullet. Lol. If I do a twist out, I’ll single twist majority of my hair and flat twist that section. The majority of my hair became moisture trained fast but since I’ve started treating the front section differently, I’ve definitely notice a difference in frizz and definition! I just thought I’d share since we have a similar problem!

I have all of the type 4 textures even though its mostly 4c with a bit of a and b in the front and I ligit have some dead straight stands of hair around my temples I hear that my great grandmother had some straight strands of hair too so I am guessing that is where it comes from. I am natural for a year and 4 months now. At first I thought the straight ones were probably strands that I did not clip off the relaxer properly along my hairline (cause I relaxed over my hairline to put in weave 2 months before I went natural) then about after 3 months of being natural I realized that it was my natural hair that was growing straight and decided that I would cut off all the straight strands cause I hated how it looked. Eventually I just accepted that that was how it is an even though it's not my favorite thing about my hair, I love all my hair regardless.

I had the same problem when I big chopped!!!! I never saw my own natural hair in my life and never hear of multitextured hair. When I realized I do I was sooo upset..I thought I cut off my pass shoulder length hair for THIS. Fast forward almost 3 months later...some of of the areas that are multi are starting to at least blend very slightly. I guess my hair need some adjustment period???? I just treat each section differently (I also have a million different density and shrinkage levels). Not going to let it drive me crazy anymore. It is what it is 🤷🏾‍♀️.

My resolution is to become more self-disciplined (for better time-management & to help me reach personal goals). When I'm indecisive, I tend to procrastinate and that sometimes does not end well. I just want to tighten up while remaining forgiving (of myself) when I slip-up, as long as I don't give up. My hardest (hair) lesson learned was accepting that what works for some of my fav hair naturalistas simply does not work the same for me, but sometimes a change in product or slight change in process / technique makes all the difference.

I'm at year 6 and I just discovered my type 4 hair needed true hydration!!!!! Thanks to the quarantine I was able to discoer that what I thought was wet was not hydration. Now my curls are thriving!!!! Also, you are absolutely right about do not knock it until you try it.. a type 2 youtuber and stylist made a reel about product amount when styling and the tip she gave was to take your thumb and index finger and circle the section of hair. This will let you know how much product you need per section. This has changed my style time, dry time, less flaking, saving money because my products are lasting longer. I feel we are all in this together and can certainly learn from one another because at the end of the day we all have the same goal: healthy, full, vibrant, long hair to the best of our hairs' ability

Thanks for being honest with us regarding you “texturizing” your hair, when in the end all ii is is a relaxer...anyone in the ethnic background of /kinky/coily/curly group that puts any type of chemical to smooth, soften, etc...is simply in denial, delusion because our hair already has “texture” regardless of how long they keep the product on their hair to break it down. Thanks for also telling your viewers to stop comparing other people’s hair to theirs and just for them to try their own hair regimen that works for them. I love the conversation about telling yourself that your hair can't do that but what about other people, some of them have afro hair themselves telling us "your hair can't do that". I grew out my hair many times in my life but I always covered it under wigs and braids while growing it out. This is the first time I've big chopped it and I'm wearing it short. What motivated me was my ex-hairdresser told me it was because my coils are so tight "that's why I can't manage my natural hair" she assumed that's why I kept going back to the relaxer. But truly I just didn't have the patience to wait for it the get long enough to style the way I wanted. That impatience cost me bra strap long relaxed hair 😥 but I am determined to grow from this experience

My hard truth in my 11 year Natural Hair Journey is that my haircare routine will never be a simple one, one size fits all and is forever....and I've embraced this! We all have to pick a struggle and we must be adaptable. Now, my hair health is recovering and thriving from a dye job. I didn't realize that right at that point, I needed to modify my haircare routine, so my ends suffered...especially with a long period of protective styling. I am diligent with my routines (except trims....yeah yeah, I know) but my hair needs evolved and I was a bit tone deaf to it. Now, I've learned to read my hair when it speaks.

You can SAY it again sista. 1. Hydration, hydration, hydration in the form of water is my #1 priority otherwise it breaks. 2. Protective styles don't do Jack for me since they prevent me from keeping up with #1. 3. I'll drop some coins on plants for slip before I spend any more money on toxic gels. 4. Consistency is key! 5. Trims! Yes we want length but If I want to retain length those old ends gotta go bf they colonize and cling to ma comb and knot up the whole village. Nobody got time for a sore scalp. 7. Not all expensive products will work! I purchased RevAir however I came to realization, I was using it as a cop-out to avoid doing my hair so I aired that baby BACK to the seller for a refund. If I must there are free & cheaper blowout alternatives 2-3x/yr. After trying too many things, I learned anything coconut ain't it! Too much protein for my Wool, it makes it feel like a tumble weed.

@@LaToyaEbonyHair I want to try your suggestion of saturating my hair more often but not sure how. I'm afraid of how long it'll take to dry.

My hardest truth is that your hair won’t grow to its GREATEST MAXIMUM potential with wash n go’s over twists/protective styling. I like to wear my curls out because I feel feminine but I try to keep it twisted so my hair can reach waist length as quickly as humanly possible 😩 I’ve been following Sherea del sol, you, and jenn j almost exclusively for hair advice. My hair is 3c but it needs a lot of love to be frizz free.

I think it was Urban Bush Babes who showed me that even identical twins can have different hair characteristics. Both twins had 4c hair but one had a lower volume, thicker strand of hair with lots of sheen and was lower porosity and the other had fine strands, dense volume but lower sheen and higher porosity...I said to myself okay girl if even they have different hair then NOBODY has the same hair just learn yours and do you

My hardest truth: I could never afford this. I'm always on a very very tight budget. When you did the $25 budget video I was like, gee that's like 500 South African Rands, too much. Right now my hair is splitting mid length and I don't know what to do.
