Why would anyone write an attempted suicide scene where someone "can't get the cap off"? Why not make it realistic by having the girl take the pills, OD and barely survive because her friend found her in time? Y'know, like an ACTUAL ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. That way they could build some real tension and show the consequences of bullying graphically, instead of making the audience burst out laughing.

The real joke is that level of personal targeted attack would warrant police intervention on grounds of "harassment" which was a thing before the internet existed. This movie is clearly a case of adults who grew up without the internet and not understanding shit about it and having no experience to help the children who now have to deal with it, so they blame the internet itself rather than their own inadequacy. This shit will last exactly one generation (the baby boomers and older), and they're already on the way out.

Eh, them showing up for a supposed suicide attempt isn't really a bad thing. But it looks like the girl is still taken to a hospital afterwards? I guess she would need to be admitted somewhere to be on a suicide watch and receive counseling, but if she didn't take any pills, there's no need to go to a hospital.
@karkahn4 жыл бұрын
@@dirrdevil a year late but w/e. it might be different in other countries, but in canada even a thwarted attempt like the one the movie tried to portray would result in the person who is suicidal being taken to the hospital and put on a 72 hour hold in the psych ward.

Cyberbullying is going to be a thing of the past a few years from now. Once kids start growing up with parents that lived in the internet golden age they'll start being taught the basic rules of using the internet 1) think through literally everything you put onto the internet, including private messages 2) don't click on suspicious adds or links 3) only download things from websites you can confirm to be legitimate 4) be wary of malicious users like hackers, scammers, or online predators 5) when you inevitable watch porn, delete your history and cookies Its thats simple

This is such an abhorrent rip off of the book 'Destroying Avalon', I'm surprised they weren't sued. The book is very good, it doesn't blame the internet but the people who use it as a tool to take bullying beyond school walls. It's about a girl moving to the city and having a bit of difficulty adjusting and ends up rubbing a few people the wrong way. Typical, normal shit. She becomes close friends with some kids who you could call outcasts. One of which, who becomes her best friend, is confused about his sexuality, this confusion which is exasperated by bullying. So the book takes this real, plausible scenario and adds an anonymous message board that the students use, on the board a user starts spreading shit about Avalon which, in turn, makes the real bullying worse. The book at no point says it's the internets fault and there is nothing Avalon can do because they're talking about her, not to her. Typical high school drama shit. The book even goes into detail about the bullying experienced prior to the board and it shows that this abhorrent behavior exists regardless and the internet is simply a new platform for these cunts to exercise it. I don't want to spoil the book too much but as someone who was bullied in highschool, the paranoia, shame, guilt, fear, obsession is all there. It Perfectly captures the mindset of someone in that situation. Seriously, shoot this movie between the eyes and read 'Destroying Avalon', it's really good.

Honestly, my favorite part of this movie is and always will be when the gay character talks about how he messages this boy he liked in the group therapy. Not because of him, but because of the crazy, outlandish story the writers came up with. So a group of straight bullies find a gay kid, basically date him online, exchange heartfelt, personal information and I'm assuming NSFW goodies, and they they ACT IT OUT in front of him? In the LOCKER room? That sounds like the setup for a particularly strange yaoi highschool AU fanfic.

I'm pretty sure the character's supposed to be a teenager. Yeah, I don't really get why they cast twenty-something-year-olds to play teenagers. I mean, I guess it's because real teenagers are too busy with school, but they could at least get someone who *looks* that young. When I was younger, I always assumed that's just how American teenagers looked (I'm from Australia), and I actually thought Lindsey Ellis (a.k.a. the Nostalgia Chick) was a teenager when I initially discovered her in the early 2010s. And what made me realise otherwise? Discovering that she earned her degree in film studies in 2003. *That's* how much they actually fooled me.

Those are the most unrealistic bullies I have ever seen in my entire life. I cringed every time they spoke a line. God, the writers of this movie are awful. Let alone the fact that they don't know how to write a sympathetic main character or a realistic portrayal of the Internet. Yes, shit happens and it can get really bad, but the moral is don't do stupid shit on the internet. Enough said. Man, I hate getting riled up over movies but this one is trying to push an anti internet message that doesn't make any sense. I'd totally be okay if they were addressing the issues of cyberbullying realistically and teaching kids how to be safe online, but this is just blatantly saying "THE INTERNET IS BAD!!! THE DEVIL IS IN YOUR SCREENS!!! THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS DELETING YOUR ACCOUNT!!! ITS ALL OVER". God, I hate this stupid ass movie. The people who made this movie should choose a different career instead of ruining the greatness of film making.

Nerd Nuf Said I never watched this movie ever, all I needed was this review. I feel bad for you, my cholas actually had some god damn sense when choosing movies to show us in class. Speaking of health class, and CALM, for my fellow high schoolers, we were never shown this movie, just that documentary called Bully, or something like that, never movies like this. Maybe Canadian schooling is different, or this is actually shown in Canadian schools, then I'm just disappointed.

19:20 I have been bullied for years. You do that, it gets WORSE. You're giving them what they want, so they want that more. That literally accomplishes NOTHING.
