This movie is clearly a case of adults who grew up without the internet and not understanding shit about it and having no experience to help the children who now have to deal with it, so they blame the internet itself rather than their own inadequacy. Why not make it realistic by having the girl take the pills, OD and barely survive because her friend found her in time? Y'know, like an ACTUAL ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. I'm pretty sure the character's supposed to be a teenager. Yeah, I don't really get why they cast twenty-something-year-olds to play teenagers. I mean, I guess it's because real teenagers are too busy with school, but they could at least get someone who *looks* that young. When I was younger, I always assumed that's just how American teenagers looked (I'm from Australia), and I actually thought Lindsey Ellis (a.k.a. the Nostalgia Chick) was a teenager when I initially discovered her in the early 2010s. And what made me realise otherwise? Discovering that she earned her degree in film studies in 2003. *That's* how much they actually fooled me.

I am not sure of the specifics but casting someone underage is more difficult because those actors are subject to child protection and labour laws.

In middle school they showed us this short film about bullying. It talked about how most bullies have their own problems and it's portrayal of someone attempting to commit suicide was far better than this. It showed the girl taking one of her mom's sleeping pills because the torrent of hatred from someone she thought was a friend was keeping her up at night, but the first pill doesn't knock her out immediately so she takes another, and another, and another until she collapses on the floor. Her mom finds her and she goes to the hospital to get her stomach pumped. That whole scene fundamentally upset me, because it was so well executed and the threats she got online where only a small part of the whole thing. This movie tries to act like teens are vulnerable if they even touch a phone/computer.

I think the person is referring to the scene where Taylor responds to him by saying "It's not really the same thing. I mean, you really are gay. What they're saying about me isn't true." I thin he/she is questioning why the movie seems to think that he should take the insults because he "really is gay."

im rewatching some of these old reviews and also like. I think one of my biggest problems w these types of movies is the cyberbullying is NOT the type of cyberbullying that CAN make people suicidal. Someone going "Ur smelly and uglie!" is barely going to do shit, cyberbullying is the act of EXTREME bullying (constant never ending death threats, people ganging up on you saying slurs and how you're worthless, people managing to dig into your personal life and scaring you with that info, etc etc etc u get my point), things that are way more horrible. Movies about cyberbullying, even now yeeeeears later, never do it right. they always use cyberbullying that is incredibly tame and are not as bad as the shit u can actually hear irl. I was bullied IRL and the shit they said was way worse then these faked out scenarios, the real cyberbullying i've seen is always worse and more morbid. But they are too afraid to show cyberbullying (and hell, bullying in general) how it /actually/ is. Which just makes it seem like a lackluster mockery of the real thing. And I DO think that cyberbullying can be an issue, someone making fun of some random celeb and hating on them isn't the same as a targetted attack by individuals or a hateful community, it can cause people incredible damage. There was a woman recently arrested for cyberbullying HER OWN DAUGHTER. But someone sending you the bare minimum of hating is not nearly as serious, they need to acknowledge the worst aspects of that kind of stuff, but they don't.

The movie, dear God, is just terrible. It's almost crystal clear that the directors don't know anything about the nature of the internet. Don't get me wrong, cyberbullying is a legitimate problem on the internet, but that's the risk of surfing on the internet. It's like if the internet had Terms and Conditions, that would be the first line, and many people just ignores it right away and click on "Agree". I saw people telling other people to kill themselves and that they're a product of a failed abortion, and guess what? They just replied with a 😂😂😂😂, as if nothing happened. If you don't want to deal with them, you can: a) block them, b) report them, or c) press the power button, turn down the Laptop, and live your own shitting life without having to see shits that would make you want to get the cap off
