I have my 500SA mounted as FH/RH but I turned off the Atmos voodoo crossover and have the switch set to surround. I thought you are only supposed to leave it on if upfiring atmos. I did the helicopter Atmos demo with the disc and with it set to surround and it sounded like the helicopter was circling above me.
@Youthman5 жыл бұрын
You are correct Lawrence. The manual isn’t very clear but we had some discussion / debate in one of the Klipsch Facebook groups so I reached out to Klipsch and the Product Manager said they are updating their documentation to make it more clear that the only time you should use Atmos switch is if you are upfiring and bouncing the sound off of the ceiling. Wall mounted Atmos should be set to surround
@lawrence091515 жыл бұрын
Youthman thanks for the reply. I ended up coming to my own conclusion because the whole reason I bought this version was to turn off the Atmos crossover. My thinking was that if I would’ve had regular bookshelves (or ceiling for that matter), they wouldn’t come with Atmos crossover as they’re already up high and no need to simulate(which I have tried with poor results with 8ft flat ceilings). Thanks for all the hard work with your videos!

I have two questions for you? Can you use 3-way stereo speakers as your front left and right speakers ( 12" woofers ). The second question is can you take RP 600m speakers put them on a Shelf 16 in from the ceiling and have a simular sound as the atmos speakers? The reason I'm asking is I only have one set of Atmos speakers and my amp has plenty of power to supply everything what should I buy a second set of Atmos speakers?
@Youthman4 жыл бұрын
You can use any three speakers as LCR. You can use bookshelf speakers as height speakers. Just aim them towards your listening position. It won’t be exactly the same as having speakers directly above you but it will still give a good Atmos effect.

@Youthman5 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question. Most companies give us 60-90 Day Review period, and then they pay to have it shipped back. I can typically purchase the item at the end of the review at a discounted rate simply because they would rather not have to pay to ship it back to them and they don’t want to have to try and sell it used. There are times that I really liked the product and have worked out brand deals to make additional videos on the product beyond the review in order to keep the product.

I love it when someone clearly doesn’t know me, my character or my integrity. 😀 I realize there will always be skeptics and I’m ok with that. I I currently own 3 LaScalas in my HT setup, RF7 III in my 2ch setup, RB5 in my daughter’s bedroom, RF7 II and RC64 II in my sons bedroom and RB61 II in my office. I have owned probably 50 pair of Klipsch speakers over the years. Out of those, the only ones I really didn’t care for were Academy, KG series and the RT10d and 12db subs. I believe I have a good handle on what’s considered garbage and these are far from that. Are they the best Atmos Setup, no. Will you get a more immersive experience from (4) in-ceiling speakers? Absolutely. But I do feel these have their place for certain applications Or someone can’t or does not want to cut holes in their ceiling I definitely do not feel the reference premier speakers are junk. I cannot however say that for the entry level reference that they sell at Best Buy. My ears do not personally care for them nor do I feel they look nice. They look and sound cheap to me but that’s why I haven’t reviewed them. As far as ssponsorship, I only partner with companies and products that I believe in. Marantz sponsored several videos and I had no problem stating it gets ridiculously hot. Never once has a brand told me or even asked me to say one thing or another. They simply offered to sponsor the video or videos, send me the product, and I have free reign to give my honest opinion of them. My channel isn’t for everyone. Have a great weekend.

Thanks for the video! Very helpful. I'm just confused at 5:41 where you mention you have the "Dolby Atmos Rear Surround installed as height Atmos speakers." Just for clarification, are you installing them as rear surround and connecting them to rear surround connections on the AV receiver with Atmos enabled (or Surround enabled) or are you installing them as height speakers and connecting them to height connections on the AV receiver with Atmos enabled? Also, could you switch out the 502S you installed on the Left and Right Surround with the RP-500 SA, and would you set them as Surround or Atmos if you did so?

I also have pioneer bookshelves and center channel I got on a killer sale and an old (90s) pair of pioneer book shelves from my dad to complete my 5.0 surround set up. What do you think should be my next purchase. The fs52 pioneer towers to match the center and bookshelves, a sub (I am looking at the polk sw10), or upgrade to a more modern avr looking at pioneer and Sony mostly, probably would go with the Sony since it's cheaper and I'm on strict budget and you reviewed it and said it's perfect for starting out. I can only get one piece next month what do you think my move should be based on my set up so far. Love the content keep it up. 2 days ago (edited)

@loganf65175 жыл бұрын
Just a few comments. It seems like your surround speakers are very high, does it make the sound seem like it's above you? I understand that Klipsch sent these to you, but towers as surrounds in a smaller room are massive overkill. I recently went from tower surrounds in a 5.1 setup to the RP-502S, and it was an improvement even though the cabinets are much smaller(though not small by any means). When you hooked up the RP-8060s, you're using your receiver to power them? You don't have a separate amp for your LaScalas to power your front stage? Also, does your room limit your ability to put in overhead speakers(this is holding back my room for sure, the difficulty in wiring in-ceiling speakers, the bouncy sound seems gimmicky)? Everything looks good! Keep the videos coming.

So how did the new Klipsch speakers sound compared to the ones you had? They look pretty sharp. Did the Klipsch subs perform better than the SVS? Also, what exactly does the “ATMOS/Surround” switch do on the rear height speakers? Good video
@ramonbmovies3 жыл бұрын
Nice setup. But you're running only 140 watts max receiver when it powers only 2 speakers; yet you have essentially 6 surrounds (2 of which are monster towers) and three monster speakers (2 of which are monster towers) in the front? Do you get enough power to all the speakers?
@Youthman3 жыл бұрын
Having a dedicated power amp is always a good thing. However the AVR had absolutely no issues powering this system at Reference volume due to their efficiency. Speakers with a lower efficiency would likely require an amp.
@feedthemonkey832 жыл бұрын
Question : is this setup also good when you don't have a house and maybe only can use medium dB levels in a flat? Those subs really got me scared to buy the stuff, as my neighbours will think the roof comes crashing down on them, I would expect.

I'm just getting into home theater and I heard it's bad to overpower speakers as well as underpower them. If I were to get this exact system and match the wattage of the front soundstage and receiver.. would I be overpowering the rear speakers since they can't handle the same power the fronts can?
@Youthman5 жыл бұрын
Absolutely not. It is better to have an amp that is rated higher than your speakers. This allows you to feed them clean power without the risk of clipping (which will destroy a speaker). Remember, you have control of the volume, regardless of how large your amp is. I used to run 220watts into Klipsch RS52 for years which were only rated at 100watts RMS and they sounded amazing

Hey! Can you give a speaker equipment list with model numbers just for the Klipsch Reference Speakers? I'm trying to build my own system but mis-matching on their website is confusing. I'm curious which ones specifically you used in this video. Also, are your existing LCR speakers and SVS subs active with the Reference speakers simultaneously or was this video more of a how-to install?

From what I understand you can use any(!) type of speaker for Atmos - so wonder why the klipsch RP-500SA have the atmos toggle switch? What does it do really *and how would that differ from using normal speakers for Atmos? Also curious if you can use rear presence speakers mounted high on the wall and aim them downwards along with a pair of surround back sitting lower and more centered on top of a book shelve on a Atmos setup? - Basically trying to setup a 11.2-channed 3D sound field
@Youthman5 жыл бұрын
The difference is the Atmos switch is for when you are using them as upfiring speakers.The switch modified the crossover.
@mini59me245 жыл бұрын
@@Youthman ok, but comparing this toggle and what it does to conventional speakers...? Since conventional speakers works just as well I wonder if this just is a sell, sell, sell gimmick ? Any comments on my rear presence etc setup? Thought that might work if I aim them down towards the listener(s)

This was an amazing guide, thank you! But I’ve been doing some research before starting my own setup and I found that most “affordable” AVRs can’t fully power more than two speakers without having to decrease the power for the rest of the setup. So for this setup is that Marantz really enough to power ALL of that? I’m just so confused on how I should choose my future AVR. For reference, my setup will probably be a 5.1.2 system.
@Stan_the_Belgian2 жыл бұрын
I have the marantz with pre out so you can choose to add power amps. It gets really hot, even with power amps...

@@Youthman about “affordable” AVRs not being able to power a HT setup. It is dependent on what AVR you’re using, if you have it as a pre-amp out so each speaker can have their own power amp, or whatever. The Marantz you have looks to me like what, the 7015? That’s a $3K(ish) reserved. That should be enough to powers something less sensitive like Klipsch.
@Youthman2 жыл бұрын
If you re-read his comment, he stated they can’t “fully” power a system without decreasing the power to the other speakers. That is 100% true but not just for affordable AVR’s but also higher end AVR’s as well. The more speakers you add, the less wattage per speaker. You can certainly power an entire system with an AVR. You just can’t buy a 140wpc AVR and get anywhere near 140wpc when you have 5, 7, 9 or 11 speakers.

Hey Youthman, what's up? I'm getting ready to install four Klipsch CDT-5800's in my 20x20 room. I run Magnepans as I'm a music aficionado but I'm including some ATMOS speakers for theater as well. I was just wondering what your distance was between your 5800's if you still have them? Are they directly above your seating, left and right of behind, distance between front and back and left and right, thoughts, regrets, plusses and minuses etc. Thanks in advance!!

Hello I have a Pioneer VSX 933. In every advertisement as well as on the packaging you can see "Dolby Atmos" in the ad. Can you tell me what I should do to see it on my device? Already have two BluRay's with sound in Dolby Atmos, but it is not shown. All devices are connected with HDMI cables. I cannot select it with the remote control either. What am I doing wrong? Does it matter which HDMI input on the AV-R I plug it in?

No problem Jim. On the back of the speaker there is a top set of binding posts (black and Red) and a bottom set (black and red connections). The top red and black would be connected to your Front Atmos or Front Height connection on your AVR. Let me know if you have any additional questions
