I learn a lot from watching Emma's videos. Now I know that I too can design games
@fepeerreview3150Ай бұрын
2:50 Regarding the new browse roll out, this is due to a failure of project management. I work in project management and there is an approach specifically popular with people who work in anything tech related. Their idea is to try to get something "out to market" as fast as possible. So they develop the product in discreet pieces they can release sequentially, instead of designing a comprehensive package with everything in place and then releasing the whole. Expect to see more bits and pieces, such as a search function, emerge over the next 2-3 months. This approach is called Agile. In my opinion it fails more often than not. As a PM I refuse to have anything to do with it in my work.
@TheLoneWolf3755Ай бұрын
I will never understand the mentality of "push the product out however unfinished it is". I mean, don't people say first impressions are everything? If someone's first impression of your product is it's unfinished, that ruins the lasting perception of your product. Just look at AAA games like cyberpunk. It was a total loss and failure at launch because corporate wanted to rush it out, and even though now it has finally "finished" development and is a fantastic game, it will never see the success it could have gotten if the release was delayed.
@zeph0shadeАй бұрын
@@TheLoneWolf3755 I think it's often got to do with the fact that in our modern iteration of capitalism, customer satisfaction and even sales are a secondary concern behind investors/shareholders. My understanding is that in order to keep your investors, well, invested, you have to be constantly "improving" your product/service all the time. You don't have to release something "good", you just have to show that it's constantly being added to in some way. So it almost hurts them more to release something in a good state, because what if there's no room to expand it later? More profitable to offer a bad product, say "oops haha sorry about that, don't worry we'll fix it" and then implement mediocre updates over as long of a stretch of time as possible, so investors see something that looks like "progress" every time they glance in your direction. They're always trying to play the long game, and that often involves more-or-less deliberately sabotaging themselves in the present if they're convinced they can afford to take the hit. But that's just my theory. My capitalist dystopian theory.
@katdixon8390Ай бұрын
I've heard some people say that Agile works well when it's implemented properly... but never heard anyone say "yup, Agile is implemented properly in my workplace!" It seems that some middle manager at KZbin didn't grasp that your "Minimum Viable Product" is still meant to be an *internal* build, and just because MVP has "viable product" in the name doesn't mean you should be pushing it out to users yet! I'm sure when they finally go to add a search feature or some other chunk of functionality, they'll discover that something about how they built their MVP is not optimal, but now it can't be changed as easily because everything's already gone live. And the code will turn into a pile of spaghetti as they keep having to code around early decisions that are now difficult to change.

Dude these things suck so hard, idk when you first saw them (it sounds like you've just seen them in the last month or so) but these crimes have been blasting my eyes with more colors than cocomelon since june-ish

I recognize multiple of these games. They’re literally just mobile games you can get on the app stores of at least iphone, so probably Android too. They’re cheap and nondescript enough that KZbin can let them exist on the platform with little cost to them.

This feels more like a regression than a sign of everything apps. There is probably a good reason no major social media platform has tried hosting browser games since Facebook.

why are the google doodles there from this video i saw the magic cat academy (i am a fan of that one, there are 3, one is quite recent, although i only saw 1 and 2 there) and the boba tea one (this one was for a the time abt boba, fun thing is that there are alot of references, i dont know much abt google doodle but the references i know are with the 2 cats (the black one is forom the magic cat academy and the orange is from the challenge island one (it is prolly one of the longer google doodles)) and the ghost squad (an actual multiplayer google doodle where 2 teams compete in a round of ghost things i forgot, sadly it stopped working a long time ago))

I'm so used to people joking about being sponsored by raid Shadow Legends that when it happened it took me way too long to realize it was a real sponsor xD

This is like early 2000s flash games. I suspect a lot of the old once will be retooled to work with this "platform",

Alien Hominid is a masterpiece compared to what KZbin Playables has to offer.

Emma is my favorite Tall Man Run let's player. I've been saying this to everyone for well over a year now, but I'm glad that we have hard evidence that I can back up my statement with.

The only good thing about playables is that it has the magic cat academy trilogy archived on it.

35:11 Random fun fact about this game, it was a google doodle awhile ago, and has references to pther google doodles and services, for ex. The frog is their weather mascot, the two cats have had their own games which are actually pretty solid, and the four ghosts at the end also have their own Halloween game.

The donut "OF" is for Odd Future, short for Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Em All. It was a rap collective that Tyler the Creator started in the early 2010's. They've since disbanded. Frank Ocean was a part of the group, as was Lionel, who had a major role in the tv show "The Bear".

I can confirm that the other people in "Guess Their Answer" are not actually real people. It's a single player game designed to make you think it's multiplayer. You can even turn off your wifi after the game is loaded and it will play just like before, so clearly you're not connecting with anyone else.

Shame you didn't try out Stealth Master. I've played it on my phone before. It's actually not too bad. It's a top down shooter, with different weapons and characters to choose from. It's probably the one that is most like a real game out of the whole selection.

this feels like its from an alterative universe at some times. like you actually like these games and all you do is stream in.

Doing an ad for a mobile game on KZbin inside a video critiquing KZbin mobile games is a bit of a flex 😎

It's wonderful that people could make great games like Pokemon for the original Gameboy, yet we can't make fun games for our phones. Cool beans, you know? I used to play a lot of solitaire, if you played it with the Vegas rules and do draw 3 it's actually lowkey amazing. My mum was good enough at it that she could pretty easily break even, I was less skilled. I was amused to find out that my mother's mum played so much solitaire she wore out a deck of cards, like the most worn down deck of all time.

There are many fun games for phones, though??? And versions of computer games FOR your phone. Pokemon Go for all ages. Animal Jam Play Wild! For kids and teens (although some of us adults do play it for the nostalgia). School of Dragons used to be another one available on phones. The original versions of the Angry Birds, Where's my Water?, Epic Stick man, Temple Run, and other games. Heck, Hogwarts Mystery isn't that bad of a game, even for F2P people. There are literally SO MANY good, fun games for phones. You, apparently, just haven't looked too well if all you're finding is boring games.
