Funnily enough, I knew Ben for a couple years because we were in the same server together on Discord. He was overall respectful, but did have some weird kinks and opinions he shared among other members. I remember him saying "I like jazz music, so I think black people are alright." It is important to understand though, that much of Japans culture, was invented post WW2. It's a combination of western, mostly American, culture and Japans history. Japan was utterly, and completely, transformed by the reconstruction by the allies and mostly America. That's why for example, you see so many anime characters with blonde hair, European features. They were fascinated by the people occupying their country. Transformed it to one of the most repressive, brainwashed societies in modern history, into a thriving democratic economy. Full of art and media. All that stuff skyrocketed AFTER and during American occupation.

It's not illegal to do any of that though. Cartoonists can theoretically produce anything, and various court battles have so far upheld this. Is it distasteful?, maybe; but it's not an actual crime. (unlike many real life incidents involving actual minors that twitter users have been arrested for)

I used to get into arguments with this guy on Twitter a few years back. He was always making dumb excuses for why he drew sexualized versions of underaged cartoon characters, he seemed to genuinely not understand that it was still wrong even if they're fictional. Hate to say it I knew Ben personally. I was a NSFW artist and as a former watcher of him at the time, seeing him in my sphere was...pretty jarring to say the least. He's definitely on the spectrum but I don't have anything notable to say about him as he was quite nice to me and pretty insightful on certain things. He's not a bad person just really...weird and sometimes might not express himself in the right way. I've definitely encountered way more polarizing figures while drawing NSFW. You think Ben is bad? I never got the impression he wanted to engage with minors or anything, he just seemed to be really supportive of artists being able to express themselves without limitations. However he never brought it up as a defense of CP specifically but rather just in general. He's a "art is for all" kinda guy rather than "CP is good" like Amos Yee or something. Defending shadman was a bad idea as he drew real children but as far as I know, Ben's disavowed stuff he's said and or done and is trying to be better about it so I guess as a former friend of him I'm happy for him.
