How you say Megumi is gone when we have so many people that potentially know how to manipulate souls and bring megumi back. Gojo being gone is one thing, as bad as it was executed. Megumi being gone? Without any sort of ending to his development or goodbye? If that were Inumaki, Todo, or even yuta, I might have said why not. But not megumi. He’s one of the main protagonists. He’s been central to the story and there is no way he’s just gone. Gege is setting up some major return with megumi and maybe gojo, and you’ll see. This is not me trying to cope or anything. I think Yuji will defeat Sukuna with the new form of cursed energy that Kenjaku mentioned in Chapter 202. I think that Yuki's research on the soul will help him. Kenjaku is expecting Yuji to attain this new form of cursed energy and is why he expects so much from Yuji as he stated in Chapter 136. The death paintings disappointed him and he said Choso was normal. He created the death paintings because he thinks that there must be much more to human potential. He always considered the possibilities of cursed spirits along with sorcerers and that the new form of cursed energy may be attained by raising cursed spirits to the next level. This is why Yuji will be the one to achieve this new form of cursed energy and this will be Yuji's "I'm Him" moment.

I don't think Yuji's plan was to yank Sukuna's soul out of Megumi's body but rather yank Megumi's soul out into Yuji's body once Sukuna was immobilized. If Yuji did eat the death painting wombs, which are basically his brothers at this point, than him switching with Sukuna would basically guarantee their deaths if Yuji acted as a prison again.

While I agree somewhat. I think there is a time limit on a full takeover of megumis body. Also we don't know what's in that book. If the body and soul are one then there is a chance a percentage of Megumi is still there. Call it whatever you want but many animes have done incarnations with full bodies. They also do the " I lost bcoz they defeated me before the transformation took effect" harken back to when Yuji for Sukuna in megumis body. Megumi had massive amounts of control dropping Sukuna output from nigh 100% to 10%. Gege gave you hints that it's possible F.Y.I Transformation is not Assimilation. Assimilation there is no return from scientifically and proven fictionally and many works. While Transformations usually have a catch 22 to them. Just pointing that but out. If the soul is the body. Then that means the body reflects the soul. So when Sakuna changes to the four armed version. It's showing that Sakunas soul is the main one (pilot) now. Megumis soul tanked Gojos infinity remember. So it's still there. If the soul is the body. Then maybe us seeing sakuna in the none four arm form while fighting gojo means that he hadn't swapped souls with megumi yet and is the reason megumis soul tanked infinity if it makes sense. This could be the reason sakuna said at one point that keeping the form of megumi would be more beneficial (this sentence was added after finishing the whole eassay 😅). What I mean by that is basically the same as when sakuna would take over Yujis body forcefully. But nothing bad would happen to Sakuna since it was still Yujis body and soul taking the damage. Same thing as when Sakuna ripped yujis heart out. Sakuna remained in yujis body unharmed. What I am trying to say by this is that Megumi is 100% not dead. Yujis soul swap ability might not have worked unless sakuna changed into his 4 armed self. Since if he did it while sakuna looked like megumi (megumi was the pilot), then yuji would switch his soul with megumi and not sakunas and it would be useless. Which is why Gojo had to weaken Sakuna enough/push him to swtich (pilot). So that Yuji can then swap with sakuna and somehow make megumi wake up or something. I am sleepy right now and none of it might make sense or it might make a lot of sense idk. But last thing, we do not know if Yujis ability is to swap souls. Which is strictly I take your place and you take mine. Or if he can manipulate his and others soul at will. Which would make it so that he could leave his body and share the same body with another. While his body is in a sort of comma per se. If he can just move souls around at will. That means him and kusakabe didn't "swap" souls and swapping isn't a condition of the technique. But instead Yuji simply moved his soul into Kusas body and Kusas soul into Yujis body. Finally, since sakuna knows how to manipulate his soul. I also think Megumi will never come back, if you think about it Sukuna used HIS body and soul to tank all the damage in the fight with Gojo and killed all of his strongest Shikigami, even if Megumi where to come back he doesn’t know RCT and thus would probably be braindead or at least heavily brain damaged since Sukuna spammed it and he also tanked unlimited void in Megumi’s body. So even if theoretically Megumi came to his back he would be missing an arm and some brain cells and also his shikigami.
