Although I do give Harden alot of credit for the blaming of not winning the chip, it can't be all on him. Harden was an awesome player individually. The 30, 40, 50, 60 point triple doubles were fun to look at but I don't think he was a team player though. He was really into heavy, heavy iso ball while the rest of his teammates just say around and watched. No ball movement, no cuts, minimum player activity when he wanted to score. And he wanted to score alot. He "was" very useful with the P&R's and lobs but that was it as far as playing "team" basketball. He wanted everything revolved around him. He got a coach fired (McHale)and wanted the perfect coach for him (Dantoni) that wouldn't ever question him so he could do whatever he wanted whenever he wanted. His defense was always lack-luster and after trying to beat the Warriors, he got cp3 traded, which was the worst thing they could've ever done. Cp3 was awesome. He was the perfect fit with the rest of the team. If it wasn't for his injury in 2018, Rockets would've won the chip ganranteed. They were up, and had the momentum against pretty much the best team the NBA has ever seen. In 18, the Rockets had the best record, the number 1 seed, that was their year to win it. But a hammy changed everything. Without cp3, the offense lacked a true floor general and leadership. That's one of the reasons why the 27 missed threes happened. Having a coach that's not equipped to make adjustments in the playoffs, that just sticks with the offensive game plan of a ton of Harden iso one on ones, with everyone standing around the 3 point line ready to jack one up is not conducive to winning basketball. They needed cp3 out there to be cp3 and conduct the offense appropriately like a "REAL" floor general. So all in all, Harden should take alot of blame. For him, it was "his way or the highway" You had a general manager and a coach that gave him everything he wanted and bowed to him whiched screwed everything up so badly that nobody wanted to stay and lefted him. Thus not long after, he realized the team wasn't winning anything anytime soon so he forced a trade....the end.
@joyfulfishman54452 жыл бұрын
I don’t think that’s what he wanted, it was his coach and front office thought was most effective. He didn’t want to play that style of ball, which is part of the reason he requested a trade
@mxhughes2 жыл бұрын
I agree 100% with this post cuz I've said the same things about Harden.He ostracized his own co-stars,he was using his franchise player status to get every single thing his way and ease out of being committed to defense or real teamwork.There's a reason you really don't hear former teammates of his come out and give him credit as a leader that ain't by coincidence.I agree D'antoni was the worse choice of coach for a guy like him cuz D'antoni himself is a slacker coach he pays attention to one limited style of basketball and never has a real system that he forces players to being versatile on either end.Morey was another one a egotist gm who was pushing the analytics agenda and ostracized players n coaches who really coulda helped Harden get beside himself.Harden can only blame himself he had really good co-stars n role player teammates to make it happen but he's a choke artist n a half ass player

I was glad when he left. We weren’t going to be able to build a new team around him out of nowhere, and he wasn’t getting younger. Tbf to Harden, nobody made it being on a team coached by D'Antoni. Great coach don't get me wrong, but his style of coaching is too taxing on the players. Ive seen it year after year from Nash, to Kobe, to Harden. You cant run your players that hard that fast every single night and expect them not to get gassed out by the end of the season. Hell most players a season is 82 games. To make it deep into the playoffs and maybe the finals on a D'Antoni fast paced system no way. Every single team has gassed out under his system. Every one. Entertaining as hell to watch but the human body can only do so much for so long without proper rest.

I look at Harden's time as a Rocket as underwhelming. No, he did not lead them to a championship or a Finals appearance, but it was still a fantastic and mostly successful stretch. Obviously he is partly responsible for why they never broke through, but it was not all on him. We should look at the teams he faced, the coaches he had (and the systems they implemented), the front office decisions, some of the teammates he had, etc. Everything has to go right for players or teams to win and unfortunately, something always went wrong.

None of those Rockets teams were favored to win a chip, the best team Harden ever had was that 2018 roster with CP3, Tucker, Capela, Ariza, Gordon. That team playing heavy PnR with shooters, and forward thinking with small ball and switching defense, that style alone with James’ incredible scoring and playmaking is what gave the Rockets a real chance to beat the best team ever assembled. unfortunately CP3’s hammy exploded in game 5 and the Warriors had our number from there on. The Rockets were never good enough to come out the West with Harden, like at no point in Hardens tenure were the Rockets a better team or favored over juggernauts like OKC, San Antonio, Golden State or the Lakers so I never understood why Harden tenure in Houston was considered a failure it reminded me of AI's tenure in Philly where Harden's greatness simply had Houston overachieving most years. Like the closest thing to a legit sidekick Harden ever had in Houston was an old hobbled Chris Paul. Because I remember Harden coming out of college and how he reminded me of a stronger better shooting version of Brandon Roy, at some point it got lost in the sauce just how much work he put in and how it revolutionized perimeter scoring.

Now for his time imo he shoulda won MVP 2015, 2017 could go either way and should’ve won in 2019 but Giannis was just DIFFERENT. I Also believe the choker label is over blown but not totally undeserved. To say he’s a playoff choker plain out is unfair but to say he’s bad in crucial games is just. There’s 3 series as to why he gets this label or really 3 specific games, 2015 game 6 against the warriors 2017 game 6 against the spurs and 2018 game 7 against the warriors. These were indefensible but 3 really bad albeit crucial games out of over 100 playoff games over almost a decade and being called a choker ain’t fair to me 💀 but that’s my opinion. Also his “championship window” to me never really existed he was good enough to be a #1 but the only time he had a realistic chance was 2018 were I believe that the greatest team to never win a championship. But he faced the dam Avenger warriors 💀people picked the rockets just to be different and because they hated the warriors. Still a top 4 SG all time top 25 player all time and when healthy I believe this year he can very well be a top 10 level player.

Clear as day that Russ was rushed back from injury and playing injured in that playoffs. Go watch the series aganst Lakers he wasn't driving to the paint because his burst wasn't there, instead of hating and tryina push a narrative, tell the actual story.

Vogel just outcoached MDA badly. He schemed him very well. Makes it funnier because he game planned agaisnt Russ which made them win the series. He attacked Russ on defense and offense

Personally i don’t think he was ever going to win because they were never more talented than the Spurs, then the warriors, then the Lakers. They all had elite defenders that could shut him down, then what was the other option for the rockets? When he got guys that could help shoulder the lord in Cp3 then Westbrook, they were injured come playoffs.
