DDR4 is great and unless you plan to blast setting the cheaper prices is fantastic. You can get a 32 GB kit for less than $50. Pair this with the fact that DDR4 mobos and CPUs are cheaper and it’s fantastic. Unless you’re building an all out build with a budget over 1200, DDR4 is fine.

If you’re going with LGA 1700 i3s or i5s, by the time you start to consider an upgrade, there will probably be better options on new platforms if your focus is gaming performance. That means it’s less likely for people to just by an overpriced old i7s or i9s down the line. Therefore, getting DDR5 kits for “future proofing” can be less economical.

DDR4 is still going to be relevant in 2 years time. In all likelihood, it’ll still A first gaming PC is very rarely going to be a behemoth so opting for a 12th or 13th Gen Intel with DDR4, or an AM4 B550 board with a 5000 Series CPU is extremely cost effective and offers exceptional performance per dollar. The 5600X is still great, 3600MHz DDR4 is still great, etc. Don’t let this corporations fool you into upgrading every generation, it only serves to line their pockets.

Right now if you aren't ready to overpay for expensive components it just doesn't make any sense to fo for ddr5. Ddr 5 supporting motherboards are expensive, CPUs for ddr5 platform are pretty expensive and overall for 700$ you can purchase parts whuch are way more efficient for the same price and therefore get better performance. If you aren't going for lates gen cpu's it is useless to go for ddr5. Ddr4 us far from dying, considering that some platforms still use ddr3 with no issues. It will take years until ddr5 will get picked by masses.

9perc avg fps more and 5perc 1perc lows at most common resolution - 1440p. It is for higher end build and up and in selected title. It is clear to me, what has way better value even if I get new build. If I go for 4k, gpu would be bottleneck anyway.

I have the same doubt whether to go for ddr4 or ddr5. One more thing is important - motherboards that support ddr5 are much more expensive than ddr4, especially if we're talking about higher quality ones. I think the most important thing right now is to go for a new socket (AM5 or LGA 1700), because the current gen will still be supported. Intel changes sockets more often, while AM5 should be ok for a few more years. By then, the price of both ddr5 motherboards and RAM will drop.

Ddr5 at faster speeds does seem to show some performance boost for games but usually for nost gamers it isnt worth it and the performance isn't very significant. 6400mhz is the sweet spot anything above is priced ridiculous and I had issues finding 2x32g sticks for 7000mhz and up for example. If you use other appliances like video editing, 3d rendering, and music production related things like with VST's that is where RAM speed and higher ram like 64g really counts. If i eas building my oc only for gaming I probably would've just done DDR4.

I mean just because something isnt new, doesnt mean it will suddenly die lol. Same can be said for other components, for example ryzen 5000 series is still amazing for price to performance and this will still be true in a few years. Hopefully this will change overtime, but at the moment ddr5 can be twice as expensive as ddr4 while only being a tiny bit better. If your budget is 700, then spending this much on slightly better ram makes no sense.

“Want it to last for 2 to 5 years or so” Jfc, bud. What a scam. You can make any good PC last up to a decade before upgrading anything. Just abandon your desire to have the top end PC that will play anything on Ultra at 4K with 500 fps

Ddr4 until ddr5 is the same price given the current performance difference. I doubt it'll make much difference until ddr5 mt are much higher than 6000 m/t
