I’ve had 4 puppies in the last 5 years. They bite, sometimes a lot and sometimes bad. They don’t mean it, they truly don’t. Please never give a dog away because of puppy biting. They are still babies and usually if you ride it out and correct them, it goes away in my experience. My pitbull, the best trained dog in my family was a big biter when she was a baby but we corrected that and now I can’t imaging her biting anyone

@@Cruzan9 Well, for short on TikTok, Instagram, and KZbin there's been a lot of drama on "Force free/Positive reinforcement only training VS Aversive training/balanced training" it's been horrible. There was another upsurge of drama when a girls dog was euthanized for biting 3 people and she only trained him with positive reinforcement and people were blaming her for not using balanced training. So zaks puppy training videos are really nice to see.

For the first time in my life, I have to worry about my dogs being outside by themselves. In the past, I've had Great Danes and Irish Wolfhounds. Certainly no birds of prey will attack dogs of that size. Coyotes aren't going to mess with dogs of that size, either (we have many Coyotes in our area). I now have an 8 pounder and an 11 pounder. They are never outside by themselves. If they want to go out an lay in the sun on a nice day, we stay out with them. That is my one "bummer" about having such small dogs! And what a nice surprise to find a Zak George video when I wasn't expecting one!!

For those of you worried about your small dog and birds of prey. It is EXTREMEMLY uncommon for a bird of prey to attack and kill small dogs and cats. If your dog is 10lbs or more, you're perfectly fine. Bald Eagles, Red tailed hawks, falcons can only carry 3-5 pounds MAX while in flight (according to Cornell Ornithology department). The exception is the Harpy Eagle which have rarely been spotted in the South Western United States. So don't worry about birds of prey they aren't what you need to look out for when it comes to your small animals.

I don’t even have a dog, but I love these videos! I have a vague plan to maybe in 3 or so years to get a dog - not sure yet whether a rescue or a puppy (or a rescue puppy!). I’m finding good trainers to watch so that when I’m ready I can prepare and hopefully train my future best friend so they can be safe, make lots of dog & human friends and we’d able to do lots of nice things together. This is my favourite channel - it makes sense that a happy, comfortable dog is able to learn and develop solid patterns of human-compatible behaviour. I hope if my dog-owning dream does come true that I will be able to train my little friend like this.

I started with the finger toothbrush but quickly moved to a regular toothbrush - it was pretty easy as my pup was 10 weeks old and chewed EVERYTHING.. I then brought out the sonic toothbrush and his reaction was hilarious (wish I had filmed it) but he seemed to like it after the first bit of shock..by day 2 he loved it- he is now 14 weeks old and when I bring out the sonic toothbrush he comes running and puts it in his mouth and LOVES me brushing his teeth (along with plenty of biting it)- it's so cute but since he is a toy Aussiedoodle he definitely will need daily teeth care. I love your videos and have purchased one of your books so far ( it's taking me longer to read it than I thought because I am single and older than you guys- and I haven't had a puppy for 14 years (my border collie recently died- she was the best- just like Inertia - she had the entire neighbourhood kids playing with her and now they come over to play with Sammi but don't understand that he needs much more sleep than Caydee did plus he isn't trained like she was....yet).. thanks for all the great info!

Another great video! I have a question about the puppy biting. You suggested that Bree take Veronica outside when she was jumping and biting. Does Veronica (or any dog) view that as a reward and begin to associate the jumping/biting with getting to go outside? It never occurred to me to take my pup outside when he does that. I usually try to give him something to chew on that isn’t me lol! But you’ve taught me (and therefore my pup) everything we know so I’m super-interested in trying this out and hearing more from you! Love seeing Bree doing more of the training with your guidance! So much fun to see Veronica and Inertia being such cute buddies as well! 💜

aww puppy biting is totally normal, they wanna play with you but to stop it, what i did with my dog, everytime she did that or bit in my hand or finger or whatever, i like squeaked, like puppies when they are with their mom and siblings, when they play to rough, one puppy squeals to show the other puppy that it hurts and the mom teaches them that as well i literally just had to do that a few times and my puppy knew exactly why i did it and stopped immediately and she hardly ever did it afterwards☺️ really worth a try if you have problems with that :)

Hey Zak, I'm having trouble. My dog is halfway potty trained. He will whine at the door when he needs to go first. However, now he learned that he can whine at the door to go outside whenever he wants. So, I stopped letting him out so frequently. Sometimes it's a real call and he'll pee a little before I correct it and take him out real quick. Here's the big issue now: he has learned that peeing on the carpet will let him go outside whenever now. So, now when he wants to go outside, he will first whine, and then pee, and when he gets outside, trickle a little before trying to romp around. It only took me a day to figure out this game because one time, in a span of an hour, he peed on the carpet 4 times so he could go outside. When he gets outside, he only does a trickle, and even though I've stopped letting him roam when he goes out, he still pees on the carpet whenever he wants to go outside. What is the best way to correct this behavior?

I think our Yorkie Heidi would love NomNom dog food, but our Bandit has a very sensitive stomach and if I only give him a small taste at the end of our meal, like a few green beans and a taste of potatoes he has really soft stools. Or, if I try a new dog treat because I can’t find his regular ones that he can usually tolerate, he has soft stools. I’m just not sure. Plus, I only have a small freezer above our fridge, so space is a real thing. I’d love to try it for them, but I don’t think so right now. Thanks for all your training help.

I'm on day 6 with our 8 week old Border Collie puppy and afraid that our 3.5 year old Border/Retriever mix is too aggressive with her. I'm right there with them every time they interact. Our three cats have yet to train the puppy. I think she's still too excited and too young to remember the cats can really hurt her. I'm hoping to phase in cat interactions slowly as puppy gets more used to our family and home.

I’ve seen a few TikToks and online sources saying that continuous fetch isn’t good for dogs because it interrupts the canine motor pattern and raises cortisol levels. Basically saying that they never get to decompress with the “consume” part of the cycle and just keep repeating the “chase” and “catch” part of the cycle which is high adrenaline. I’ve been a bit worried since learning about this and I’m not sure if I should continue playing fetch. My dog loves it, but he definitely does get too amped up sometimes. Can you speak on this if you have an opinion? would love to hear your thoughts!

Me and my 14 month old German shepherd who I rescued from a owner who kept him on he's roof and only he fed and cared for the dab and he used to work from 8 to 6 and mean while this pup was alone on the roof where he pooped and walked he was secluded and alone, he had a wife and some small kids but we got nothing from the previous owner as he was in a hurry to get rid of the dog who was almost a year old by then so when I brought him to my house as I have had rescued a lot of dogs in my life so everything was going well I have a big family we all live together and everyone including my wife, father, brother, sister in law and my mom love the dog and everyone was happy to give him time and affection and he used to roll on he's back so you could rub him all over so since day one he used to go on he's back the submissive upside down dog to everyone every time you pet him and he still had harsh puppy biting back then. So in like 2 or 3 weeks he started growling and trying to bite my brother if he come close or even feed him he would do that my brother used to take him on walks sometimes and feed him to time to time but he turned on him then when me and my wife took him to the vet as we saw some flees and ticks on him so the vet gave him a injection for it he wouldn't let the vet inject him while I was holding the leash he went crazy on the vet so they took him away from us and they got it, so the same day he was on the bed with me and my wife which he knows loves him a lot and feeds and pet him play fetch with him so eh my wife went to pet him as she was coming closer to him as soon as she pet him on the upper back leg he growled and lunged at her she went back in shock I told him to stop in a loud voice then every time my wife came near he started showing he's teeth so I grabbed him off the bed put him on the floor and then grabbed he's head and he's back so he couldn't bite or scratch me and he growled like he's life depended on it but I held my ground and showed him that by that time I was only holding him as I gave him a taste of my strength with a few shake and pressure for seconds he stopped and gave up, he became a better dog after that for me, I give him the most walks, the most food and treats, can rides, training and sometimes my wife and dad still walks him sometimes till now so he still shows my brother teeth growls at him he can't feed him or get him to leash up I tried to push him and showed him to stop being aggressive to my brother once before the bed incident happened when I put him on the floor cause he was gonna bite my wife but since then my wife has pressed on the gas she feeds and walk the dog and play with him everyday but after a while of be in scared of my wife all of a sudden after the bed incident but even when he has stopped showing her teeth even shaking hands and giving kisses eating off hand by my wife is cautious that it might scare him if she pet him so she doesn't touch the dog. Please help if you can on how to fix my problem I want him to love every one so he receive am the love he always deserved we don't know he's past he came to us with a injury on he's leg, now he I trained to follow many commands and even stared walking without leash only with me though he only listens to me all the time other people have to so harder to make him listen he barks at all the bikes and cars and would chase them barking from inside the house he can so with me just outside the house in position and won't say a thing but as soon as I go he will bark at bikes and cars I they at driving slowly or loudly he will bark at everything who passes including people even at other house member if they are doing something else or leaving without him. What to do. BTW I'm a huge fan stay blessed and please help me. Jaaykhaan@gmail.com

I have an 11 week old Golden Retriever. She loves to chew and bite so we’ve been working on that. She likes to play fetch but doesn’t like to drop the ball once she has it. Any tips to teach her to drop it?

We tried treats initially but drop it didn’t seem to work and he would just come back for treats and the leave the ball. So I stopped with the treats, stood still and said leave, it worked. Took a bit of time but now it’s fine. This works for almost all situations, even trying to chew the door on opening, now we just say leave and it works. So what I guess I’m saying is work with your pup and see what works for you but definitely keep practising, good luck

Hey zak, we have a new puppy and a two year old dog who love to play together but...... We also have two smaller older dogs who our new puppy will purposely jump over, run into, bark at, and aggravate them until they run at him barking. The puppy thinks they're playing and keeps doing it. How do I stop this?

Completely off subject, but do you have difficulty driving electric car from Louisiana to Alaska? Do charging stops add too much time to your travel? Do you find charging an inconvenient ?

How would I train my puppy to stop barking? He's a small pomeranian and tends to bark a lot when he hears my roommates. I need him to stop barking so I can work remotely.

I saw a hawk carry a rabbit in its talons right in front of me. My new puppy is a three month old Maltese that weighs two pounds. So yes, I will also keep an eye on the skies.

My puppy is 9 weeks and the person I got him from said not to bring him outside because of fleas and ticks? Is that true?

Hey Zak, is this a horrible idea to lightly put your hand around their mouth and keep it closed when they are barking or about to? I tried this recently and the dog (a smart but dog reactive GS) kinda looked at me like oh you don't want me to bark and she was quiet. I'm not sure if it would work again and I think you'd probably really want to know the dog won't bite you, but I'm not sure if it really would occur to her that we don't like barking otherwise, she don't understand the words be quiet or shhh but she did seem to understand that pretty quick.

Can you talk about training hounds. I have a beagle pup and she is nothing like my 9 year old lab lol
@janhankins911
@janhankins911 2 жыл бұрын
Of course she isn't anything like your Lab! Beagles are scent hounds, Labs are retrievers. They have a lot of different genetic stuff going on in those bodies. As for training a hound, it's pretty much the same as training any breed. That's the beauty of positive reinforcement. It applies to (and works with) all species of animals (including human beings). You will have to realize, though, that your Beagle is a scent hound. She has been bred to sniff, so you'll have to deal with her obsession with sniffing. If you're training and she catches a scent that piques her interest, you will probably do best to set aside the training and let her "sniff herself out". You can get her involved in Nose Work and that should satisfy a lot of her "need to sniff". Otherwise, training her is just like training a Lab or a Great Dane or a Chihuahua (with the exception of bending/stooping and some of your body positions to accommodate your dog's size).

How do you get your dog to sit in the front seat while you drive? My puppy cries and cries while I drive when I have him buckled in the front seat. Do you have a video about training in the car?

Walking away from her as she barks is negatively punishing the behaviour… is there a way to help her barking/anxiety without using any punishment?

Noticed the same thing! Creating a safe environment and rewarding calm behavior + giving it time. Taking small steps and not taking it too far is the key.
