I would love to hear your opinions on the Hunger for Words experiments, where owners are training their dogs to communicate via voice-recorded buttons (such as FluentPet)! I'd recommend checking out the channels hungerforwords and What About Bunny, among others, as they have been incredibly insightful about the thought processes of dogs. Personally, I find these experiments incredibly interesting and overall _monumental_ in the study and understanding of dog psychology and intelligence! I'd even love if maybe you guys could give it a try (maybe with Inertia?), since you already have dog training under your belt to help you with the button training.

It's okay! It's amazing to hear someone working hard from early on from the first time out. Just remember to have patience and that you're as much of a beginner at this as the dog, and sometimes the small things you don't realize you're doing or the energy you have when you do it affects the dog's belief in what you say. Just stay dedicated to fulfilling your dog with purpose and happiness and you'll make it!

Zak, I just wanted to say that I watched probably 40+ hours of your videos before I bought my dog. He turned five a few months ago. He is so much better behaved and trained than basically any other dog I’ve met that didn’t go to an actual behavioral school. You are a great teacher.

Even though my pup is now 3 years old, I still find these training videos very helpful. He is a Husky and still can be a bit stubborn at times. One of the good things about him was how easy it was to potty train him. He had an accident twice in his crate and a couple of times in the house and then that was it. My dad kept saying you rub his nose in it when they potty in the house and I told him that isn't the way you train them. I took him out every 2 hours, right after he ate, drank, woke up and am thankful I work an overnight job that makes it easy to do those things. Can't wait to see how Biscuits training goes.

We are getting our tiny little Biewer Terrier puppy on Saturday, and this series (together with your book) will be invaluable. Its so nice to see a small dog being trained--it gives us more of a connection. Our breeder reported that when the sibling group went to the vet's office for their first vacinnations, our little guy was the first to walk right up to the vet--totally unafraid and confident. We hope to be able to build on that confidence to help him be the most awesome dog he can be. Thank you!

@@indysnoop1864 my tip is to take the puppy out every hour or so, while he’s in the learning stage. (If that is too burdensome, ask if a friend or family member can help you by doing part of it). It’s also important to immediately clean away any accidents, and NEVER make them feel bad for the accidents. Sure you can tell them no and let them know “hey, that is not where you go”, but do not punish the pup. If there are any accidents- that is on you (either you didn’t pick up the cues, or u were not consistent enough/ did not supervise them). Secondly, praise them when they do their business outside or on pads (and I mean lots of praises, I even gave my pup treats during his first time). In addition I would let one pee stain stay on the pads for a day so that he would know that is where he is supposed to go. Later on that was not a problem. At first I had plenty of pads scattered around the house, but I gradually got rid of them one by one. Now my pup only has one pad in my bedroom where he sleeps, and he never uses it, unless I wake up too late. He almost always without fail, takes in use the pad. As for picking up on cues: It is important to take out the pup almost immediately before and after a nap, after playing, and depending on your dog- after eating. My pup usually takes some time aka a couple hours before digesting his food, but I’ve heard some only take 30 mins so it all depends. Another cue is if the pup usually follows you around and then suddenly starts wandering off, or starts sniffing the ground intensely and going in circles, they probably have to go. It may seem like a lot, but if you put in a lot of effort in the beginning it becomes SO much easier in the long run. I went from going every hour to just a couple times a day.
@randomrandom3128
@randomrandom3128 2 жыл бұрын
You can also use the term “go potty” or if you prefer to separate them “go pee” “go poo”, whenever your dog is going. During my first walks, I would chant “go potty” “go potty” as if I was haunted whenever my puppy did his business hahah 😂 At least he now knows and associates “go potty” with doing his business, so he knows what to do.

@@lukasz96it works. Especially in conjunction with a correction. I don't understand you non positive zealots thinking you have to be rude to your dog to teach him things simply cuz you think you're dog is purposely being a dick. There are obviously more serious things being outside that need more attention which is fine, but inside should be a safe place to learn the basics. You're probably positively reinforcing yourself and are just denying it.. who says no then leaves their dog clueless and frustrated? You obviously supplement his negative behavior with something better and reward, it ain't difficult.

We just got our nine week old shiny new Lab service dog puppy “Joy”. We are doing the “raising” for an org that provides service dogs (emotional support and disability) for veterans. We’re having a blast and are at about 75% success on potty training. Its been super cold since we got her about a week ago. We took her to the post office to offer Saturday morning puppy love to the patrons, and to the drugstore for an errand. She was occasionally shivery and nervous, but always happy to greet people. The org does a great job desensitizing for early development like touching bodies all over esp. feet and collar areas, and providing exposure to novel textures and surfaces. I’d love the opportunity to have a session like the one outdoors that you shoed here but its so damned cold! Any suggestions?? We’ll be training in a fairly vacant mall in a few weeks but I’m looking for other indoor environments where we could explore.

You are the best Dog trainer I've ever seen or heard of! I plan to get a puppy in a few years and have been watching your videos so I know exactly how to train a dog. I've learned so much from your video (started watching kona's videos first.) You are definitely the only dog trainer I need to learn from.

Started watching your videos in the past few weeks to help me train our *two* new huskies. They learned "sit" within 24 hours and are learning "down" and "come". It's funny to watch them immediately try to lay down after I tell them to sit because they think that's what I'm going to ask them to do. 😂 So I've been trying to mix it up for them and keep them on their toes. Sometimes I think they're too smart for their own good. Looking forward to seeing more of your puppy videos!!

I get my new pup in about 3 weeks. I was so excited to come across your training videos. This is my first to view and I have watched it twice. I am very secure and confident with dogs, but I am learning so much on how to perfect techniques. Oh, and remembering what it is like to have a new puppy after 12 years. Thank you. Barb

Yay new episode! Thanks for this series Zak! I'd love if you go over things like separation anxiety & shy puppies, my 4m old toy poodle is fearful of new people & situations, I'm always trying to socialize her but she barks at new people and hides behind me. She also is afraid of dogs...she is going to a puppy socialization class soon tho. She also seems to have mild separation anxiety, barks & whines constantly if left alone, even if she has toys & treats.

Great videos! I am learning lots by watching your videos. Could you do a video on the facts/fictions of dog dominance mistakes? examples like never letting them win in a game of tug of war, letting them climb on you while you're on your back, never have a staring contest and lose, etc.?
