FINALLY fixing my noisy, creaking, scooter stem - for good on my ZERO 8X.
In a previous video I tried to make a spacer to stop that noise but couldn’t get a permanent fix. This stem solves that problem. If you have this scooter or a 10X you NEED. THIS. STEM!
It made the scooter so much more enjoyable. I constantly got looks from people looking over their shoulders cause they hear me coming from a mile away......not anymore!
Super excited to share this with you guys, I hope you enjoy!

If this is a known issue I’m actually surprised that the company that makes this scooter isn’t just shipping this part out for free to people that bought these expensive scooters ! Seems like bad business to charge customers for something that is actually caused by the manufacturers !

I was thinking the SAME thing! It’s already a lot of money, but it just makes you feel sorta like you got got a little. But just playing the other side of the fence.......perhaps there will be an updated version coming out soon. Maybe it was an oversight and future models will be better. But I’m totally with you on that!

Pretty much all scooters with this (bad) folding design have the same issues and problems. Kaabo Mantis, Dualtons and Zero 10X (Unicool t10-ddm). It's really weird to me why they didn't just copy the stem design from high quality mountain bikes where these issues were figured out and solved a long ago, using something called a headset start nut, inside the stem itself, along with side bolts that clamp the stem very sercurely.

Man you're awesome and I really enjoy your videos! I am debating on getting this scooter and one of my main concerns was the creaking sounds from the original clamp. It's not very convenient having to carry the tool around with the rugged clamp but it's definitely worth it if it fixes the creaking sounds as well as the wobble. I also have a couple video request! Can you please do an off-road test with the Zero 8X? I know the Zero 10X has better off-road capabilities because of its bigger tires and slightly more powerful motors but I don't want to get it simply because it's a little too big and it has pneumatic tires that'll get flats. And maybe in the future you can make a video of installing and testing the Falcon Pev DNM Air Shock Suspensions on your Zero 8X? Falcon Pevs website states that it's for the Zero 10X but the Zero 8X shares the same dual suspensions as the Zero 10X according to Rev Rides website which means that the DNM Air Shock Suspensions should be compatible with the Zero 8X as well. This adjustable air suspension claims to have multiple benefits including more comfort compared to the standard suspension and I think this will make up for the lack of comfort found on the Zero 8Xs solid rubber tires which are a not as comfortable than the pneumatic tires found on the Zero 10X. There's a full video on Falcon Pevs website on how to install it and it seems like a fun and easy project! Thank you for all your helpful videos and have a good one!

Gerardo Arius thanks so much for the compliment! I really appreciate that. As far as your video requests, I can absolutely do that. I’ve been considering the air shocks for a while now since I saw them post that video too. And the off road request as well. I haven’t even really tested it off road too much for myself so it would be cool to see what it can do. I am meeting up with a fellow ZERO owner in a few days. He has a 10x. It will be cool to feel the difference for myself. I’m quite happy with the power I get out of the 8x. I almost don’t want to know how much better the 10x is cause then I’ll just want to get another one to have both! Haha. Thanks again!

@@ADayintheLifeofMr23Awesome thank you and I had a feeling you already knew about the air shocks haha! You're awesome man and I can't wait to see what you and your friend come up with off-road! Haha I wouldn't blame you at all if you bought the 10X after that test drive because it's definitely a step up but I think the Zero 8X is a slightly better overall package because of its sleeker design, and smaller footprint with similar specs as the Zero 10x and most importantly, the solid rubber tires! I remember you posted a video of you taking out this massive nail that was stuck in your 8X rear tire and I thought man, good thing he didn't have the Zero 10X hahaha!

Thanks for posting that. Couple of questions. Where did you get new clamp from ? Its difficult to see in video, the 5/32 nut is in-between the 2 lips ? Do you have to screw it in to slide down clamp, then release screw to let it clamp properly ? Wonder why they went with imperial size ?
@ADayintheLifeofMr23
@ADayintheLifeofMr23 4 жыл бұрын
www.falconpev.com/sg The screw does sit in between the 2 clamp posts. It is required to tighten that bolt to get it to slide up and down. What I do is tighten it until I can slide it up or down then do about a quarter turn back the opposite direction to loosen it so the clamps can really squeeze down on the stem. I did think it was a little odd to have 2 different sizes for the bolts. Only thing I can come up with is the 5/32 was an after thought once they did a trial version and realized it was necessary to use the clamp. Maybe it was the only size they had around at the time and it stayed....🤷🏻‍♂️

Hey, I have an 8X but I have a really loud rattle from the back suspension when riding, is this something you've experienced? it sounds like there may be something loose inside, near the rear kick panel. Also I saw when you added the new clamp that you didn't touch the alignment screws, have you been using these (the ones on the step under the clamp). I've rounded mine off and need to get some new ones, but can't find them anywhere to order. Thanks in advance :-)
@ADayintheLifeofMr23
@ADayintheLifeofMr23 4 жыл бұрын
Gareth Glover hello! I wouldn’t say I have experience exactly that. Sometimes over larger bumps it does make some rattling but nothing consistent. I have found that over the course of riding, some screws do need to be re tightened down. Hopefully that’s the case and nothing is rattling around inside. When I did open up the deck to inspect the battery I didn’t really see too much inside there that could come loose to cause a rattle so like I said, hopefully some re tightening is all it needs. As far as the other screws, I didn’t have to mess with those really at all when I made the upgrade. But getting replacements shouldn’t be too difficult. Your local hardware store should stock those screws. I don’t believe they were custom made just for the scooter. Thanks for the comment!

Thanks for the video. Just curious as to your 8X choice over the 10X!?! Most say the 10X is more comfortable ride, but how much more comfortable is it really? I know that's a personal opinion and subjective feel. Can you please share your thoughts on how you came to pull the trigger on the 8X over the 10X? Thank you again for your time and help.
@ADayintheLifeofMr23
@ADayintheLifeofMr23 4 жыл бұрын
No problem at all! I had a cheap little electric mini bike thingy that got me hooked on these types of vehicles but I kept getting flats on that thing. So really the ONLY reason I chose the 8x was because I was tried of changing flats every ride. Now I know the tires on the 10x are beefier and way more resistant than the tires I was riding on but I still was just so over changing them. I did want the extra power of the 10x but for me at the time I really REALLY didn’t want a flat tire and so that sacrifice was justifiable. In retrospect I probably woulda went with the 10x if I were to go back in time. I don’t regret the 8x at all. I really love it. But a friend of mine has the 10x and I ride it for a short while and I almost wished I hadn’t. Ignorance really is bliss sometimes......it overall feels like a better ride. It feels a little more sturdy to me. The air tires make for a smoother ride. My biggest gripe with the 8x tires is their grip around corners. If you hit any bump and I really mean ANY bump....the back end wants to slide out. So you really have to use your weight and be paying better attention on the 8x. Air tires would grip the ground better at high speeds. And my friend hasn’t had a single flat and we took some off road trails and everything together. So like I said, looking back I probably woulda went with the 10x over the 8x. Hope that was helpful! Thanks for watching!

Another Great video mate, got my 8X just the other day and still hasn’t made these noises as yet so I guess it’s just a matter of time. I’ve been eyeing this clamp for a while so I’ll just have to order, not only it has a purpose but looks great! Question off topic, what output does your charger have as I’ve been given a 54.6v which I believe is for 48v batteries and charges mine till 54.4v with still the remaining 5th bar to go. It doesn’t fully charge it which im furious about as I have no idea what’s wrong! Doing some research I see that most 52v batts (8x/10x) use a 58.8v output charger and I saw on one of ur vids u have 58.4v on the meter. Can yourself or anyone reading this confirm what charger u have pls? Ps. I have contacted my seller but like most of the world they have holidays. Thx

Emille S thanks a lot! I will have to double check the output of my charger when I get back home today. My voltage fluctuates. First week or 2 I had it I would always have a full charge of 58.8. I remember watching a video from Falcon PEV about battery care and they advised to charge after every use. It could have been coincidence, but it seemed like shortly after I started charging every time I would start to lose capacity. The last time I charged I only got 57.9. I did notice the last time I was on revrides website there were two options for battery manufactures. It appears the newer versions of this scooter are being outfitted with Samsung batteries. But for yours not to show a full charge status does appear like something may be wrong. Double check in your setting and make sure your power is up to 100. I know what of the settings is to limit power but I figured that was for acceleration not battery capacity. But maybe double check there first and I’ll let you know in a little about my charger. 👍🏼

A Day in the Life of Mr. 23 Thnx for the qik reply. Yeah I have my settings on 100 and acceleration to 5. Hmm type of battery manufacturer might b a factor, the shop I bought off reckons all his Zeros come w/ LG, I’m so tempted to find out but I don’t wanna rip off the 2 strips of grip on the deck to get to the screws and open up. Lol .9 of a drop in capacity wouldn’t worry me too much unless the drops increase, I do hope charging constantly doesn’t affect battery quality. No probs will wait for your reply. Thnx

Emille S well.......I hate to be the one to tell you but I think the charger may not be correct. The specs on mine say output is 58.8v at 2 amps. But at least the good news is that SHOULD be a simple fix. At least you can still ride it in some form until they get you the proper charger.

That’s exactly what I wanted to hear! We’ve actually learned something here, I’m pretty sure this is what the issue is. 3 of my other mates actually got the Zero 9 48V and they all have the same 54.6v charger as me but have no issues. Thnx heaps for validating! On another note, I’m thinking of doing some sort of wrap on the stem and some parts of the deck to personalise and also to protect. Ever thought about doing this and perhaps a vid? 😬

Emille S I have actually was thinking about doing some vinyl wraps on it. Interestingly enough, I work for a window tint/wrap company so I do that sorta stuff daily. I was more considering wrapping the arms that connect the wheels. I love the red on the 10x but there’s a lot of grooves and stuff which would make it a lot of work for what it is. But the main deck is something else though. I’ve always sorta felt the logo there was kinda generic looking. Would be cool to black it out. 🤔 I might have to give that a go. Thanks for the inspiration!

I found that even with this upgrade i still had a little noise now and then so I ended up also putting grease right where both parts of the stem connect. You would need to remove both bolts and lossen the upper ring in order to lift the top part of the stem a bit. Then I tried as much as I could get some grease through the small slits on the side. The stem now is crazy silent. I’ve gone on a 20km ride and no noise what so ever.

Hello! Only thing I can think is the middle screw. If you don’t use the 5/32 hex wrench to loosen the screw in between the 2 clamps, the clamps can’t get tight enough. So try loosening that screw more and then tightening the clamps. Try alternating when you tighten the clamps. I will get one pretty tight then tighten the second then go back to the first and tighten the clamp a little more. I’ve found alternating allows me to get more torque on the clamps. Hope that helps!

Hey there. Big bumps do make a decent rattle. I THINK it’s a slight bit of play in the suspension. If you lift the tail up JUST enough to relieve some of the weight off the back end you feel a little big of wiggle there. My bolts are tightened down as much as I can get and still has a little bit of movement. I’m not 100% but that’s where I believe the noise comes from on big bumps. Thanks!

What really bothers me is the wobbly stem and handlebars more so then the sound it makes. It especially bothersome when riding my 8x on rough terrain. Does it fix the wobble?
@ADayintheLifeofMr23
@ADayintheLifeofMr23 4 жыл бұрын
It does address a majority of the wobble. There is far less travel now with the stem. I feel tons more confident and comfortable riding. I honestly hated those handlebars. I had to change them out. What I would notice is the mechanism that locks the folding portion of the bars wiggles loose all the time! I felt like every 5 minutes I needed to re tighten the bars. But definitely the stem helps with flex and wobble of the stem. Thanks for watching!

Hi I just tried to install the clump with the spacer on my scooter but now I can’t get the stem to straighten. It’s like the spacer is in the way. Any ideas how to go about this? Thanks
@ADayintheLifeofMr23
@ADayintheLifeofMr23 4 жыл бұрын
bojna1 yes...it’s a tight squeeze with it on. I did struggle with that when I first put it on. Hopefully I can explain this in a way that makes sense.... try to spread the scooter apart. You might have to stand on the deck and push it forward if you can’t get enough force to pull it. In the video go to 1:58 you can see I put my hand on the deck for counter leverage as I pulled the stem forward. It didn’t look like it from the angle I got but I did have to use a decent amount of force. Hope that helps! Let me know.

A Day in the Life of Mr. 23 hi thanks I did what you said but you know what the creaking sound is still there. Is there something i’m missing?

A Day in the Life of Mr. 23 I opened it up again and now seems to be ok. There’s just a tiny bit of noise but nothing t close to what it was. You know it seems like that creaking noise is actually coming from higher up the stem. Anyway for now the noise is gone 😃 thanks for your help. Love your videos btw

bojna1 glad you hear it! There is a slight noise on really hard movements but nothing like it was. And not all the time. I’m actually chatting with someone else in another comment thread and they have a similar scooter and were saying they are getting a creak up higher too. We haven’t figured out exactly what it is yet thought.

A Day in the Life of Mr. 23 I have the Apollo pro which is really a zero 10X. Yeah so I guess i’m not crazy thinking that the noise is coming from higher up the stem. Let me know if you get any new info pls. Thanks again!

chefgav1 you do have to use a little force the first few times. I had to sorta pull the bars to get it to lock in but it should fit. It’s meant to be a tight fit to stop the creak. Hope that helps and you get it!

That spacer doesn't work on the 10x i have, you can't put the stem back up. Also the clamp did nothing for the noise. Next is to add some grease.
@ADayintheLifeofMr23

Zero the first time I folded it up with the spacer I really needed to use some force. I think after a few folds it get a little easier. But I do remember needing to push fairly hard. Hope it ended up working out for you! Thanks for the comments!

@@ADayintheLifeofMr23 I even tried removing the bolt and putting on the space and then standing the stem up and reinstalling. The bolt hole is 2mm out so the bolt doesn't fit. It's only aluminium so maybe it's designed to be crushed into area when you bring the stem back up but i didn't want to break anything. I will give it another go with some grease to assist and see what happens.
@ADayintheLifeofMr23
@ADayintheLifeofMr23 4 жыл бұрын
Zero definitely give that a go with some grease. I’m curious to know how that works out for you. I’m sure that’s why the clamp alone didn’t fix the creak. With that spacer you should be set!

A Day in the Life of Mr. 23 well it’s on and yes it’s snug and tight and it still squeaked and I am like WTF and then I though. What about the two bolts above the stem clamp... tightened and BAM no more squeak! Thanks mate for your encouragement to try again. So quite now :)

Ridiculous that it's not shipped with a quality stem clamp. My stem cracked and the shop had to replace it under warranty. Would have been cheaper for them to have just pre-installed the quality clamp. They tried to sell the clamp upgrade, I said nope, if it cracks again, I'll just do another warranty claim. False economies.

I agree. Especially at this price point. You would expect it to have this included. Or at least once they started selling the clamp they should have included it on all future models
