Adding a LED floodlight to the ZERO 8X scooter. All parts from amazon and linked below. I was a little skeptical that the battery wouldn't pack enough punch to make this thing bright enough......needless to say, it does!
Couldn't be happier with the build. Very easy to do, with minimal skill. The hardest part was soldering the wires together, but that isn't super difficult.
Let me know what you guys think of the light! Thanks for watching

Glad to find someone upgrading their headlight system for safer riding at night....I've purchased my Vsett 10+ a couple month's back and noticed on my first night ride at 30 mph with the oem light, this will have to be my first upgrade....the oem headlight is mounted to the front fender and lacks projection (beam is very narrow and shoots out to roughly 15 feet at best in front....I wanted something a lot more than a bike light. Like yourself...I've added some non-traditional lights to my scooter; Nilights 6.5 inch (spot/flood combo) with removable (Wild Man removable 2 liter bag modified to carry switch, battery w/tray, and relay) portable power that uses DeWalt batteries to keep the lights powered during my rides. Great job on your part showing others the how to's and what not to do's....

Thanks so much for the comment. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment. It seems very much so that when designing these scooters they don’t take night riding into consideration. In the fall and winter it’s dark when I get off work, so when I do ride the scooter to work lights are imperative. I used to have to ride a trail home and it wasn’t that well lit. At least now I have streets that are lit but I still like to be as visible to others as possible. Sounds like your set up is really good too! You gotta be able to see what you’re riding over when you get going that fast. Thanks again for watching. Stay safe out there! 🙌🏼

E Scooter Life I agree. Thankfully this wasn’t TOO expensive to upgrade in a DIY form, but the stock lights on here were just for accents or esthetics. But also, the light I compared it to......200 bucks for a headlight?!? I think that’s a little much! There are a few I’ve seen that do have some decent lighting but for the most part it doesn’t seem to be a focal point for the manufactures. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ok so my question is. Sometimes at night I pass some cars driving the opposite direction of me. Will this bright light kind of blind their vision? I have a small led light on my 8x sitting on top of the handle bar facing down towards the floor. But it’s kind of annoying removing it every time I have to fold down my 8x.
@ADayintheLifeofMr23
@ADayintheLifeofMr23 4 жыл бұрын
Em Diaz it doesn’t appear to blind anyone. I haven’t seen it for myself but no one has flashed me or appeared to be upset. The LED light mount that comes with the lights allow it to pivot so you can adjust where the beam shines. I have it angled a little down to avoid your concern. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching.

Ryy Berry there might be.....in a different video I opened up the deck and there’s a 12v regulator in there that would definitely run it. I just don’t know the amperage output on the regulator. It’s just for the leds on the deck and brake lights that come stock, so I don’t know if running the headlight could overload that regulator or not. But there definitely is an option. I also got a case for it so it isn’t just strapped to the stem. Thanks for the comment!

ted tedsen I don’t think that will have enough power to get much done. You can use it to charge your phone though. What I did find out is that in the deck itself there is a 12v regulator for the led lights built in. It’s possibly to tap into that to get enough power for the light. I just didn’t find it till it was already wired up to a battery. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

I’m not too familiar with the wiring on that scooter. But there are a few options on the 8x. An external battery source would be the easiest and that’s what I did in this video. There’s also an option to directly wire it into the main scooter battery but that is much more advanced. DC power is just 2 wires, usually black and red. So you would just need to match the wires from the headlight to the battery. The battery I got came with cables. So I just cut one end off the cable and spliced it into the headlight wires. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

That’s a good questions. I’m not 100% sure but typically those wires would be a data wire or something for a switch. I can’t say for sure but it should be ok to cap it. Maybe check with the seller first...but red and black is all you need for a DC circuit.

Since the light is rated at 12v 60W, that means it needs 5Amps so you could juice up this light straight from the scooter's battery with one of these DC to DC voltage step down converters. The spec on this converter is: Input voltage: DC 16-60V (which is fine for the 52V of scooter and even the new 60V scooters) Output: DC 12V; 5 Amp; 60 W (which is exactly what the light needs) www.amazon.com/SMAKN%C2%AE-Converter-16-60V-Step-down-supply/dp/B00XKLH77K/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=step+down+dc+to+dc+converter+60v+5a&qid=1575446098&sr=8-3 Be careful with the input vs output wires. Several have commented (all the bad reviews) that the unit's wires are wrongly labeled. The label in the product picture is correct but some have gotten the product with label reversed (output marked as input).
@ADayintheLifeofMr23
@ADayintheLifeofMr23 4 жыл бұрын
It does appear that would work. I’m too novice with electricity that I didn’t want to ruin anything on the scooter. Seems like it would be easy enough to access the wires since the throttle switch is right there. If you do it, let me know I’d love to see how you did it! Thanks!
@vripiatbuzoi9188
@vripiatbuzoi9188 4 жыл бұрын
@@ADayintheLifeofMr23 On the other hand that lamp is rated at 5 Amps which seems like a lot of draw for an LED light. As comparison, a desktop computer draws about 1.5 Amps. For how long can your brick battery power that light on? Based on that I can figure out if it's worth connecting the light to the scooter's battery or maybe not worth it if too much range is lost.
@vripiatbuzoi9188
@vripiatbuzoi9188 4 жыл бұрын
@@ADayintheLifeofMr23 I would not power it from the wires going to the throttle because those come out of the controller and you don't know what electronics magic they are doing there (that's beyond my abilities). But I think it would be very safe to bypass all the internal electronics and do a parallel tap straight off the battery wires under the foot board. Falcon PEV does that themselves in a KZbin video where they show how to add an auxiliary battery.
@ADayintheLifeofMr23
@ADayintheLifeofMr23 4 жыл бұрын
Vripiat Buzoi I haven’t had to charge the battery since I got it. Granted I don’t need to use it every day, but right now the battery is at 50% charge. The battery is 8.3 amp hours. So if it does pull all 5 amps it should give you 1.5ish hours of use......if I did that math correctly. But that would last longer than a single charge on the scooter battery. In my range test I estimated about 25 miles of range using both motors in gear 2. 13 miles took me about 45 minutes to ride so 1.5 hours is about all the riding time you would get out of the scooter
